Highly recommended!
June 2023 - This house was absolutely beautiful! It has a beautiful American style kitchen overlooking the balcony and the ocean. The view is incredible. The house is spacious and it accommodated our family of six no problem.
The house is one of the first houses on the way into Praiano from Positano so you are on the outskirts of town. Very quiet. A short walk to downtown (5 minutes or so). The views from this house are much more impressive than the views I saw in some houses in the center of town.
I would highly recommend the house if you want peace and quiet. If you want to be right in the town then it is probably not for you, although, if you have a car it is much easier to park on the street in this area than in the center of town.
Overall, I highly recommend it.

Loved the beautiful views of the water and coast from our terrace every morning and evening
October 2022 - Villa Lorena was a great stay for us in this stunningly beautiful part of the world. We loved the beautiful views of the water and coast from our terrace every morning and evening. A perfect place to sip coffee or have a drink as you watch the sunrise or sunset and mesmerizing blue water.
The villa has all you would need, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, dishwasher and clothes washing machine, and plenty of space with three bedrooms. The second bathroom could be improved with better lighting and shower, but these are minor things. The villa was also generally very peaceful, with no car traffic noise as you are down from the main road. There is a family living in the house above, so at times we could hear the footsteps and movements of the people above. However, this occurred during regular hours and ended at normal bedtime, so did not detract from our enjoyment or rest.
Peppino the manager was also very prompt in responding to texts or calls about issues, so that was appreciated.
We would definitely book properties with Summer In Italy again.
Travel tips
- The villa is well situated with a short scenic walk into Praiano which is a great town that does not have the tourist crowds.
- There is also a bus stop (known as #4) close by which was handy for bus transport.
- We did not have a car and went to Amalfi town, Ravello and Positano by bus. I was surprised at how crowded they could be given we were there in mid October. There doesn’t seem to be a low season in Italy anymore.
- Locals are remarkably friendly despite it all. However, expect to wait, line up, or stand on the bus at peak times returning to the villa as Praiano is in the middle of the coast. Just take the experience in stride as the bus rides themselves can be entertaining for the people you meet and the amazing experience of big buses navigating such narrow and curvy roads, with the ever present crazy motorbike trying to pass at the same time.
- We had only days of sunshine, beautiful sights, great food and friendly locals. Except for the one lady running the lemon products shop in Positano who didn’t seem to appreciate people only buying her great lemon candies. Even she was local color.
- Try and swim in the local coves if you can and remember that walking back up helps to combat all the gelato and pastries.
- Do the Path of the Gods hike if you can from Praiano and stop at the beautiful monastery with the frescoes high above Praiano for a nice break before reaching the summit of the path. It took me 1.5 hours (with short breaks!) to do the uphill first portion and another 1.5 hours on the flatter part to reach Nocelle, the town above Positano. If you do a lot of walking, are in reasonable shape and don’t fear heights, you should be fine. Just watch out for dangerous selfies on the edges.

August 2022 - The location was very good with wonderful views. There are 64 steps down to the house so keep that in mind when booking. The house itself was beautifully decorated , great AC and comfy beds. The kitchen was big and the balcony a nice place to hang out. Overall a very nice stay.

A wonderful stay
May 2022 - We had a wonderful stay at Villa Lorena! Peppino greeted us upon our arrival and was extremely helpful with assisting us in arranging a boat tour to Capri and was an excellent host.
The Villa is very nice and the view is absolutely amazing.
Travel tips
- Must visit Ravello and Positano and One Fire Beach!
- While the Villa is only .06 miles from town, the walk to town is along a narrow road so be prepared! Also, the steps down/up from the house are quite steep.
- Parking anywhere along the Amalfi Coast is almost impossible.

