Relaxing stay

September 2024 - We had an amazing and relaxing week in this enormous villa with a fantastic view.

Anna was wonderful, gave us some homemade cheese and olive oil and even baked a cake for us.

Great experience with Luca and Summer In Italy, excellent communication, and information. I certainly will use your company again if I should book my next villa in Italy!

Amazing authentic experience!

May 2024 - We had an amazing experience at Villa Gioconda. Our host Anna was so attentive and sweet. If you are seeking some solitude, a beautiful view, and an authentic experience, this is your place. We had so much space for the 4 of us. The house is enormous.

Summer In Italy was very helpful and contextual as we planned our visit. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Maxi Futura is close and superb grocery store.
  • Restaurant Bonora was amazing for dinner and the view.
  • Don't miss spending time in old town Agropoli.

Fantastic location!

September 2023 - We had a lovely time at the villa. The location and proximity to beaches, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii was fantastic. We had great access to the grocery store.

The on site manager was wonderful! She picked fresh figs, made some delicious cheese for us and kept the villa and pool clean. Thank you for all of your help with the washing machine, and thank you for your daily pool cleanings, fresh figs, and cheeriness!

Great experience with Summer In Italy! Your group provided excellent communication, and I loved the voucher information and newsletters. I will use your company again to book my next villa in Italy!

Travel tips

  • We shopped at Conad and Eurospin.
  • Had great trips to surrounding beach towns, Salerno and Naples for ferry service to Ischia, and chartered a boat from Cetara for the Amalfi Coast.

Wonderful and relaxing week

August 2023 - We had a wonderful and relaxing week in this villa. There is a fantastic view from the terrace and pool. Everyone loved the pool not just kids, it's big, clean and refreshing. There is a lot of space in the villa and in the garden area, and we found everything as described in the advertisement. The room layout was also easy to manage.

A housekeeper came every day in the morning to take care of the garden and pool.

Overall it was a great vacation.

Very spacious, and had very good views of the coast!

April 2023 - We loved our stay in Villa Gioconda. We definitely needed a car as there are no shops within walking distance. The villa was very spacious and my grandsons loved playing games of hide and seek inside and out. The grounds were also spacious and had very good views of the coast. Youngest grandson loved lizard spotting too. The pool looked very inviting and the boys did go in once, briefly, but the weather was not conducive to swimming for most of us.

Summer In Italy were recommended by a good friend and were very easy to interact with and extremely helpful in all aspects of our holiday. Their notes on the website was also very helpful. I would certainly book through them again.

Travel tips

  • We most definitely needed a car and hired one from FP Car hire in Agropoli - we needed a 6 seater and they provided a very nice Ford Cmax for us.
  • We also booked Franco from Antares '91 Car Rental and Transfers for airport transfers as we arrived at Naples extremely late in the night and didn’t fancy negotiating the route on our own. Franco was excellent, prompt and we had a comfortable ride to and from Naples airport.
  • The week we visited, first week in April, was probably a bit early in the season as some restaurants and beach cafes were closed. We visited Restaurant Bonora in Castellabate twice as they served delicious pizzas and had a fabulous view with wonderful sunsets. We had a great evening at a local vineyard where we had lovely food to accompany very good wines. We were able to take the children too and they enjoyed the food and playing outside with the two JR terriers - one was a very mischievous puppy so the boys thought she was hilarious.
  • We visited one of the many buffalo farms and sampled buffalo ice cream - delicious!
  • We also visited the Caves of Castelcivita which were really worth it and tthe Greek Temples of Paestum, nearby and again really interesting.
  • I’d pre booked a child-friendly tour of the Excavations of Herculaneum through Viator. This was quite a long drive from the villa but we found it fascinating and our guide, Anna, was excellent.
  • We used local taxi drivers, Ernestina and her husband, Pasquale, who were both very reliable and friendly but a little pricy.

Beautiful villa! Perfect sized pool and terrace with amazing panoramic views

September 2022 - A beautiful villa with perfect sized pool and outdoor terrace with amazing panoramic views. Ideal for family or large groups.

The villa is isolated so a car is necessary as nothing in walking distance.

Would definitely go back.

Travel tips

  • As long as you have a car there are plenty of supermarkets and restaurants within a fifteen minute drive.

Fabulous place to get away from everything

August 2022 - The villa is around 4 miles up a hillside outside of Agropoli, with just a few other houses/farms in the near vicinity, and has absolutely stunning views over the Tyrrehnian Sea and North up the coast towards the Amalfi Coast, Salerno and Capri. It is yet still close enough for an easy 15 min drive into Agropoli or nearby Santa Maria Castellabate.

