The villa was astounding!!!

September 2024 - It was absolutely amazing! There could not be a better spot in the Amalfi Coast with a more beautiful view and such wonderful peaceful spaces to enjoy!!! And it was right on the Path of Gods and right next to the beach and on the bus stop and walking distance to Positano. Absolutely stunning!!!

Loved the location

August 2024 - We loved the location and amenities. The walk to town is about twenty minutes and is beautiful. The view from the home, the terraces, and space are absolutely lovely, and the air conditioning was appreciated to cool rooms in the evenings. The home is very well kept.

I would highly recommend Summer in Italy. I had a seamless experience booking and finding transport with your help, and appreciate your service very much!

It could not have been a more perfect oasis for our family group

July 2024 - We stayed at Villa La Roccia the first week of July. It could not have been a more perfect oasis for our family group. The villa has three separate areas; the top apartment is a one bedroom, one bath, kitchen and living area. Perfect for a couple looking to escape. The second level apartment is the largest. Three bedrooms, two baths, two kitchens, a large indoor dining and family room space. The patio is where we had two home cooked meals that were amazing. The best meals we had. The third apartment, lowest level, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and family area.

The owners, Mrs Daniela and Mr Giovanni, were the most gracious individuals and we loved interacting with them! They were so welcoming and patient as we tried our newly learned Italian while conversing with them. We were fascinated on the stories they told about how the home was built. Mr Giovanni takes great pride in tending to the gardens, pool space and lemon grove. It was a joy to see him each morning. Mr Giovanni was also very gracious in providing carbon so we could use the grill to cook salsiccia (sausages) from the butcher in town. (The butcher is near Collina Bakery.) We appreciate all the help provided and treasure the time we spent with them!

I booked with Summer In Italy because they had a site that was easy to navigate and the follow-up was on the mark. The properties fit the needs for our family and the additional connections they provided (introducing us to Marilena for transport and a Pompeii / wine tasting lunch) made things so much easier. Thank you for all the support and patience in answering all the questions. Keep up the great customer service!

Travel tips

  • Future guests should know that there is a beach club (Arienzo Beach Club) right across the street. You have to climb a few steps and that adds to the charm of the adventure. We gathered our courage for a bit of cliff jumping off the main beach there.
  • Take a 15 minute walk into town to visit Collina Bakery. I took the trip in the morning to get fresh croissants for breakfast. It's also nice to see the town early in the morning when the crowds are yet to wake.
  • Finally, if you're brave and strong enough to climb the several hundred steps up to Nocelle, you'll find a wonderful church, lemon granita stand at the top of your climb. Continue towards the Path of the Gods and stop at Il Chiosco del Sentiero degli Dei for a drink or lunch. We loved interacting with the family there!

The property is amazing and well equipped!

September 2023 - Amazing view and an extremely well-appointed villa. Plenty of space to spread out along with a number of peaceful and individual garden areas if you want to relax or simply be on your own. Indoor and outdoor entertaining areas are very spacious with seating for up to 12 people. With 6 good size bedrooms and modern bathrooms it has a real family feel.

We were extremely happy with all correspondence with Summer In Italy. It was prompt and on point.

Travel tips

  • We travelled as a group of 12 (6 couples) so I can definitely recommend this villa to groups of friends travelling together. It would also be great for large families due to the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. It would also suit multi-generational travelers as the bedrooms are spread across 3 levels (privacy) each with their own kitchen facilities.
  • The villa is 5-10 minutes out of town, if needed you can catch a taxi (not expensive).
  • We toured and ate out during the day, and came back to the villa in the afternoon and relaxed by the pool and ate in. Well-appointed kitchen included or takeaway delivery options available.
  • As Positano is perched on a hill, almost everywhere has steps and Villa Ernestina has stairs.

Stunning postcard views of Positano!

August 2023 - Very much enjoyed our stay at Villa La Roccia! The owners and staff provided excellent catering for 2 of our dinners. The postcard views of Positano from the villa were stunning!

Very happy with your service at Summer In Italy and have recommended you to my travel agency friends.

Travel tips

  • If you have a car do your major shopping at supermarkets in Piano di Sorrento. We went to Supermercato Tre Esse and was very good. Positano has basics only.

April 2022 - Villa La Roccia is amazing! Giovanni [the caretaker] was the best!!! The whole team looked after us like royalty!

Even though the lower villa is close to the street it adds to the authentic charm of Positano.