August 2019 - This was a fabulous vacation. Villa Lorena offers one of the most awesome views ever and we spent hours on the terrace just enjoying the scenery.
Praiano's location is great and has the feel of an authentic village, not the busy touristic place. There is a marvelous wine bar in the village that offers simple but exquisite food as well as delicious local wines.
We loved every moment of our vacation. Trips to Ravello, Positano, Pompeii are best done by bus if you are not brave enough to rent a scooter. No need for a car. And then there is the boat ride to Capri... unbeatable.
Travel tips
- Be aware of bugs! They are so small we called them the stealth mosquitoes, but needed a lot of spray, lemons and basil to fend them off.
- We actually enjoyed the 300 or so steps to the beach. It makes for a good workout and a good excuse to drink wine without feeling guilty about the calories.

May 2019 - We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Villa Lorena. The villa has a lovely position despite the 70 steps to get to it!!!
It is well furnished in tasteful colours and eating outdoors on the terrace was fabulous.
Luigi, the property manager, was excellent. He dealt with our questions and queries with good grace and humour and came one evening at 10 pm as we had turned off the hot water switch by mistake. Despite the fact we had probably interrupted his evening he did all this in good humour.
Travel tips
- If you have a car DO make sure you arrange for parking with Luigi beforehand (via Summer in Italy) as there is NO parking at the villa and the roads are twisty and about 2 metres wide!
- Positano is fabulous and a trip up to Ravello a must-do. Praiano has limited shopping but the small shops in the village cater for most needs. There is even an Internet cafe.
- Summer in Italy has been a fabulous company to deal with. From our first enquiry they have been really on the ball with replies to queries and up to date advice. The newsletters are wonderful too, and very informative. We will HIGHLY recommend Summer in Italy to all our travelling friends.

October 2018 - My family and friends shared Villa Lorena recently from September 29th to October 20th. I was somewhat concerned about what the villa would be like because we had made arrangements through a different agency for a rental in Rome and were very disappointed with the accommodations. However, Villa Lorena was even more beautiful than the pictures described. Our bedrooms were ample and divided from each other by bathrooms, closets, etc. One bedroom had access to its own private verandah with a lemon tree. We could relax and read under its shade on sunny afternoons. The main verandah was ample and allowed all six of us to sunbathe or relax in the shade of the bougainvillea every afternoon. The sunsets in the evening were absolutely spectacular, setting over the cliffs of the Sorrento peninsula and the Isle of Capri!
The living areas were ample and we enjoyed eating meals on the verandah or in the dining area. The weather couldn't have been better -- we only experienced cloudy or rainy days about three times during the three weeks we were there. The kitchen was well-equipped, though we had trouble with hot water at the kitchen sink for a time, but that was fixed before we left. Luigi, the property manager, was very personable and our daughters spent some time at his bar in the town of Praiano several evenings.
The townspeople of Praiano were so nice and we almost felt like natives by the time we left. Many spoke some English and we tried hard to make ourselves understood with our rudimentary Italian. All were helpful and friendly and we felt very secure walking to and from town, even late at night. The local church was beautiful, with majolica floor tiles and an interior painted in soft pastels trimmed in white. It looked like a beautiful wedding cake! The beautiful church bells chimed during the day and we could hear distant rooster crows each morning. It was perfectly charming!
My husband and I had both had back surgery prior to our visit and my sister-in-law had a knee replaced in May. All of us benefited from the many stairs and walking to and from town daily. If we had contracted with physical therapy, it would have been much more expensive and not nearly as enjoyable! The SITA bus was available a short distance from our villa and we made many memorable trips along the coast. We were able to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples and even Paestum without much difficulty. We rode the Circumvesuviana train without any problems, though we had read about pickpockets. There was a local taxi service and we contracted with him to take us to Ravello for a wonderful cooking class with Mamma Agata and her daughter, Chiara.
We all hated to leave such a wonderful place. I would highly recommend the villa and also SummerInItaly for anyone desiring to visit the area.