The villa itself is clean and incredibly spacious, and well equipped both inside and outside. It is still in excellent condition (although one or two bits are starting to show their age a little - but not in a detrimental way).

The pool and outside area are fabulous - plenty of places to find a shady place for a peaceful read, and the pool is well maintained and plenty big enough and deep enough for relaxing bathing/swimming.

Car is absolutely essential - but actually despite the isolation - it really isn't too far to the towns and supermarkets (15 min).

Regular attention from lovely Anna, the housekeeper, and her family mean all needs are seen to quickly (with some help from Google translate!) - and occasional delivery of home-baked treats is a real added bonus.

Overall - can't recommend enough. Our family of 5 (4 adults and a teenager) had a great time.

Travel tips

  • So much to see and do - both locally (Paestum amazing, water park, boat hire in Agropoli excellent, Palinuro, Teggiano, buffalo mozzarella farms etc.) and slightly further afield (Salerno, Mount Vesuvius, The Excavations of Herculaneum, The Excavations of Pompeii all within about 90 min drive).
  • Plenty of local eats and the food is just superb.

Plenty of space, big pool and lovely sunsets

July 2022 - We were very happy with our stay in Villa Gioconda. The villa is perfect if you are looking for a nice big house, clean, with big pool and lovely sunsets. We were 10 people and had plenty of space. You need a car, because there is nowhere to reach without it.

Excellent service from Anna [the caretaker] who lives close by and gave us all the answers we needed.

Easy and quick reply from Summer In Italy.

Amazing week in a comfy home

July 2022 - We are now back in Sweden after 10 days in a warm and beautiful Italy. The week in Villa Gioconda was amazing, it was all we had hoped for. Big, comfy, big areas outside, great pool and amazing sceneries.

We had great days and with some shorter trips in the neighborhood (Amalfi, Sorrento, Pompei) it felt short, one more week wouldn't hurt. 😅

Host Anna was great, service-minded and helpful. We had some problems with language but sorted it out.

We will surely return to your company next time and we will make sure to tell friends and family about your houses and your service.

Thank you for making this summer great!!

Large villa beautifully set with a breathtaking view of the sea

September 2021 - My wife and I were looking for a place to bring our family (three grown children and their spouses, and four small grandchildren) for a visit to Italy; more specifically the Amalfi Coast area.

Well, we found it in the town of Agropoli and the Villa Gioconda.

The villa is large and beautifully set with a breathtaking view of the sea. There is a spacious veranda where we spent many evenings sipping local wine taking in the view and watching our grand kids enjoying the pool below.

The large pool was an instant hit as was our housekeeper Anna and her daughter. She made us pizzas on our first evening there, since we arrived after 3:00 and were tired from the plane ride. It was amazing and super delicious. She also cooked a couple more meals for us during our stay, again they were excellent.

We would make several trips to Maxi Futura, grocery store, to pick up provisions for our stay, which was only about 10 minutes from the villa. By the way, there were fig trees on the property, eating a fresh fig was a delight.

We booked our trip in late August and early September, which was perfect.

Luca Trotta and his staff at Summer In Italy were the best, answering all of our questions and guiding us throughout. Luca, Kristiana and your staff were excellent.

Travel tips

  • We were picked up at the airport in three vans by Antares '91 Car Rental and Transfers, and we also rented two cars (definitely recommended) from them as well. Franco Nigro and his staff were excellent and we used them several times to get around.
  • My children also made several side trips to Positano (a must), Rome, and Sicily during our two week stay.
  • There is also a hidden gem only 10 minutes from the villa, the Winery Vini Marino. We booked a tour and was met by Assunta Marino and her sons and had the most wonderful couple of hours tasting their different wines and relishing over their parade of delicious dishes. We bought several cases of their wine to be shipped back to our home.
  • Also a trip and tour of Tenuta Vannulo, a buffalo mozzarella ranch, is a must.

A wonderful week-end

July 2020 - We had, simply, a wonderful weekend.

We stayed in a Villa where comfort is not a simple detail. The common areas are immensely large and cared for in every detail. The bedrooms look like those of your own home with anything you need and with a great pinch of surprises and many many spectacular views.

The garden is well-kept and the two icing on the big cake are the swimming pool (also recommended for children given the variable depths) and to conclude the immense sunsets. Simply the top!!

