Outstanding!
October 2023 - We were there in early October. The apartment is well equipped, clean and very fresh with large spaces, a fantastic terrace with morning sun and a terrace overlooking the sea on the other side.
There are 95 stairs from the street but it did not bother us at all. It is normal here and good to get rid of all the calories after the delicious dishes enjoyed at the many nice restaurants of Positano.
The host, Giuliana, was very friendly and attentive providing many tips.
We would love to go back to Positano and the Amalfi Coast and stay at Casa Valina again.
Travel tips
- Highly recommend Restaurant Il Fornillo down the stairs.

Charming apartment with an exceptional view
August 2023 - Casa Valina is a comfortable charming apartment very well located. The view from the terrace is exceptional!
It has all the essentials you need from dishwasher, washing machine, hair dryer etc… It could use a few more glasses in the kitchen. It can sleep 4 people as there are 2 single beds put together in each bedroom. One of the bedrooms, the one by the living room has no window to the outside which is too bad, but not super indispensable. The upstairs bedroom is the best with it’s own private little terrace as well.
Over all, a very nice little apartment and the owner, Guliana, and the whole crew that takes care of Casa Valina are very nice and helpful. I would rent it again in the future!
Summer in Italy have been great! Everyone I’ve dealt with have been very helpful and gave very clear directions. They even helped us book a car with a driver to and from Naples to the property. You can ask them anything, and they are always willing to help! They are very accommodating!
Travel tips
- There are lots of steps and some steeper than others, but it’s the same all over the Amalfi Coast, which makes it’s charm.
- I would definitely recommend hiring a porter to help with your luggage, which they offer when renting the place. It’s a 10 euro per luggage very well spent in my opinion!

Breathtaking views of Positano
October 2022 - We had a great stay at Positano. This apartment was unique as it had two balconies with a small private balcony coming off the upstairs bedroom. The kitchen was well appointed and the lounge was very comfortable if you wanted to relax inside. Of course we spent a lot of time on the balcony at the end of the day looking out over Positano and enjoying a wine.
Transport was easy as the local bus stopped at the Grotto and then could catch it up to the top of the hill and then catch a SITA bus to the other towns along the Amalfi Coast.

Thank you for a wonderful stay
August 2022 - The owner Giuliana and her daughter were such gracious hosts. She met us at our parking garage and walked with us to our villa. Her daughter was able to translate English. Giuliana and her daughter told us a lot about Positano and there was a big booklet of suggestions in the living room for us.
The house was clean and large for our family. We cooked dinner in the beautiful kitchen a couple of nights. And enjoyed the view of the town from the kitchen windows and patio. There’s a washer for clothing on the outdoor patio and a line to dry with clothe pins. Giuliana provided beach chairs.
We were close to the restaurants and beaches and shopping. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Summer in Italy was very good. They sent us emails regarding our reservation. They also acted as a liaison when we had questions about parking our car in a nearby parking garage. They were wonderful!
Travel tips
- Lots of steps... some very steep...but that’s typical for Positano.
- There’s a restaurant called Ristorante Mediterraneo which is close by and it was delicious. They offer gluten free options too.
- There’s also a charming little restaurant on the small beach at the bottom of the steps. It had fantastic breakfast and cappuccino with quieter setting than the larger beach.

Everything we needed!
May 2022 - What a find! Our hostess, Giuliana was amazing! The villa had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. She gave us her cell phone number and we could text her with any questions or problems (we had none).
The location is wonderful -- the view sensational! We can't wait to go back.
Summer in Italy was wonderful to work with -- detailed, communicative, and their accommodation was wonderful.
Travel tips
- Be aware that Positano is a vertical city. In other words, if you can't climb hundreds of steps a day (I'm not exaggerating), don't go here. Just to leave the villa and go to the nearest street was 95 steps. We burned off all of our gelato calories. We loved this little town and it was a good place to stay for a week and take day trips from.

Loved staying here
October 2019 - We loved staying here. Everything you need in the kitchen is there.
There are a lot of stairs to climb to get to Casa Valina. You need to be in good shape, if you aren't you will be by the time you leave.
Travel tips
- My husband and his brother walked to the beach each morning to do their swim. They are both competitive swimmers and this was very convenient.