Best part of our trip to Italy

August 2019 - Everything was amazing - we had 3 families with children from 11 to 16. Everyone had their own space but lots of areas where we could all be together. Having the pool was amazing. Unbelievable views... Drinks and appetizers on the terrace every night.

We had groceries delivered from town and cooked dinner at the house many nights. We rented a boat for the day and went to Capri for lunch. It was such a great day, highly recommend renting the boat.

The property owner was charming and so very helpful.

I would definitely go back! Can't say enough good things - you won't be disappointed.

The property is wonderful and is maintained meticulously

July 2018 - We stayed in the villa with a large group of family members. The multiple levels of Villa La Roccia was wonderful, and allowed for privacy when needed but the large living room floor allowed for everyone to be together as well. The location and views from the villa terraces are wonderful and second to none. The property is wonderful and is maintained meticulously.

Giovanni [the owner] is the absolute best. His office is very close by and he is able and willing to help out for any needs of the group while traveling.

Travel tips

  • Some reviews say that Villa La Roccia is walking distance to Positano, this is true as we had some of our group walk on occasion. For those who are traveling with small children, adults who don't do well with inclines, or just don't feel like walking a long distance then you will most likely need taxi or bus service to get into Positano.

We absolutely loved it!

October 2017 - We absolutely loved it! Villa La Roccia is in excellent condition and the location was perfect with a 15 minute walk to downtown Positano. There is also a local bus stop immediately in front of the house which was convenient for those wishing to not walk. The villa itself is amazing and the views are spectacular from all 4 levels of the house. The stonework is beautiful and the gardens on the property are wonderful. There were ample supplies in the villa such as plenty of glassware, plates, utensils, plastic bags, bottles of water and juice upon arrival. There were plenty of towels for each of the bathrooms.

No one wanted to leave. Would DEFINITELY recommend the Villa La Roccia.

The villa owner 'Giovanni' took excellent care of the house and grounds to ensure everything was neat and clean. He was extremely helpful for becoming familiar with the local attractions such as where to shop for food and local restaurants. Parking is tight in all of the Positano and Amalfi area yet Giovanni helped to ensure we had adequate parking spaces. Giovanni's daughter 'Daniela' was also very helpful in assisting to arrange a special event at the villa and was very communicative with all the various details.

Excellent. The booking process was easy and the subsequent communications were also excellent.

Travel tips

  • Bring comfortable shoes. There are lots of steps and stairs in the Positano area and to successfully negotiate these you need comfortable shoes.
  • Don't bring too many vehicles. That said, with Giovanni's help we were able to find (during our stay, mid October) extra parking quite close to the villa quite easily.
  • There is excellent hiking right from the villa up the mountainside.

This place is spectacular!

July 2017 - We were a party of 10 people and stayed for a week (June 24-July 1, 2017) and would agree with all the other reviews - this place is spectacular! The villa itself (essentially 3 separate "villas" with a connecting staircase and common pool) is absolutely beautiful - from the views to the furnishings (both of which, in our opinion, are better than the pics, if that's possible).

We're world travelers and we can say, without a doubt, this is most beautiful place we've stayed in our lives.

Great job to Giovanni and his daughters [the owners] for all their help/care during our stay. They took great care of us - and after a long day of traveling, made us window reservations at Restaurant Da Constantino on our first night (complete with van service) - we even ordered pizza delivery one night and ate on the terrace. Oh, and his "friend's" Limoncello was the best we had on the trip! Many thanks!

Summer In Italy was very responsive and helped us with a number of items before we arrived.

Travel tips

  • As others have said, Giovanni was an absolute gem - he's on site daily and fixed a number of small issues (burner on stove, hot water, etc.) within minutes of us telling him the issue... And you just need to mention his name/address in town and immediately everyone knows him and where you're staying.
  • We brought our own pool toys (floats) and a portable bluetooth speaker (for music) - I'm not sure if the neighbors enjoyed it, but it made our stay more enjoyable by the pool (Mambo Italiano, but Dean Martin was a favorite).
  • We used the chef service one night - and that was a highlight - and was not that expensive for what we got and we ate on the terrace until a wind storm came through.
  • Use the Deli delivery service - it's a life saver!
  • Strongly suggest you ask for food to be stocked ahead of time - that made our first day upon arrival a lot easier - we had bread/cheese/salami/wine on the terrace overlooking Positano within an hour of arrival.