July 2018 - We had such a wonderful time at Villa Lorena, we were very sad to have our vacation end. We especially loved the terrace and the view of Praiano to the left and Positano to the right. Watching the boats go by directly below us in the beautiful sea was a favorite way to pass the time.
The kids also liked seeing the lizards climbing the walls of the terrace and tried hard to catch one, but were not successful. I hope this doesn't put off future guests, because we thoroughly enjoyed watching the lizards, which are actually found all over the Amalfi coast. The interior of the house was spotless, and we had no problems with any bugs or mosquitoes.
We also enjoyed the card table in the living room, and the kids spent many evenings playing cards before we ventured out for a late dinner in town.
The kitchen is well equipped, and we stayed in and cooked on two occasions. We also enjoyed making our morning Espresso there. We felt our choice of staying in peaceful Praiano was a smart one, after visiting the more touristy Positano and Amalfi.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
We decided to book with Summer in Italy because of the reliable responsiveness whenever we inquired. We will definitely do so again.
Travel tips
- The restaurants in Praiano were really great, and were less expensive which was a bonus with a large family. Some restaurants we enjoyed were La Strada, La Brace and the Pizzeria right by the church. We sat outside and enjoyed watching the kids play soccer in the square in front of the church.
- From Praiano we did day-trips to Positano, Ravello (which we loved), Capri, Pompeii and Amalfi.
- We shopped in the market by the bus stop in town almost everyday for water, wine, and bread, cheese and meats.
- We took the local orange bus and SITA buses and found them very easy and convenient to use. They were crowded, and sometimes we had to stand, but they were on time, and came regularly throughout the day and night.

June 2018 - It was magical. The view to the north, Positano and to the south the town of Praiano. You could hear the church bells ringing on the hour... The walk into town was a short 10 mins. To the near beach 650 steps down... and up. I got in the best shape of my life walking that and eating the seafood every night.
We even bought steaks from the local butcher one evening.
Praiano is very reasonable compared to the close by Amalfi and Positano. After a couple days we felt like locals. Everyone was so nice and Luigi [the owner] was so accommodating. We will definitely come back.
Travel tips
- Bring bug spray. We all seemed to have bug bites.
- Renting mopeds is a great way to get around.
- We loved the little restaurant that overlooks the Church. You can watch the kids playing soccer well into the evening. Our children joined them after we ate, while the adults sat and had drinks. It was wonderful.
- The beach south of the Africana Club was our favorite.

April 2018 - We had the perfect holiday escaping for the world at the villa, and we look forward to next time!
It was tempting to spend the whole week in the villa, rather than venturing out to enjoy the many exciting sights and activities in the area. Bit crowded in the kitchen, but we made it work out just fine. Amazing balcony, perfect living room space - the priorities, of course!
Mr Luigi [the caretaker] was absolutely fantastic to help us have a wonderful holiday - thank you!!

July 2017 - My family and I loved our stay at Villa Lorena!
Looking at Positano in the evening from the terrace was enchanting... my daughter said it looked like champagne bubbles on the hill. The luxury yachts would pull in for the day, and we could watch from our gorgeous perch on the cliffs.
I read outside every morning while enjoying the fresh air and view of the cliffs, sea and the village of Praiano with its gorgeous church.
The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were in excellent condition. The kitchen had everything one could need. Having a washing machine was very helpful. The couches in the living room are so comfortable, sometimes I would just conk out there while watching the sea.
Villa Lorena is quite near the bus-stop for both Sita and the local bus. The recommended taxi service on the note on the wall was also very helpful. They were able to pick us up and take us to a beach without a zillion stairs.
I have had a hip replacement and my joints are not very good, so I was somewhat afraid of the 72 stairs! The second day, all of our quads were shaking, but the third day, our muscles got the hang of it and our fitness level improved tremendously. In spite of eating all the gelato and pasta I could desire, I lost two pounds and quite a few inches and came home more physically fit than I have been in many years. The combination of the walking the stairs was wonderful for me, and my hip pain is gone!
When we arrived, the fragrance of the wisteria planted along the stairs greeted us, the the lovely, magenta colored bougainvillea which covered the terrace was delightful. The roses and the fantastic lemon tree off of the bedroom which leads to one of the three terraces were fragrant and it was fun to hear a lemon drop once in a while.
We vastly preferred staying in Praiano to Positano and way more than Amalfi. The restaurants in Praiano are wonderful and less expensive than the nearby, highly over-rated resorts. Amalfi and Positano were just a few minutes away by bus, but we were so much more relaxed just hanging around in Praiano. The walk into the village of Praiano and back was short and gave us time to savor the view. The terraced gardens, with olive trees, lemon trees, and lots of other goodies continually delighted us.
Anna, the manager, was excellent and a lovely person to deal with.
Villa Lorena is a wonderful find.

