July 2024 - Excellent stay at Villa Raggio di Sole. The setting is very beautiful in the middle of the greenery. The house is spacious and decorated with charm.
The property manager Ivan is very warm and helpful with suggestions on the surroundings.
In short, at the top, I highly recommend.

Beautiful and homely
July 2023 - Villa Raggio di Sole was beautiful and homely, though we did miss the air conditioning.
Our hosts were kind and generous, greeting us with home made limoncello, pastries and plums picked from their garden.
I was very happy with the service from Summer In Italy. Every email I sent was replied to quickly. I felt nothing was a problem no matter how trivial or small my question was. I am already recommending to others and will certainly use Summer In Italy again for our next Italian escape.

Wonderful and private
April 2023 - Villa Raggio di Sole is a really nice place to stay. The lack of a view was not a problem as the gardens are wonderful and private.
The owners are lovely, very welcoming and helpful. It felt like a home from home.
We would definitely stay here again when we next visit Italy.

August 2022 - It was great! The owners are lovely and the house itself is fantastic with original Italian furniture, so it feels like you're staying with a family rather than a characterless holiday home.
Travel tips
- Nearby Monticchio has everything you need food wise.
- Best restaurants included Villa Caprile, just outside Sant'Agata and De Michele in Marina del Lobra in Massa.

September 2019 - We really enjoyed our stay, and would like you to pass on our thanks, once again, for the help the owner and his wife gave us when we first arrived, and for their help during our stay.
Excellent service, thank you very much.
Travel tips
- Our little Fiat Punto could not manage the steep hill that leads to the house when we arrived, and so we really should have had a more powerful car, as well as a small one.

August 2019 - Good villa for a family with extensive gardens and useful small pool.
Generally well equipped although a few curious omissions - no kettle or toaster or bread knife. The latter was quickly rectified by the charming caretaker.
Pity the view is obscured by trees - it would be worth twice as much in these parts with the sea view.
Everything worked to plan. Your e-mail reminders and updates were very useful.
Travel tips
- Not easy to find at first. The final small road is very steep and narrow in places although with a good metalled surface. Keep your nerve and it will be OK. We managed fine.
- Grocery shops are someway distant - either in Sorrento or Santa'Agata (nearer).

July 2019 - Friendly, helpful owners. Comfortable, private and spacious for four. Authentic Italian features and facilities. Very much enjoyed our stay and the hospitality.
We have appreciated the supportive and helpful communications of Summer In Italy - thank you.
Travel tips
- Be prepared for the narrow and steep lane to the villa - be fully insured if driving.
- Check out bus timetables, reasonable access to Massa Lubrense and Sorrento.
- Vesuvius a highlight and rubber motor boat hire from Marina della Lobra (or Sorrento).
- Good local grocers, larger one at Sant'Agata.

July 2018 - We are a family of 5 and we had a fantastic week's holiday at Villa Raggio di Sole. It is in a very peaceful residential area, the garden is a beautiful lemon grove, the pool is absolutely ideal for dipping in and cooling down, the children thoroughly enjoyed it.
There are plenty of towels and lots of crockery and glass ware. The barbecue and large outdoor dining area were well used.
We made day trips to Pompeii and Vesuvius, and a boat trip around Capri.
The manager is friendly and helpful.
We would really like to go back but are unsure as to whether the children will be quite so happy bed sharing next year.
Booking was completely hassle-free and all questions were answered promptly. A thoroughly pleasurable experience.
Travel tips
- The road up to Villa Raggio di Sole is VERY NARROW and STEEP. We had read the reviews but had not appreciated how narrow and steep until we arrived. We had a Citroen C3 Picasso for a family of 5, pulling the wing mirrors in we were fine, but nothing bigger!!
- It is a beautiful very 'lived in' Italian villa. Our youngest child is 5 and was fine, but it would not be suitable for a toddler as there are ornaments etc around.
- There are shops and restaurants reasonably close-by but not really suitable to walk to with young children due to the lack of pavements but with a hire car or public transport no problem.