The villa is very spacious and well suited for two families to stay in

May 2019 - We had a great time at Villa Gioconda, although the weather was not that good. Especially the children liked the pool a lot. The villa is very spacious and well suited for two families to stay in.

Summer In Italy is great. Very helpful and flexible. We appreciate we could arrive a few hours earlier and have a late check-out. Next to that you gave us good advice concerning the surroundings and the possibility for a pizza workshop.

Travel tips

  • The surroundings of the villa are great. We went to Pompeii, Paestum, the Amalfi Coast and several other places. To get to Pompeii and Amalfi it takes approximately 1.5 hours driving!

Even a day spent at the villa by the pool was a memorable time

June 2018 - Ciao! I can tell you that my family (of 7) and I had a most wonderful time in Villa Gioconda. It was clean, spacious and easy to navigate. I would definitely like to revisit Villa Gioconda and will tell others about our positive experience there. It was relaxing and peaceful. Even a day spent at the villa by the pool was a memorable time.

Anna [the caretaker] was helpful and we enjoyed her meals and had nice conversation with her through Google translate.

I cannot say enough good about the professionalism and help that was given to me by Summer In Italy prior to my trip to Italy. They made the process easy and it was comforting to know that if we were to need any help, they were there for us. The villa descriptions are perfect and I was impressed by how much time Luca and his co-workers were willing to spend helping me make the right decision for my family. Any questions were answered by the next day and helped make the planning exciting! I would use Summer In Italy in a heartbeat again and will (and have already) recommend them to anyone who is going to the areas they rent in.

Travel tips

  • Be sure to watch for the goats as they pass by each night in front of the villa.
  • Franco Nigro (Antares '91 Car Rental and Transfers) was perfect in getting us from the airport to the villa, helping us rent cars, giving suggestions of different local things to do and getting us to our next villa later in the week.
  • Agropoli is a lovely little town. There are small food shops and wonderful eateries there. If you need a larger supermarket... Maxi Futura.
  • Not enough can be said about the housekeeper, Anna. Put in a request for pizza party and tiramisu.
  • Get gelato wherever you can!
  • Be sure to stay home a few nights to enjoy the spectacular sunsets.
  • Visit The Greek Temples of Paestum.
  • Make it a point to go to Santa Maria di Castellabate (beach)... We went twice.
  • Buffalo Mozzarella farms are a must also... We went twice for breakfast, cheese and to watch those buffaloes!
  • No matter what you do or where you go during your stay, it's always nice to know you can go home to a great dip in the pool, a homemade prepared meal and a comfortable bed. At Villa Gioconda you will feel like you are on top of the world!

Each room had its own bathroom, comfortable and quiet. There is not one thing that I had a problem with. My stay was pleasant and appreciated the care that taken to keep everything clean.

The views from the numerous terraces were picture perfect. Your view included Agropoli, the Amalfi Coast and the Island of Capri. A must while staying at Villa Gioconda is viewing the spectacular sunsets. Our stay was for 7 days and we made sure we had a glass of wine in our hands to toast the sunsets every night.

Fantastic

September 2017 - We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Villa Gioconda and in particular the many family meals taken on the veranda overlooking Agropoli and the sea.

The villa is very comfortable and fully met our expectations.

We booked via Summer in Italy after being defrauded by "Amalfi Homes". (Currently under investigation by the UK police). Summer in Italy were very efficient and helpful. Just amazing!

July 2017 - We've rented a couple of houses in Italy the last few years, but none of the others is even close to Villa Gioconda. A great house with the most magnificent view ever. Every night we gathered at the terrace with a glass of Prosecco and watched the sunset together. It was simply magic. I would recommend Villa Gioconda to anyone! Just amazing!

Not to mention Anna [the caretaker], this amazing old lady that stopped by every day and did the cleaning, etc. She was the cutest lady ever and any issue we could have, she took care of it.

Summer In Italy has been great in this process, from the moment we started looking at houses until our vacation was over. Great support and easy to get information from. Just a great experience from start to finish!

Travel tips

  • Just a couple of kilometers away from the villa there is a great vineyard called Azienda Agricola Marino. They do a great tour of the vineyard with a tasting and dinner for a good price. Just give them a call and they can set it up.

A great base to visit Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Paestum etc. 9 days wasn't long enough we will definitely return to Villa Gioconda but for longer next time.

Everything is kept very clean by the lovely caretaker Anna, she even baked a cake for our arrival.

Just perfect!

June 2016 - This is our second visit, this year for 2 weeks as a week just was not long enough. I cannot rate Villa Gioconda high enough, just perfect!