The view from the balcony was breathtaking
September 2019 - This is a beautiful house. We were very comfortable for the week we stayed here. The bathrooms were updated and kitchen had everything we needed. The view from the balcony was breathtaking, so the location is wonderful. There is a bus stop nearby which made getting around very convenient.
Giuliana [the owner] was wonderful to work with. Beautiful house and well cared for, thanks for allowing us to stay at your place. We loved Positano!
Summer In Italy is a great company to work with. Very responsive to any questions I had. I would not hesitate to use them again! I highly recommend!
Travel tips
- Beware... There are a lot of stairs to get to the house, we counted 98. Not an easy climb up and down, they varied in depth and height. Must be in decent shape.
- Pay for a baggage porter to carry your suitcases, owner will arrange for you. There is no way I would have gotten my suitcase up those stairs on my own.

It was beautiful
April 2019 - Casa Valina was beautiful. Very well maintained and well taken care of. The terrace overlooked Positano and the surrounding mountains. Absolutely gorgeous view. It was extremely comfortable and quiet, but in a great location. We parked our car upon arrival and didn't move it until we left. Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, the beach, the ferry, local and regional buses. Lots of steps, but that's just Positano and the the entire Amalfi Coast. You couldn't choose a better location. It's a beautiful property we'd recommend to anyone going to the Amalfi Coast!
Giuliana [the owner] was a fantastic hostess. When the gas ran out early one morning, she was there in 10 minutes to replace it! She showed us through the house upon our arrival, walking us through all the appliances, etc.
The properties represented by Summer In Italy all looked great and we made a great choice.
Travel tips
- You can walk everywhere you need to go within Positano and, by public transportation, to anywhere on the Amalfi Coast or inland to Sorrento.

The view was absolutely beautiful
October 2018 - Casa Valina was very clean, the kitchen and bathrooms modern. We had good Wi-Fi reception. The view was absolutely beautiful. We sat on the terrace whenever we were at the house. We never used the living room. We had been dreading the 95 steps to the house which we had read about however this turned out to not be an issue at all. I do recommend using the porters to carry the luggage. I recycle at home however the recycle program in Positano was very detailed and complicated. In addition, they pick up glass, paper, organic, aluminum each on different days of the week.
I was very satisfied with the services provided by Summer In Italy and have already recommended them to friends.
Travel tips
- We used Amalfi Coast Car Service to drive us from the train station in Naples to Positano. The driver was waiting for us on the platform when we arrived. The cost was Euro 100.00. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and stopped for pictures where there were places to pull off the road.
- We also had a driver and guide for a private half day tour of Pompeii and another day we hired a driver to visit the villages along the Amalfi Coast.
- We had scheduled a boat tour of Capri however the boats were unable to go out due to strong winds the last 2 days of our stay.
- We were in Positano a week and given the outings we planned this was a reasonable amount of time to enjoy our visit.

Enjoyed our stay
September 2018 - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Valina. The location was nice, a bit high up in the town. Lots of steps! But we knew that. The view from the main terrace off the living room was mostly of the opposite side of the town but to the right there was sea view. The view was more expansive from the smaller terrace off the upstairs bedroom. Wi-Fi worked fine. Air conditioning was fine. The kitchen could be a bit better equipped but we managed. All in all a nice stay.
Particularly we liked Mrs. Giuliana, the owner. She was very helpful.
This booking with Summer In Italy went very smoothly. Thank you.

The best view in all of Positano
August 2018 - We're pretty certain we had the best view in all of Positano. There is nothing better than the terrace overlooking that view. Casa Valina is a great location and very well maintained. We stayed 2 weeks and felt like locals, greeting the neighbouring businesses on our daily excursions. Everything was at our doorstep, the bus stop, restaurants, etc. We could have easily spent another week or two and were sad to leave. We hope to return and will gladly stay at Casa Valina again.
Great experience with Summer In Italy and would definitely refer your services and website to others. Thank you!