May 2017 - We very much enjoyed our time at Villa Raggio di Sole.
On the whole it was in a nice quiet spot and easily accessible to the surrounding places of interest.
Travel tips
- You would be well advised to print off the places of interest sheets from the website before you go as there is no information at the Villino and the local tourist office in Massa Lubrense is not much help.
- Note that you need to get a parking card to park in most places - from the TI, tabac etc.
- Also go armed with bite prevention/treatment cream as after a few days you will find you will get bitten!

August 2016 - The villa itself was lovely, although getting to it takes a little getting used to, we had expected this in advance.
Pool very nice - only comment is that the area around the pool is densely vegetated with a lot of colourful flowers and fruit - this does mean a lot of insects.
Bring a small car as you can get, and lots of insect repellent.

March 2016 - Lovely setting, spacious for 4, very clean accommodation.
However would have preferred more seats in sitting room area. Kitchen was well laid out and equipped however the oven was not working and no alternative available.
Apart from the weather we enjoyed our stay very much and were impressed with the quality of the accommodation. We would love to come back when the rain stops!!!
The welcome from the owner and his wife and their support was lovely.
“A working oven is on its way, thanks for pointing it out! Just one bit of advice, in general: no matter how small or large the inconvenience is, please do take advantage of our 24-hour-a-day/7-day-a-week help line. Let us know with a phone call or an email, and we will sort it out while you enjoy your vacation!„
Travel tips
- Have a very small car because the lane to the villa is very narrow and nerves of steel until you get used to driving Italian style.
- Local green grocer in Massa Lubrense highly recommended as is the local wine.

September 2015 - Lovely villa, owner very pleasant and helpful.
However unfortunately the road leading to the villa is an absolute nightmare if you have a large car and the trip back up to the villa and parking the car each day caused a considerable amount of stress until we changed our car to get a small one.
All our dealings with summer in Italy were great.
Travel tips
- Get a very very small car.

July 2015 - We had a lovely time staying in such an interesting property.
The road up was extremely narrow but apart from that everything was lovely, especially the garden. The new pool was an unexpected pleasure. The best thing about the garden was the scent of flowers and lemon trees as evening drew on.
The owners were very helpful.
I would definitely choose Summer in Italy if we ever return to Italy because the service you provide is better than any we have previously experienced. This was especially the case in terms of being kept informed.
Travel tips
- You need a small car to manage the road easily.
- The Sita bus service into Sorrento was very good.
- There was a brilliant shop selling local fruit and veg within walking distance.
- The nearby pizza restaurant sold the best pizzas we had ever tasted and was recommended by the owners.

July 2015 - Villa Raggio di Sole was lovely, spacious, well maintained, very clean.
The owners, Raphael and Maria are extremely friendly and helpful.
You did recommend people to have a small car to access the property and you were right to do so as the path to access the house is very narrow.
We had a very nice stay and if we spend our holidays in Italy in the near future, we will most certainly use your services.

September 2014 - Villa Raggio di Sole is a gem. Better than the website picture suggests, very comfortable for a family stay. It is a real home, full of the things people collect over the years, and I admire the way the owners leave these things for their guests to enjoy.
We seemed to have a resident cat, a visiting dog, plus birds and rabbits, cherry tomatoes, a barbecue, a lovely terrace.
Raffaele the owner was most gracious as was his wife who brought us a cake. We had several nice conversations with them. We had an espresso machine with us and bought bread, cheese and prosciutto most days.
We didn't want to leave, next time the stay will be longer.
We found your team very friendly, helpful and efficient. Grazie. I think your website was recommended by a friend who had used it. I liked the idea that you operate in a specific region which you live in and know well. Also your site is easy to use. When we are visiting Italia again I will be in touch.
Travel tips
- It is best to have a car when holidaying in this area. We did use the train to Pompei but even then the car was useful for getting to Sorrento station.
- Staying in the Massa Lubrense area means it is relatively easy to reach the spectacular Amalfi coast by road (we drove the coast twice).
- Nearer to Villa Raggio di Sole are some interesting towns in the hills, very Italian, very few tourists.
- At Massa Lubrense township we went twice to a great restaurant near the Piazza, I think I have forgotten the name, it has flaming torches at its entry. The staff were good with our children and appreciative of our attempts at speaking Italian, and the food 'molto buono'.
- We had a Renault Espace and believe me when I say the drive to the villa is very very tight. A smaller car would be preferable and this is what the locals drive.
- We had been to the Sorrentine Peninsula before and this time really enjoyed being away from the crowds in Sorrento but still close enough to be able to visit it. This is a great base for a visit.