Wonderful holiday

June 2017 - We had a truly wonderful holiday. Giovanni, the owner, was very attentive but unobtrusive - a perfect combination. The villa is beautifully appointed and has spectacular views across Positano and out to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Daniela, Giovanni's daughter, was also extremely accommodating and supportive.

Italy is a vibrant and dramatic country so wherever you go there is usually the hustle and bustle of traffic ... but it adds to the fun and excitement! Positano is known as 'the vertical city'. It is very beautiful but steep.

I would highly recommend Summer in Italy. The service received from the moment I made the initial enquiry to my silly questions in between to the follow up after our return was second to none.

The whole experience was superb. Thank you. A first class service from a very professional company. Congratulations to all the team.

Travel tips

  • The villa is situated just outside of Positano (town). Walking into town is an option for the fit but, as the roads are quite busy and narrow, we elected mostly to take advantage of the bus services. The timetable is a bit 'hit and miss' depending on holiday traffic but it's a very easy journey. There seem to be two bus services: SITA (for which you need to buy tickets in advance from the local tabaccaio, cost about €1.20 each way), or the local bus service (tickets can be bought - on boarding - from the bus driver - about €1).
  • We opted not to hire a car as parking on the Amalfi coast is very limited and, unless you are used to the roads, driving can be intimidating! We used Amalfi Cars for transfers and excursions. They were brilliant - great value for money, well presented vehicles and polite and knowledgeable drivers.
  • Some local taxis don't have meters so be careful not to be overcharged.
  • There are food shops in Positano but if you don't fancy carrying the shopping back to the villa, a couple of the local shops provide an amazing delivery service.
  • For our group, our bucket-list experience of Pompeii did not disappoint.
  • Hiring a 12-seater power cruiser (through Daniela) for the day was memorable - our destination was Capri and we stopped for lunch at Nerano on the way back. Perfect.
  • The Emerald Grotto at Furore, just along the coast on the way to Amalfi, was well worth a visit.

Fantastic

May 2015 - Our group of 12 ladies stayed at Villa La Roccia for a week to celebrate my 40th birthday. We found the house to be spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for people to be alone and relax if they wanted, or to enjoy time together on the lovely terraces.

Villa La Roccia is located in an ideal spot about a 10-15 minute walk outside of the Positano city center. It is just far enough away from town to be more peaceful, and also to give a PERFECT view of the whole city from the villa's terraces (including the occasional evening fireworks)! But it is not too far away to walk into town for dining, shopping, or taking the ferry over to Capri.

Giovanni, the caretaker, is sweet and hilarious and is known by everyone in the town.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat. A great find!

Fantastic experience!

Travel tips

  • The Arienzo Beach Club is literally just underneath the villa down the (many) stairs - don't miss it!

September 2013 - I can't say enough good things about this villa. It was the perfect choice for us. It accomodated my whole family, (and a couple cousins), but didn't seem crowded at all.

We all enjoyed the pool, the spacious living room, the stunning view. It was a short walk to the centre of town, yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet.

We could order food and supplies from the local deli, and they would deliver it for us to our door, no problem, whenever we wanted. Giovanni, the caretaker, was friendly, helpful in so many ways, so nice.

June 2013 - Villa Ernestina was like a dream come true.

We had breakfast on the upper patio in the mornings with our grandchildren, then walked into Positano for the day. We ordered dinner from the deli to be delivered at 7 PM three nights, and walked back to the villa where we cooled off in the pool. We cleaned up and the whole family of twelve ate dinner on the lower patio watching the sunset. After dinner we sat outside watching the kids in the pool and just looking at the city lights. At night the moon shone into our upstairs windows and off the ocean. It was like a fairy tale.

Your representatives were very friendly and helpful throughout the process. I would book with you again if this type of vacation accommodations are wanted again. You did not oversell the villa, if anything it was better than we expected.

Travel tips

  • The deli listed in their book makes excellent dinners and will deliver, along with fruits and vegetables you pick while you are in the store, as well as wines and other grocery items. We stopped at a grocery on our way to the villa to pick up milk and bread and cheese etc and that worked well for us.

August 2010 - We absolutely enjoyed every moment of our time at Ernestina. Whether it was enjoying coffee in the morning on the lower terrace or eating dinner in the evening on the upper terrace. The view is postcard picture perfect -- morning, noon and night -- and we couldn't get enough of it.

The villa inside was sufficiently cool and each bedroom can adjust the air conditioner to their liking.