A fabulous house!
July 2018 - Casa Valina is a fabulous house. Lots of room, good views, and the location works well. Wi-Fi works perfect, which is a must for us as we have to keep in contact with work. We will do back on day and definitely will stay there.
Giuliana, the owner, is very friendly and helpful.
This was the third time we have booked through Summer In Italy. They are very efficient. Will highly recommend them!
Travel tips
- Each day we would walk the road to Positano main beach.
- Stop at Café Positano for coffee and muffuns etc, then stroll past lost great shops.
- Chez Black was great for lunch, also La Zagara, and one on the walk between Positano and Fornillo Beach.
- Il Fornillo great restaurant and we had the most fun cooking class there.
- For transportation from Naples we use Positano Transfer, they are so helpful and reliable.

It was great!
May 2018 - Casa Valina was great. The home was very clean, spacious, charming, and had a fantastic view. It is in a perfect location towards the top of the hill, near to shops and restaurants, one of them being 'Restaurant Next2' which we enjoyed very much. We enjoyed staying at Casa Valina and recommend staying there if 95 steps don't bother you. It certainly didn't bother me. We would definitely stay there again!
Giuliana, the owner, was very warm and helpful. She was available to answer all our questions about where to go and how to get there.
Travel tips
- We spoke to the owner before we arrived and she suggested she to get us a porter to bring our bags up the 95 stairs at a cost of 10 Euro each bag. That was definitely a good idea and we were very impressed with the man (I am sorry, I don't remember his name) who carried our bags 2 at a time - wow!
- Everyday we enjoyed the scenic walk down towards or to the beach. We used the sidewalk rather than the stairs where we got a chance to visit the shops or stop in somewhere for a macchiato.
- Getting back from the beach area, we'd take the bus. We never waited for it more than a few minutes. Of course, if you're game, you can always take the stairs or walk the road up.

Expectations exceeded!
May 2018 - The villa exceeded our expectations. Very clean throughout.
The kitchen was well equipped and very large with a table and four chairs. The terrace overlooking the town also had a table and four chairs as well as a washing machine and clothesline. There are two bedrooms and they had queen size beds. One bedroom with full bathroom off the living room while the other was upstairs with full bathroom and its own terrace at the back.
The manager, Giuliana, was extremely helpful with advice on restaurants and tourist attractions.
There are a number of stairs (95 in total and we counted them) to reach this villa so it is not for those with mobility challenges. It would be a great venue for a family.
Summer in Italy handling of our payments and providing meeting arrangements with the owner eased any anxiety we had about travelling in Italy. The newsletters were very helpful. We found the property listing through VRBO Vacation Rentals By Owner but will definitely use Summer in Italy to search our next Italian destination.
Travel tips
- Take the local SITA bus along the coast. It is very cheap and you get spectacular views as the bus climbs up the cliffs.
- Did day trips to Amalfi and Ravello. There is also a ferry service which costs much more but provides a different perspective of the famous Amalfi coast.
- Lots of hikers enjoy the trails around Positano.
- Favourite restaurant - family owned Saraceno D'Oro very near to Casa Valina.

Very good
August 2017 - Casa Valina is a gem. It's a (newer) constructed, clean and nicely laid out 2 bedroom; especially nice top floor privacy. The top floor bedroom boasts a nice lookout and the living room has an even greater view, as well. It is out of the hub bub and more quiet than if you rent a place lower down. The bus delivers you right to the doorstep (ha, almost!).
There are 3 flights of stairs to climb with the last one being the steepest before landing inside. It's not all that bad but if you have a disability this place is probably not for you. The jaunt down to the beach right below is a nice walk down but a slower walk up! It's an easy walk to Positano "downtown" and there are restaurants very near by the villa and of course, even more below.
We enjoyed our stay. Owner very nice and helpful.
Summer In Italy were excellent, very responsive.
Travel tips
- Bring small vial of dish soap, washing machine soap... Then buy more at local store. The place to get provisions is not too far (10 min walk) and is well stocked with items you'll need (wine, cheese, bread produce, etc).
- Don't forget your coffee grinds for your first cup before getting to a store (no cafe close by).
- Ask the owner the location of the shops for buying necessary supplies as soon as possible.
- We were not dissuaded from using kitchen but it made it difficult to "set-up" upon arriving without having necessary items available.