We were so happy to be in between Positano and Amalfi. Both towns were a little too touristy for us so Praiano was perfect!

April 2017 - We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Lorena.
It was larger than we imagined with 3 good sized bedrooms, none of which shared a wall. The patio was amazing, what a view! We had a lovely view of Positano to the north and Praiano to the south and Capri to the west. The patio was right off the kitchen or living room and we spent many hours there.
We were very pleased with the location of the villa, a 10 minute walk, so we were close enough for convenience, but far from the traffic and noise. The only sounds we heard occasionally were of the family above us, but I'm sure they heard us, too!
The house was very clean and the caretaker Anna provided much helpful advice.
We were very pleased with Summer In Italy. We have recommended it to many people. The ease of use of your website and your prompt correspondence made this reservation a pleasure. We were also impressed with the affordable prices you offered. Thank you

The caretaker Anna was really friendly although our Italian was not very good and her English was like our Italian!
The view from the terrace was outstanding. We did not even mind the 67 stairs to go up to the street!
We will definitely suggest your agency and Villa Lorena for anyone looking for a villa in Italy.

I think we had one of the best views on the coastline as we had a perfect view of both Positano and Praiano. I could have happily spent the entire week just sitting on the terrace under the bougainvillea gazing out.
We liked being a short walk away from Praiano, only 10 minutes, which didn't feel nearly as touristy as nearby Positano.

April 2016 - Villa Lorena is in a wonderful location. The views are spectacular! There are views of the water and the towns of Praiano and Positano. We liked staying in Praiano as it is small, not too busy, and a short drive from the villa. After two weeks of travelling, we really enjoyed staying in one place, being able to make our own meals, and just relaxing.
The villa isn't fancy, but it is very comfortable. It has a good-sized living and dining room and a fairly well-equipped kitchen. One of the bathrooms is large with a tub-shower combination. The other bathroom is small with a shower that didn't work well and gets the bathroom all wet. The bedrooms are spaced apart down a long hallway, so they have privacy.
Good things: location, views, size, patio, price, washing machine, large clothesline, parking space off the road (extra charge).
Inconveniences: poor electrical system, shower in small bathroom, lots of steps from road to house (worth the privacy & view), no telephone.
I would recommend Villa Lorena. It is a great place to rest and relax and enjoy the Amalfi Coast! Just make sure that you know how to operate all the appliances and where the fuse box is located outside.

October 2015 - Villa Lorena was absolutely beautiful and the views are stunning from the kitchen, living room and terrace.
We spent most of our time out on the terrace where there is a large table and many chairs. The kitchen has everything you would want for preparing and serving meals.
Praiano is a good base for exploring all of the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello.
Every morning we really enjoyed walking down to Hotel Fiorio and having our cafe latte and croissant while we waited for the SITA bus. (There is no reason to drive up and down the Amalfi coast with the regular and economical bus and train service.)
The neighbors in the area were all very friendly and helpful, and put up with my pathetic attempts at Italian. The upstairs neighbors seemed to need to move heavy furniture each morning (at least that is what it sounded like!) but we didn't really mind all that much since we wanted to get up and explore the coastline anyway.
Villa Lorena was spacious, comfortable, attractively furnished and well-located. I recommend it as a wonderful place for anyone but especially a family with children. Just make sure that no one has a problem ascending and descending stairs! (This is the case in most of the Amalfi Coast towns, which are really not horizontal towns, they are vertical and carved into the side of the seaside cliffs. quite amazing!)