Giovanni, meccanico, as he is known was very friendly and welcoming and helped us with anything we needed -- even driving us into town on the first day to buy groceries. Thank you again Giovanni!

Travel tips

July 2010 - Villa Ernestina is a lovely spot. The view is fantastic; the villa itself is very well equipped; the owner is wonderful to deal with.

The walk down to the local beach was no problem and the climb up the stairs to the Walk of the Gods was an experience we would highly recommend to the fit traveler.

Having a pool was a nice bonus. The terraces and porches really make the villa into an indoor/outdoor sanctuary.

We had a wonderful week and would recommend this villa to others as long as guests understand the distance into town and nature of the roads to get there.

Travel tips

  • Guests should be aware that although the walk into the center of Positano is not long (1 km), it is not a pleasant walk during the busy season. The traffic on the road is significant, the road is narrow, and there are no sidewalks. We would not recommend this walk for small children or the inattentive walker. (Having said that, there are tons of walkers using this road and we saw no accidents... so maybe we were just paranoid.) As a result of the traffic on the road, getting into Positano for the beach, shopping, dining, etc. is a bit of a hassle from the villa. It's not enough to cause us not to return to Villa Ernestina, but guests should be prepared for it. The good news is that some of the grocery markets have delivery services, which are worth exploring so that you don't have heavy bags as you navigate the walk back from town. Also, many of the restaurants in the area will send car services to pick you up, so you truly are not stranded.
  • Also, we would want guests to be aware that the local beach, which is conveniently down the stairs from the villa, is covered in pebbles on the free side. These pebbles do not make for comfortable sitting or lying conditions. The nicer area (better sand and chairs) is the part of the beach that charges a fee for entrance. This was not a significant issue for us, but we wished we had understood this dynamic before we arrived.

July 2010 - Our family and friends enjoyed our stay at Enestina A this past July. The property is First Class and the view is spectacular. The location is about a 15 minute walk from the center of Positano and is located right above Arienzo Beach.

However, the best part of our stay was getting to know Giovanni "Meccanico", he is definately one of the nicest people we have ever met. Giovanni is the caretaker of the property and the unofficial Mayor of Positano. He welcomed us to the villa with wine from his personal collection and later drove my wife and myself into town to shop. He took us to Alimentari Cinque where he intoduced us to his friends, the shopkeepers and together, they helped us select only the best items. Giovanni always made himself available if he sensed we needed something and he made us feel like family. The entire experience could not have been any better. Thank you Giovanni for such a great experience.

Travel tips

  • Consider waiting until you arrive in Positano to purchase supplies for the villa rather than stopping in the large supermarket in Pompei. The local flavor is munch better!!!
  • Day trips are easily arranged from Positano to Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi etc.

July 2008 - Villa Ernestina was the perfect location for a week on the Amalfi Coast. Giovanni, the owner, was there to greet us and since he works in his auto shop below the villa, he was there to help us with anything we needed and more.

The view from the balcony/terrace was breathtaking. Positano was a little too far for us to walk, but the bus stopped right below our villa and was a quick ride into the town.

It was very hot during our week, so the air conditioning in the bedrooms was a plus.

The villa was perfect for two or three couples or a family.

Everything Summer In Italy said about our villa was true. Your website is easy to view properties and Luca e-mailed me back immediately when I had a question.

Travel tips

  • If you take the bus into Positano, get off at the first stop and walk into town or you will wind up riding an extra 20 minutes on some very twisting roads.
  • The Capri Jet was a great way to get to Capri as was the boat to Sorrento.
  • The bus ride is very winding and you need a strong stomach to make the trip.
  • Our last and most expensive, but also most enjoyable dinner was spent at Le Sirenuse Hotel in Positano.
  • You must visit Ravello, but be aware that the roads are very windy and high.
  • A highlight of our trip was the cooking class we took in Ravello with Mamma Agata.

The terrace was brilliant and we spent most our time their overlooking Positano.

Had an excellent stay and the owners were really helpful and kind.

Travel tips

  • Use the bus into Positano - it costs 1 Euro compared to 25 Euro for a taxi.
  • Buses leave about every hour and is a fun ride on the bendy roads.

April 2006 - We had the most wonderful time and highly recommend Villa Ernestina.

The view is fantastic and far better than suggested by the pictures.

May I add that the owner, Giovanni, is a prince -- he was incredibly kind and helpful when one of our children hurt his foot.

You could not do better than this place.