June 2017 - Fantastic! Loved Casa Valina, would highly recommend it.
Perfect location, lovely home, wonderful owner (Giuliana) who was so helpful.
Positano is incredible. The perfect jumping off spot for the Amalfi Coast.
We will definitely return and use this house again. Spent 2 weeks here in early-mid June and the weather was perfect. You will not be disappointed.
Great tips that you sent; it was all very smooth! Love the newsletter too! Happy to have booked with you!
Travel tips
- Be ready to climb stairs and hills if you plan to stay in Positano!
- It's about 95 steps up to the house, but you will quickly get used to it if you are in even decent shape.
- Bus stop for the local orange bus is right below the house.
- Lots of great restaurants throughout the town.
- Loved Restaurant Saraceno D'Oro, which is right below you when looking down from the balcony.
- For a real treat, try Rada Restaurant down at the Spiaggia Grande and also Restaurant Il Ritrovo in Montepertuso.
- For a really fun day, take the boat with the red fish over to Da Adolfo from the dock at Spiaggia Grande for sun, fun and lunch. Call to make a reservation for both a chair/umbrella and lunch to be sure you get in.
- Get custom made shoes (I got 3 pair!) at Nanà on the main road when walking into town.
- Bought a gorgeous ceramic (actually volcanic stone) hand made, hand painted, custom table Ceramica Casola (they have 2 shops down by Spiaggia Grande right by the main church).
- So much to do and see in Positano and on the Amalfi Coast!!
- Take a boat to Capri, and the SITA bus to Sorrento (it's only EUR 1.80 each way!)
- We took a ferry to Amalfi and went to Ravello.
- Hired a private driver to take us to Pompeii.
- Fantastic vacation!

October 2016 - Casa Valina is fantastic!
The location is perfect and the views are incredible. The house is immaculate and very well kept, everything is either new or just been renovated! It's a very spacious property (about 1600 square feet) and the kitchen is awesome! It's ideal for 2-4 people as you only have one shower but you do have two bathrooms. The AC units are brand new and we did not find a mark on the walls anywhere as they have all been repainted. It's extremely quiet as once you shut the doors and windows the house becomes soundproof as that's how solid it's built!
The owner, Giuliana, is a real gem and sweetheart.
We have been to Positano before and rented different properties there and by far Casa Valina is the BEST! We will be back many times to Casa Valina as we now call it our "Positano Casa".
Ciao...
Travel tips
- Positano has many incredible restaurants. A few of our favorites are: Restaurant Il Fornillo, Restaurant Bruno and Restaurant Caffe Positano.
- L'Incanto is a great beach snack bar for drinks on the Spiaggia Grande beach.
- Positano is extremely easy to get around so you won't have any problems trying to get your "bearings"!
- The boat ferries leave from the main beach which is called Spiaggia Grande of Positano. You can get your schedules there at the boat ferry booths.
- A rental car is not necessary in Positano or for that matter anywhere along the Amalfi Coast as you can get everywhere by boat ferry or bus.
- We would recommend a baggage porter service upon arrival as Casa Valina is roughly 95 steps up from the main road. The service costs 10 euro per bag for a porter but well worth it unless you have a carry on type bag! The owner Giuliana can arrange that service for you.

July 2016 - Casa Valina is ideal for those that are comfortable walking to get to the main areas of the town.
The host is incredibly welcoming and the house has a lots of amenities. We were able to do laundry and cook with ease.
What I loved is that we had a quiet area but there was still enough traffic and restaurants/shopping (there is plenty within a minute's walk). Walk up steps from the street is challenging - so mentally prepare. However, a porter can be reserved (but we found their prices to be high per bag).
Overall, this was our favorite apartment and the views were hard to match.
Travel tips
- Consider reserving a porter for your bags due to the steps.
- Reserve a dinner at Restaurant Al Palazzo for a romantic and high end meal.
- For a great experience, reserve dinner or lunch at Restaurant La Tagliata.