It is a beautiful villa in a wonderful non touristy location, high up on a hill overlooking the coast. Very quiet yet only 10 minutes from Agropoli town and the beautiful beach at Trentova. Villa Gioconda has everything you need, laundry facilities, dishwasher, air-conditioning, pool towels, ironing board and iron, hairdryer and bathrobes. The beds are a little firm for us but this is usual in Italy. The pool area is wonderful, lovely to cool off on the hot days, a very quiet area.

Anna [the caretaker] is wonderful! She lives a little further up the hill and is on call if any problems, does not speak much English but we got by with signs etc plus my son found an app so we could speak into his phone and it converts into Italian which helped, or just convert in words so she can read, really was not an issue or problem at all and she is such a lovely lovely lady, cooks a cake for our arrival and cleans toilets, pool, and changes beds (if there for 2 weeks) this is done most days apart from Sundays.

This is the second time we have used Summer In Italy and think your company is EXCELLENT! From start to finish the service is first class, as is the staff and the villa's. I can truly say I have not come across such fantastic customer service! I would always use Summer In Italy whenever we want to holiday in Italy again.

Travel tips

  • Do not switch on more than 2 electrical appliances in the kitchen as this will blow the electrics! [Yes, indeed -- Italian homes can use a limited amount of electricity. Turning on all the appliances and light at once, especially when there are electrical water heaters, will probably trip the circuit breakers. This is not uncommon or a flaw, it is simply the way electricity works in Italy.]
  • Another crucial tip, re Wi-Fi, if there are storms pull out the router cable, located on the table in the lounge otherwise this may blow as did when we were there and Anna had to get a new router connected.
  • Remember to try and stick to the rubbish rota which is on the wall, keeping types separate, ie glass, paper, tins and food, you need to tie up the bags and hang out on the hook located just outside the front gates on the wall, do this the evening prior.
  • Trentova beach is beautiful and only about 10 minutes away, plenty of parking and there is a lovely beach cafe called Jamaica, worth a visit. You can rent table chair and parasols.
  • The area is known for world class buffalo mozzerella farms and products and we visited 2 of these and brought many products from the onsite shops. There are many Buffalo Mozzerella Farms, Tenuta Vannulo ( Via G. Galilei, 101, 84047 Capaccio Scalo, Capaccio-Paestum ) and Caseificio Barlotti (Via Torre di Paestum, 84047 Paestum ) these are 2 of the ones we visited, the Barlotti has a wonderful cafe and views, well worth a visit.
  • Agropoli is also on the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, beautiful mountain scenery and villages, abundance of caves and waterfalls, we visited both and well worth the drive.
  • We found a small supermarket about 12 minutes from the villa called Maxi Futura (LocalitĂ  Marrota) sells all the basics and we used most of the time, there is a larger supermarket in Agropoli centre called Euro Spin about 15 minutes away (Via della LibertĂ , 84040 ) sells a bigger range of products.
  • The market is on a Thursday in Agropoli but we also went in a few times to buy fruit and vegetables from the little shops as were so cheap and such good quality.
  • Villa Gioconda is very easy to find from Naples Airport and enroute to the villa we always stop at the huge Carrefour Supermarket and stock up on groceries for the first few days. From the airport to the villa is approx 2 hours drive.
  • The villa is about an hour from Salerno where ferries go to Capri, Ischia and Procida or 2 hours to Sorrento for more crossings, we used this port as the actual crossings are a lot shorter and run more frequently than in Salerno. A bit of advice, book your ferry/hydrofoil tickets before you go, print off at home, this will avoid huge queues at the ticket office!
  • If driving to Sorrento we found a car park right at the bottom next to the port where you catch the ferries, just a few minutes walk, cost us 25 euro I think but was well worth the money as after a long day so nice just to walk straight to the car. The office is on the left and the car park on the right, you give them your keys as they move cars around as necessary but give you a ticket etc and we have used many times.
  • Amalfi is also about 2 hours drive. We have done all 3 islands over the 2 years, Capri is beautiful, have been twice, bought a Capri watch, so so busy whenever you go so be prepared for crowds. Procida smaller and pretty and not as busy and Ischia the largest about 4 times the size of Capri, too much to see in a day trip though, we hired a skipper and boat for the day and was wonderful.
  • Pompeii is about 1.5 hours drive and again we have visited twice over the 2 years as so huge was not possible in one visit, just amazing.
  • Herculanium is just less than 2 hours away and we did Mount Vesuvius the same day and well worth a walk to the top.
  • Paestum is 30 minutes away and worth a visit to the ruins plus the beaches are just beautiful, more touristy here though.
  • We found September has mosquitos whereas this year we went in June and there were none.

