August 2019 - Villa Renata was extremely clean, spacious and with a lovely terrace where we ate our meals. We loved cooking at home with fresh local produce and fish from the monger just down the road.
Highly recommended, we would return at any time!
Travel tips
- The supermarket is nearby, and has all you need.

September 2018 - What a wonderful nine nights we spent at Villa Renata. We lived outside on the beautiful terrace, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The hosts are delightful, generous and very welcoming from time to time delivering fresh fruit from their garden as well as a bottle of their own lovely wine.
The villa was as described on the website, very clean and had everything you need. It had a lovely feel to it, very Italian which is exactly what we wanted.
You will need a car and the parking is very good. We did walk a couple of mornings down to the charming village but I wouldn't like to try that in the heat of the afternoon. It did help justify the pastries every morning tho!
Do learn to use the Italian coffee maker it was wonderful.
We are the biggest Fan's of Summer in Italy. Its at least 5 years ago I found this website and subscribed to your newsletters. I made contact a couple of years ago as we thought we may be coming over but our plans were derailed. Never the less Luca kept in touch and when it came time to book I sent the most bizarre wish list which Luca fulfilled: in fact he exceeded what was on my list. As we encountered travel disruptions along the way an email to Luca and the problems were solved. We have never, in all our travels, encountered such exceptional service. We would not dream of booking with any other company. Summer in Italy is the absolute best. Well done Luca and your brilliant team.
Travel tips
- You need a car.
- If you are looking for free internet it's at the first pizza place you come to once you have parked in the parking lot and the coffee is very good there, just 1.20 euros!
- The big deli in the middle of the village is heaven for foodies.
- Beautiful pastries from the cart in the main street.
- Relax - enjoy the view and the sunshine there is no point in being in a rush to do anything.

Very good
June 2018 - We love relaxing on the terrace of Villa Renata, with the amazing view.
We prepared most of our meals at the villa. The gas stove top works like a charm (did not use oven). The outdoor shower is our favorite feature (after the terrace and view).
Franco and Angela are gracious hosts.
We booked with you because we have had such positive experiences with you before. Your customer service is excellent. You have responded to and acted on our suggestions in the past. As I said before, we wish you had apartments everywhere we travel!
Travel tips
- We ate at Restaurant Colleverde one evening: would not suggest it to others. Da Nello, just off the Corso in town was very good.
- Order sfogliatelle from Angolo Dolce (it's on the highway coming into Santa Maria) -- incredible!
- Shopping is convenient -- a couple of grocery stores down the hill from villa, and we enjoyed visiting Anna at Il Frutteto (frutta e verdura), also nearby, as well as the Corso in town.

October 2017 - Excellent location, owners were very helpful. A very good quiet week away from it all. The location is very good. We had a car, and you need a car as the steep hill is hard work in the heat.
Accommodation was made ready for us before the allotted time. When we did have an issue the owners were quick to try and resolve.
Travel tips
- Should have spent longer exploring Castellabate on the hill.
- Pompei about 1.5 hours away, worth a visit.

October 2016 - My husband and I had a great time at Villa Renata. Very impressive views and wonderful and hospitable owners.
This is the third time we booked with Summer in Italy and it is a pleasure doing business with them. It is a wonderful website. It is easy to navigate and everything is always done on time. Keep up the good work.
Travel tips
- We stayed 7 days in Cilento National Park. I think 5 days is enough to visit the sites. This comment only includes the Cilento Park Area and not other attractions like Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and surrounding areas.

August 2015 - We had a lovely week, the top floor of the villa is much larger and more airy than it appears in the photos so we were very pleasantly surprised on arrival.
The kitchen is basic, living room small but we spent all our time on the lovely large balcony admiring the view so that didn't matter.
The owners were friendly but discreet and made us feel welcome. The apartment really is self-contained and feels quite private. The family gave us a couple of bottles of their own wine, some enormous lemons, gorgeous figs from the tree by the front door, and a delicious home-made pizza!
Came across you by chance looking for a late deal. Very happy with the service, thanks.
Travel tips
- Unfortunately we damaged our car driving into the driveway, as the installation of the electronic gate had necessitated the creation of a mound because the entrance is on such a steep road. Difficult to explain, but I recommend you enter the driveway with caution, especially if arriving at dusk as we did! We ended up getting out of the car each time we crossed the threshold - no big deal, just a precaution.

July 2011 - Angela and Franco are generous, gracious hosts. They shared fruit from their trees, wine from their vines, and even a homemade pizza from their brick oven.
We appreciated the tankless water heater, and love the outdoor shower stall.
We were blessed with perfect weather the entire time, and spent many hours on the terrace -- eating all our meals, reading, sunbathing, and playing cards -- enjoying the breeze.
Travel tips
- Great pastries at the Angolo Dolce (just before you get to Santa Maria)
- Bread (including integrale), prosciutto, mortadella, mozzarella, and pecorino with pistacchi from Bufalina on the Corso.