July 2008 - Villa Lorena is a lovely home set high on the cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. It's private, yet located close enough to the town that you do not feel isolated.
While watching the boats go back & forth from the focal point of the house -- the porch, you see the town of Positano to your right, and the beautiful village of Praiano (with it's gorgeous church), to your left.
We loved the villa, loved the view, loved being in Praiano. The people who live there were engaging and welcoming, and we just very much enjoyed all aspects of our stay.
It's a wonderful place set in the midst of the fairytale setting of the Amalfi Coast.
We were very impressed with the quality of service from Summer in Italy. The villa was just as depicted on the website, all the financial transactions were completed smoothly, and the informational packet provided was very helpful. We love Italy (and in fact were in Tuscany in April this year), and definitely will use Summer in Italy again when we return. Thanks so much!
Travel tips
- If you want a quieter base to stay in from which to explore the Amalfi Coast, Praiano is a perfect choice. It is a lovely town, and just a short bus ride from both Positano and Amalfi, as well as a number of other charming smaller towns along the way.
- The bus, boat & train transportation systems make getting pretty much anywhere easy. We took day trips to places further out than Positano & Amalfi without any problems (Capri, Sorrento, Salerno, Pompeii, Ravello, etc.). Unless you have severe problems walking, the steps up & down from the street to the villa are no problem. It is steep, but not nearly as steep as, say, getting from the bus stop in Positano to the beach boardwalk below. The walking ensures you see everything!
- The villa is an easy walk to the town, which has a number of shops, gelaterias, and restaurants.
- The grocery store just past the church has all the staples, as well as fresh fruits & vegetables, wonderful croissants, Asiago cheese, breads & prosciutto.
- We ate in many of Praiano's excellent restaurants -- La Strada, Il Pino, Le Brace, the ristorante in the Hotel Tramonto D'Oro, and the San Gennaro pizzeria overlooking the church piazza and the gulf. All were very good. Even though dinner does not begin until around 7:30, we had no problems taking our children (5, 7 and 11) to all the restaurants. For 5 and younger, it's probably best to get there early -- right as the restaurant opens, but all have beautiful open air terraces & dining rooms (which are lively and not hush hush quiet), and children always felt welcome. In fact, on our return from Pompeii to Praiano around 11 pm one Friday night (and the town was hopping -- everyone at Il Sole bar or out on the streets & the piazza), even though the San Gennaro restaurant was finishing up for the evening, they graciously seated us all and fed us a terrific meal.
- We usually ate breakfast at home, but for a treat get the "complete breakfast" at the Hotel Le Fioriere. It was great. It also is a great gathering place -- early morning and late in the evenings everyone is spilling out onto it's outdoor tables that line Praiano's main street.
- You must see the inside of Praiano's beautiful church -- the mosaic tiled floor simply takes your breath away. We were lucky enough to be there for a first communion/festival day, and attended church services and the morning & evening processions of the Madonna through the town. It was a highlight of our trip.
- If you have children, be sure and stop by the piazza at the church after 7/7:30 in the evening. All the children, young & old, along with their parents, are playing and chatting, and just hanging out all around. Our children enjoyed playing with the local kids at the piazza in the evenings as much as anything.
- Everyone, tourists & locals, takes the local Sita bus and the little orange bus that goes back & forth between Positano & Praiano. It's a very easy, and interesting, way to travel up and down the Amalfi Coast. You get to see everything, and the buses are inexpensive and run frequently. You can buy tickets for both buses in the grocery store and at the Il Sole bar.
- You must go to One Fire Beach! From the church piazza you walk down, and down, and down the cliffs to La Gavitella -- the Praiano beach. It's a charming & lively place to spend a long afternoon sunning and swimming, surrounded by the sea of orange umbrellas and the high cliffs. Our children went wild for jumping off the (smaller) cliffs right into the ocean, and wanted nothing more than to go to One Fire Beach every day. There are two restaurants by the beach which serve very good food.
- Other beaches close by also include Marina di Praia (fun w/lots of good restaurants right there, but a little rocky so be sure and bring water shoes to wear), and the small, beautiful beach heading toward Amalfi called Marina di Conca -- it is breathtakingly beautiful, and where Roberto Rossellini filmed parts of The Miracle in the 50s. There is a small, and very good, restaurant right there on the beach and we spent a wonderful afternoon there.
- Another option is the beautiful rooftop pool at the Hotel Tramonto D'Oro. You can purchase a day pass and spend a wonderful afternoon swimming, while looking down on the town of Praiano and the Gulf of Salerno. One afternoon when I had an hour to kill with my 7 year old, the hotel (for a much reduced price) allowed us to buy a pass for just the hour so we could pass the time like that.
- Everyone we met in Praiano was kind and polite and very helpful. And, if you need a local taxi service or a day car service, be sure to get in touch with Mr. Gennaro Rispoli -- his car service is right there on Praiano's main street, across from the church. He was very helpful to us, and knows everything and everyone of interest.
- All the towns up and down the coast are magical in their own way -- it would be hard to exaggerate the beauty & charm of such well known places as Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and the like. Smaller towns we also loved include Minori (the small seaside town down the cliffs at the base of Ravello -- you can, as we did, walk the Minori path from the top of Ravello all the way down to the beach of Minori, and then jump in the ocean), and Marina di Praia (the location of the Africana nightclub of lore which hugs the cliffs right over the water).
- Ila Pirata and Alfonso a Mare both were very good restaurants -- the former perhaps a little better for younger children.
- It would be hard to cover everything, and difficult to have a bad time in any of the various towns. We never had a bad meal anywhere, the boats were great fun to travel in to get to different places, and the people of Praiano made us all feel welcome. We would recommend it as a terrific place to stay in any event, as well as a place to travel the Amalfi Coast from.