May 2013 - We absolutely LOVED our time at Casa Valina!
The owners were extremely kind, nice, fun, informative, and welcoming.
They made everything so easy for us that we felt right at home.
When we checked out Casa Valina on your web site, I thought "if the place and the views are half as nice as shown on the web site, I would be happy." I'm glad to say they were 100% exactly like on the web site and we soaked in the comfort and beauty every day we were there. Our beautiful surroundings made the trip relaxing and special.
This was the first time we used your services and we have to say, you guys are the best! You answered all our questions in a timely manner. Your e-mails were always positive, cheery, and filled with information. We were so happily surprised by the prompt, efficient service that we have already told many of our friends about you! Thank you very, very much!
Travel tips
- The owners had good tips for us. Ask them for suggestions that go along with your tastes and trust that you will have a good experience.
- Be sure to go to Restaurant Da Adolfo for lunch -- the boat ride there (which is free) is fun and you get to see more of the beauty from the water. Be sure to bring your swim suit to take advantage of the beach there as well.
- Don't worry about the language. We knew just basic greetings and we got along just fine. Everyone is so willing to communicate, someone spoke English everywhere we went, and it was nice to be living in another culture without having to know the language. It was a very enjoyable part of our journey.
- Also, knowing that we had the 95 steps to go up and down each day gave us an excuse to eat even more good food and plenty of gelato!

Your company is so efficient in getting back to its customers and offers clear directions and helpful advice at the time of booking. Because of staff at Summer in Italy we were able to plan so many parts of our trip prior to departure from Canada including the train ride from Rome to Naples, organizing a limo driver to Positano and even dreaming about our stay (the website pictures depicted the property perfectly. Thank you and keep up the great work!!
Travel tips
- You must go on the Amalfi Coast boat excursion. Make sure it is the one with Salvatore the fisherman and make sure you get the meal (you pay for in addition to the excursion but it is so worth it.... you will not be disappointed).
- The SITA bus for excursions to Amalfi, Ravello, Sorrento and Pompei and the Interno Positano (local bus taking you around Positano) were excellent, convenient and worth going on to save the money of limo drivers.
- Make sure you see Ravello and take the convertible bus there from Amalfi (it's part of what you pay when you get the SITA bus).
- Make sure you go to Restaurant La Tagliata in Montepertuso (beside Nocelle). There is a free bus ride, just call the restaurant and they arrange for pick up and taking you back.

September 2012 - Enjoyed the property, the kitchen is lovely, very large and sunny, and so is the terrace.
Casa Valina is nicely and newly appointed/decorated. It's outside of downtown Positano, and a hike to get to Positano proper, but it's quiet and away from the tourist traffic.
The restaurant below has live music and it's wonderful being serenaded in the evenings.
Travel tips
- You must climb 93 steps from the main roadway to the property, we hired a porter to carry our bags up.
- The kitchen is great, no bath tub but we didn't mind.
- It's >500 steps to Fornillo beach, but worth it. We lunched at Restaurant Da Ferdinando at the beach and the food was good. The walkway from that beach to Positano beach is well worth taking and eat at the restaurant along the way. The restaurant by the Fornillo bus stop is good.
- Plan you trips to the market -- it's hundreds of stairs up.: Neighbor cats come in open windows and doors.
- Find the "back way" down the steps to Positano proper, it's quick, but still lots of steps.

July 2012 - Lovely villa! My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Valina, wish we could have stayed longer.
The only drawback was the broken upstairs shower.
We highly recommend Casa Valina and hope to come back soon.
“Thank you very much for giving us this opportunity to explain the bathroom situation at Casa Valina. There are indeed two bathrooms with shower, one downstairs and one upstairs. However, because of technical issues, the shower in the upstairs bathroom does not function. For this very reason the property description reports one full bathroom (downstairs) and one half bathroom (equipped with washbasin and toilet only) upstairs. Future guests please do not be disappointed, and regard this holiday house as having only one bathroom with shower (as advertised): we agree that it would be very nice if both showers could function, however at the moment this is not possible.„
Travel tips
- Thank you for giving us the opportunity to provide further explanation about the upstairs showers. Casa Valina has, as a matter of fact, two bathrooms with shower. However, because of technical problems, only the shower of the downstairs bathroom works. For this very reason in our description we report only one bathroom, downstairs, and one half-bath (equipped with washbasin and toilet only), upstairs. Future guests, please don't be disappointed for the upstairs shower not being functional: it's not being advertised, although we agree that it would be nice if it worked.