June 2010 - We couldn't have been happier with Villa Renata. From the warm welcome we received from Angela and Franco [the owners], and their generosity -- sharing their figs, rughetta, and homemade wine -- to the amazing views from the terrace, we couldn't have asked for more.
The views in person were exactly (or better) than the pictures on the website.
This was one of the few quiet places we've experienced in Italy; we were able to sleep without the incessant motorini and siren noises of the cities.
We much preferred to bask on the terrace at Villa Renata rather than on the beach in Santa Maria di Castellabate. We loved the private outdoor shower -- hot water and fresh air!
We can't wait to go back.
We have been very happy with our experience with Summer in Italy. Friends of ours rented one of your properties last summer (in Perdifumo) and were happy, so we decided to give you a try. We have found your website to be excellent. We sent a couple of questions via email and those were also answered promptly. We will definitely use you again.
Travel tips
- We walked to town and along the lungomare most days -- you can get a good 45 minute walk making that circuit.
- The Conad super market very close by was ok for milk and supplies, but we liked to shop the main street in town (Corso Matarazzo). Try the prosciutto and mortadella from Bufalina
- there are also two frutta verdure places [fruit and vegetables] that were both good.
- We drove up to Castellabate and walked the town one morning. Another day we went to Velia to the Greek/Roman ruins, which was not on par with Paestum, but was interesting and we were back by lunch time.

Villa is set in a very peaceful area.
Received excellent help and advice from the owners, could not have been more helpful.
I am very happy with the service that I have received from you! Thank you.

August 2009 - My Family and I enjoyed Villa Renata.
The owners are warm and hospitable people, and helpful and supportive to their guests. They even had 2 liters of cold water in the fridge plus freshly picked prunes waiting for us.
I think your website is excellent, and your taff especially Luca and Valentina were amazing. Thank you very much for everything.
I definitely will stay in Villa Renata again in the future when I visit Santa Maria. The owners really care about their guests, without being in their face all the time.
Thank you Angela, Francesco and Laura. May God bless you and your family.
Travel tips
- Be sure to have your own car to travel around in... unless walking regularly uphill is a personal specific holiday requirement!
- Day trips to the nearby World Heritage sites like the Pompeii Excavations, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast are a must... as is a day tour of Santa Maria!

August 2008 - We have had a wonderful holiday at Villa Renata. The outside terrace was fantastic for relaxing and dining al fresco with fabulous views and wonderful sunsets.
Angela and Franco (the owners) are lovely and gave us fresh figs from their tree and have even given us some dried ones for Christmas. They were very eager to please and gave us a lovely welcome. Their family were very welcoming as well and couldn't be more helpful when trying to find out where the best places to eat and visit were located.
The location is quiet and a short drive from the beach. I would recommend this place as the resort is great for families with a wonderful "passeggiata" in the evenings.
We were concerned that the kitchen would not be adequate from the previous testimonials as we are keen cooks but we took our "Naples at Table" cookbook and were able to make everything we wanted to.
Luca many thanks for the smooth running of the booking it all worked like clockwork. A good all round experience and I would recommend you. I found you by accident when on another Internet site.

July 2008 - Villa Renata is a fantastic place. We enjoyed it so much.
The owners, Angela and Francesco, are very friendly and generous. Every now and then they came around with wine, fruit and eggs. Most importantly without being nosy in any way. That was what I feared mostly when I read the owners lived downstairs. No need to fear that.
Villa Renata is highly recommended. We will gladly return.

April 2007 - We had a wonderful holiday at Villa Renata, and I can't recommend it too highly.
Angela and Franco [the owners] and their family were delightful and very welcoming, and that made things so much more pleasurable.
The location is great - near to the town, shops and beach, but away from the bustle, peaceful and with lovely views.
The kitchen and living room are average, but that doesn't matter too much, as you'll want to spend most of the time on the terrace. Bathrooms were particularly good.
Excellent service, many thanks.