July 2014 - My first thought was was how pretty it was, the garden and all the flowers.
The inside was just like in the pictures on your website all the rooms were nice and we felt at home.
My 2 girls spent lots of time in the garden and liked the playing with the cat that was there.
The road up to the villa is quite tight i drove a Ford Focus and had just enough space (about 1 cm per each side).
Overall our holiday was great and we would stay there again. The owners were very nice when we arrived we found a bottle of limoncello and a cake waiting, and most days they brought us vegetables from their own garden.
Would use summer in Italy again from my first experience with you, we got just what you advertised.

December 2013 - Good value for money. Absolutely lovely owners made it a treat for us. Mr Raffaello and his wife are delightful caring people. There was a fresh home made cake when we arrived and Raffaello lit the wood stove for us before we got home. Their son Antonino was also attentive and prompt in dealing with the heating and hot water.
The warning on car access needs to be stressed more. The driveway is extremely narrow and steep, so is really only suitable for a small car. A Renault Espace has trouble and is impossible for an inexperienced driver or in wet weather. It is only a short walk so a bigger car can be left at the bottom of the drive. The view back to Capri and Naples makes the walk worthwhile.
The local bus service is excellent. The fermata (stop) is at the bottom of the drive and connects directly with the train to Pompeii and Napoli. Villa Raggio di Sole has the advantage of being in a quiet rural setting but has very good public transport so you don't need to use the car that much. There is a good small supermarket, fish and vegetable shop in Massa Lubrense.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Maybe we were lucky but the weather in early december was mostly very good and there were hardly any other people! This made the drive to Ravello and back very easy. Summer would not be so good I think.

October 2013 - Lovely house a real home from home. You can tell it is a well loved holiday home. And the house cat is lovely as long as you can keep it off the table!
Great in the autumn and cooler nights to have a lounge with sofa to rest on. Iron, hair dryer lots of useful bits around even candles for the power cut.
Lots of different outside sitting areas, just tend to loose sun a little at this time of year.
Wonderful views just down the road. Lovely walk down into Sorrento through the olive groves.
Really enjoyed our stay.
Caretaker spoke a little English and was helpful.
It's a lovely place to stay a little bit of work on the kitchen and it would be even better.
Road is narrow need to emphasise must NOT get a big car.

October 2013 - Villa Raggio di Sole is basic but very cosy. Yes we enjoyed it. Excellent base for exploring the Sorrento peninsula. Kitchen could be better equipped - cooker a bit too ropy.
It took us a day to discover where the cutlery is kept in the kitchen! In a drawer in the table, but drawers were hidden by a table cover.
It seemed fair value for the price, as far as I can tell. The description and photos on the website are fine, a honest representation of the property.

August 2012 - We loved Villa Raggio di Sole.
Garden and pool couldn't really be improved upon.
We hired a Fiat unto 1.2 which - with 4 passengers and luggage - simply wasn't able to get up the lane. No problem with a diesel-powered Fiesta though. You can park pretty safely at the bottom of the lane.
Lack of sea view no problem - you only have to walk a few yards down the lane to see the Bay of Naples and Capri.
Raffaele and Maria [the owners] could not have been more charming, welcoming and helpful.
Travel tips
- Local trains good toward Naples.
- Frequent boats almost anywhere you want to go.
- Children of EU citizenship 18 or under frequently get in free to local attractions.
- In Massa, recommend Il Cantuccio restaurant - not cheap but food, service and surroundings all excellent.
- Angelo's in Marina Della Lobra good for a snack.
- Bar Di Sarno good in Massa - frequented by locals.
- Don't be frightened of driving to Amalfi. It's no problem - get there before 10 and you have a good chance of parking by the harbour (3€ per hour but worth it).
- Don't miss a day in Paestum.