May 2011 - We loved Casa Valina!! Owner Giuliana met us upon arrival to let us into the house and show us around. We later met her husband Raffaele who was very nice and helpful (told us where bus stops and supermarket are), checking in on us every other day or so, to see if we needed anything, and he responded quickly! Extra toiletries, kitchen items, etc. On our last day, we had to leave at 8 am, and Raffaele showed up at 7:30 am to help us with our bags and to bring us some little cups of espresso.
The place itself was extremely clean and the views were gorgeous. Previous reviews mention the 95 steps, but these did not bother us one bit. We are fit and in our 30s and looked forward to the exercise!
The coffee maker is American-style and it was easy to buy groceries and coffee in the shop about a 10 minute walk down Via Pasitea and cook breakfast each morning with the perfect view of Positano from window!
The mosquitoes did seem to swarm the terrace more in the mornings, but by evenings (when sun wasn't on the patio) they were gone. We used the washing machine once -- a box of detergent was there already. The TV has no English channels but we didn't watch TV anyway. The kitchen was stocked with essentials like coffee filters, sugar, flour, dishes, wine opener, dish soap, towels, etc.
I was primarily concerned with location, but this house, I think, is situated perfectly. It is directly above and then only a few minutes walk away from such lovely restaurants as Il Fornillo, Saraceno d'Oro and Mediterraneo. It was maybe a 15-20 minute walk down into the center of Positano, but I am glad we didn't stay down there... it was quite crowded and touristy! I much preferred the quietness of the Fornillo area, with the option to walk into town when we wanted! There is also a direct staircase down to the center, starting just west of Da Vincenzo, I believe... about 360 stairs down. The other option is walking the winding Via Pasitea down to the center. Closest SITA bus stop (Chiesa Nuova) was several hundred stairs directly up from Saraceno d'Oro, and easy to find.
Summer In Italy was extremely helpful in booking this accommodation every step of the way! They were quick to answer my questions via email, and about a month before our trip, let me know that the Wifi (which was advertised and an important reason we chose Casa Valina) wasn't working and suggested other properties. We ended up sticking with Casa Valina because an internet key was available for us to use (and worked perfectly!) but I really appreciated that Summer In Italy let me know first, well in advance, and gave me other options. Also, when I walked into Casa Valina, it was exactly as pictured and described on the website! I would love to return to Italy and hopefully Casa Valina one day, and would definitely use Summer In Italy again.
Travel tips
- The internal bus is located pretty much right at the bottom of the 95 steps up to Casa Valina, but I can't advise much on it as we didn't use it.
- The Chiesa Nuova SITA bus stop is several hundred steps directly above Restaurant Saraceno d'Oro. It is easy to find and use. (The other SITA bus stop in Positano is Sponda, and is located over near the Hotel Marincanto and Le Sirenuse.)
- Fornillo Beach was directly downstairs from Valina, about 450 steps down and not bad at all. Two chairs plus towels were 10 euro and a lovely way to spend a morning.
- I think the Fornillo side has some of the best restaurants!! If you were to start on the Via Pasitea, at the base of the 95 steps up to Valina, and walk the street towards the center of town, you'd see, in this order: Il Fornillo, Saraceno d'Oro, Mediterraneo, da Vincenzo, and Caffe Positano, the farthest being about a 10 minute walk down the street. We ate at each of these! Il Fornillo has a beautiful patio and view and Da Vincenzo seems good for special occasions.
- Positano is an absolutely magical place! Don't overschedule yourself... make sure you have some time to wander around this fabulous town and explore, eat, beach, shop...