April 2008 - Villa Lorena is a spotlessly clean and lovely home with an incredible view.
The pictures on the website do not do it justice. We were very surprised by how large it is. There were five of us and we had plenty of space to spread out and relax.
The location of the villa is perfect. It is only about a ten minute walk from town and just a few feet from the Sita bus.
We are so happy that we chose Praiano as our home base. The town is lovely and personal and made us feel connected.
Mr. Luigi [the caretaker] is top notch (he speaks wonderful English) and we really enjoyed stopping into his hotel to say hi and have a drink.
Our advice for Summer in Italy is to keep doing what you are doing! We couldn't have been more satisfied. You were helpful, prompt with your responses, clear with your directions and advice and friendly in your manner. I have several friends inquiring about our trip and I will not hesitate to recommend you.
Thank you so much for your part in making our trip to Italy so memorable. When we return to visit another region, we will definitely do business again.
Travel tips
- Be prepared for a wonderful stay in a place of incredible beauty. Praiano is a great location because it is less touristy than the other towns yet only a short bus ride from them. We actually walked 10 kilometers to Amalfi one day. It was a hike, but a great way to see the area.
- If you are fit and up for an adventure, try the Path of the Gods. It is 1000 steps up to a small church, and if you are ready to see some incredible country, continue on the nature trail to the town of Nocelle. The nature trail is rough and requires lots of climbing, but the views are spectacular. The hike will take about 5 hours. When you reach Nocelle, take the orange bus into Positano. The alternative is a 1700 step descent which is tough after the hike.

March 2008 - We stayed at Villa Lorena at Easter 2008, and we really did enjoy our week there, we loved the villa and the location and views were truly amazing.
It was 66 steps up and down to the villa, which was fine, you very quickly get used to it. It is a very easy 10 minute walk into Praiano to the local bars and restaurants.
I loved your web site contained every thing you really need to know, your customer service was excellent, you even had a free phone number.
It was very easy to book our villa with you and will do so again, when we visit Tuscany.
Travel tips
- Try and take the local bus everywhere, it is much easier than risking life and limb driving your self. If you do hire a car, make sure you take out good car insurance cover, as driving around the coastal towns of Positano and Amalfi can be treacherous.

May 2005 - This place is paradise! I will definitely be going back.
My quads really got a workout on those steps to and from the house, but I got used to it pretty quickly. But if you or someone you're traveling with is not in decent (not great, just decent) shape (condition), you'd better pass on the gorgeous Villa Lorena.
We were there May 21-28, 2005. We bought a radio and left it there as a gift to the house and future visitors. Enjoy!
Thank you, Summer in Italy people. You are wonderful. We'll be back!
