Laureana Cilento
The little town of Laureana Cilento is part of the Cilento National Park, overlooking the most fascinating tourist attractions of the Cilento coast, such as Agropoli, Castellabate and Paestum.
The name Laureana derives from "laure", the old dormitory-cells of the precious monks that offered all their material and spiritual assistance to the locals in ancient times.
Thanks to the particular geographical position, Laureana Cilento is just perfect for everybody wants to take a break from the hot bathing resorts of the coast, seeking wellness and salubrity in the very heart of Cilento.
Nature and trekking lovers will enjoy lovely naturalistic trails, itineraries and paths provided with fully equipped rest stops.
The trails are always easy to find, but you must verify their practicability addressing to the local tourist information offices: Pro-Loco, Comunità Montana or Comune,
The paths are never far from inhabited areas, so we strongly suggest to try some of the high quality local products at least in one of these areas. You must taste some extra virgin olive oil, white fig of Cilento, wines and liqueurs, cheeses and salamis; genuine products and typical dishes handed down generation by generation.
Once in Laureana you should visit the splendid Chapel of Annunziata (1328), the beautiful Parish Church of St Maria del Paradiso (1520), the Church and Convent of St Michele Arcangelo (1619), the stunning Sanctuary of Holy Water, located downstream, whose lacunar ceiling dates back to 1600. Within the Sanctuary you'll find a marble well built in 1652, from where to draw some "miraculous water". Not to be missed, the mansion convent of St Francesco, founded in 1417.
Laureana Cilento is reachable by car through the highway Salerno-Reggio Calabria, exit Battipaglia, following the national road SS18 towards Agropoli, exit Prignano Cilento and go to Laureana Cilento.