October 2006 - Villa Renata was a beautiful spot with ample room for 4 single women touring about.
It was spotless, with 2 bathrooms (always important). When we first saw pictures of this villa, all I could see was tacky linoleum floors throughout, but the floors were all tiled and quite nice.
The owners lived in a house right below us and were very quiet, though thrilled that we were there and appreciated any communication we attempted with them. An Italian translation book came in handy. The homemade bottle of wine was a welcoming touch, and was excellent.
The deck was huge and the view of the gulf of Salerno was amazing. On Sunday morning we awoke to the sound of cannon shots from the top of Castellabate. We found that a bit unusual, then Sunday at dusk there was a spectacular fireworks display set from the same site. Some welcome, or that's how we chose to interpret this anyway.
A lot of our touring took us back up towards Salerno, to Pompei , Amalfi Coast, etc. It seemed like this was a bit of a journey, taking about an hour to get to Salerno, but when we were on our way home again, we were always happy.
We didn't spend much time touring the local area (we were just there for 6 nights in total so we connect with our flight back to Canada from Rome) . That is the only regret that I have.
We booked 2 villas with you, Villa Renata and Casa Rutilia. At first we were pretty skeptical and certainly uneasy about booking something this big on the internet. It was really just a lucky find while playing around on the computer, that made us open your website. The pictures of the different villas and the huge amounts of information on each villa helped to narrow down our search. In the end we had decided on 2 villas, and it was you who suggested these 2 instead. I still get emotional when I think of Casa Rutilia -- I'd go back there in a minute -- even with the roosters and peacocks as our alarm clocks, it was nothing less then outstanding. Summer in Italy was prompt to respond to questions, and this helped to calm our fears. I've already recommended you to one of my workmates. The best thing about booking through you and staying in villas in general, is the cost was so reasonable, and with the ability to prepare our own meals, we were able to save a lot of money, to be spent on other adventures, such as an amazing balloon flight with Robert Etherington over the Crete Senesi, from Montisi. Thanks very much for making our tour of Italy outstanding!!
“Oh yes! Villa Renata has decorated tiled floors -- that's not linoleum! :-) Thank you so much for your very kind words!„

April 2006 - We stayed at Villa Renata at the end of March 2006. The weather was perfect and Villa Renata was even better than that.
Besides the breathtaking view, we had great fun interacting with the very generous owners, Angela and Franco. We felt more like part of the family than strangers renting a house.
Villa Renata was better than we imagined and Santa Maria di Castellabate is a great location.
This is our second time renting through Summerinitaly and they deliver what they describe on their web site.

September 2005 - Excellent! We had an extremely good holiday there. The view from the terrace was excellent and we have many wonderful memories and also marvellous pictures of the glorious sunsets.
It was wonderful to wake up every morning in the main bedroom with the view in one direction of the surrounding hills and in the other the view of the sea. Out of this world!!
Franco and Angelina [the owners] were very welcoming and generous with their many gifts. They kept us supplied with fresh fruit, brought us up some homemade pizza and pasta on another occasion together with wine. Marvellous!
We will certainly come to Villa Renata when we next come to Italy. Thank you for a very enjoyable time.

August 2005 - Villa Renata was in a superb location, the views from the terrace were lovely. It was the ideal place to stay for complete quiet and relaxation.
We found the property very clean and in good order. The owners were very helpful and friendly.
The walk down to the beach took approx 20 mins but the return walk could take longer as the road up to the villa is exstremely steep. However parking ajacent to beach was no problem.
We will definitely book again with Summer In Italy all the staff were very helpful and quick to reply to any queries we had... thank you.

August 2005 - The welcome and friendliness of the owners of Villa Renata was wonderful. We enjoyed the fruit and eggs.
It was so lovely to just sit and relax on the terrace and look out on the olive and lemon groves and in the evening watch the sun set over Capri!
It was also a great base to explore the local scenery. The local beaches were clean and, despite it being August, there was plenty of room. The restaurants in Santa Maria were mixed but we found a delightful pizza & fish restaurant overlooking the square in San Marco.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Villa Renata. We still miss being able to shower outdoors under the stars, with the scent of fresh rosemary and olive trees!
For the more adventurous - it's not too long a drive to explore the Amalfi Coast (as we did twice!) and Naples (but make sure you always drive with your doors locked) for Pompeii and Vesuvio.
We were extremely impressed with the service Summer in Italy provided. The booking arrangements were both clear and provided lots of useful information. Thank you.
The website was also very informative and helpful. The photos of Villa Renata did not do it justice, it was even better than we could have imagined. When we return to this area we will certainly book with you again.

July 2005 - Our family of four loved staying at Villa Renata - the house is very nicely situated and is a classic modern Italian home.
The owners made us feel very welcome and would occasionally send up some fresh fruit or eggs from their property.
There are great beaches nearby as well as some great historical sites. We recommend a trip to nearby Acciaroli for a stroll and a meal.
All in all, we had a very relaxing holiday.

June 2005 - It was lovely, we couldn't have chosen a nicer place for our holiday. If only we could have stayed for another week.
Everything was far better than we imagined. Angela and Franco, the owners were delightful. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they made us feel so welcome.
The views from the terrace were stunning. The outside shower was so useful, especially for the children. There was plenty of outside furniture and always plenty of hot water.
I don't think the pictures of the interior of Villa Renata did justice to it. It was a lot bigger and better than we imagined.
We would certainly book with you again, it was nice having all the contact via email with you before we went. Thank you again for a superb holiday.

May 2005 - We loved the accommodation at Villa Renata.
All rooms led on to the balcony/terrace which was huge and we had wonderful views of the sea and to the left of the old town of Castellabate
The owner Angelina and Francesco Paolo made our stay. They were so welcoming calling in with fresh fruits and eggs and could not have been more helpful.