September 2015 - The villa was very clean and huge, the kitchen had everything you needed and more. The bedrooms had plenty of extra pillows and bedding, lovely white towels and even white towel robes too.

The pool area was clean, the pool beautiful and the views stunning. So quiet and peaceful apart from the dog next door which did bark early morning and evening but really was not an issue.

Anna, the caretaker, was such an adorable lady, baked us a cake on arrival and visited most days to sweep and clean the toilets.

We loved the area which was very untouristy and will definitely book again.

This is the first time I have booked with Summer in Italy and my whole experience has been excellent. The communication throughout was excellent. I found the website by chance and glad we booked through yourselves as cannot fault the service.

Travel tips

  • There was a shop approx 5 minutes away from the villa called Maxi Futura which had everything you needed.
  • The beach at Trentova is a must, beautiful. We hired sun shades and loungers which were 15 euros for the day and well worth the money as provided shade in the hot sun.
  • Go to Jamaica Cafe on Trentova beach, so cheap and freshly cooked food.
  • We went up to the castle in Agropoli, there is a car park now, amazing views.
  • We went to Isle of Capri, caught the ferry from Sorrento as the crossings from Salerno were reduced in September. We parked out car right next to the port at the bottom of the hill to save the long walk back up and well worth the 25 euros.
  • We went to Paestum to see the Greek temples, worth a visit and on the same day went to a Buffalo Mozzarella farm, Tenuta Vannulo, bought lots of cheese and made pizzas when we got back to the villa.

August 2015 - Staying at Villa Gioconda with the entire family, including grandchildren, was a very positive experience.

The grandchildren in particular appreciated the swimming pool, where they spent most of their time. The large outdoor dining area could accommodate us all and we could not get tired of the view of the Amalfi Coast and Capri at the far distance.

We would have no doubt in recommending the property to friends.

Anna [the caretaker] did look after us and the house in an excellent way.

As recommended by Summer In Italy, Villa Gioconda was perfect for our family. Many thanks!

Travel tips

  • Once at the property we were very pleased and less inclined to leave.
  • An excursion to Castellabate was well worth the effort to negotiate narrow streets and uphill challenges.

July 2014 - We stayed at Villa Gioconda with the extended family (8 adults, 1 child) early July 2014 and enjoyed it very much.

The facilities of the villa are beautiful and well maintained. Lovely to sit on the patio with a glass of wine and watch the sun going down. Nice view of the sea and Agropoli. I wish I was there right now.

My wife and I were sad to leave and would definitely stay again if we ever plan to travel to that part of Italy again.

Travel tips

  • Members of our group traveled from there to Pompeii, Amalfi and Paestum easily.
  • We drove to Salerno to catch ferries to the north. Parking at the harbor was easy and not too expensive.
  • If you are from a more orderly country and have never driven in Italy be prepared for a shock as many drivers are very aggressive, stop signs only mean slow/yield, double parking and wrong-way parking, even blocking one lane is common.
  • The streets in old villages are barely wide enough for two small cars so do not rent a full sized car and get a car with GPS.
  • Naples style pizza is fantastic, the seafood we enjoyed the most were mussels.
  • We also discovered a spritzy white wine that is served from bulk containers in restaurants. A great find - fruity, clean, nice palate, balanced, altogether enjoyable and remarkably inexpensive.

July 2013 - We loved this villa! The views, the terraces, the pool, the spacious kitchen, nice features - it is a fantastic place to gather together, relax, and experience southern Italy.

We liked that there is room in the kitchen for a couple of us to cook together; we used the outdoor grill twice and ate every meal on the covered terrace looking at the sunset and then the lights coming on in Agropoli.

There is room to spread out and feel like you can have your own space even while traveling with friends.

July 2013 - We stayed at the villa from 01.06-06.07.2013. It was a wonderful vacation, we enjoyed everything: the house, terrific view, terraces, pool and etc.

The housekeeper Anna is a true sincere person, always helpful and caring, wonderful cooker!

If I plan to come to this part of Italy again, I'd definitely choose this place to stay!

Summer In Italy provide some very helpful assistants. All the questions we had were solved immediately. Great pleasure to thank Melanie, who guided us from the very beginning of planning our vacation, a very professional and responsive person. She gave us many useful tips during the whole period of our stay. Next vacation in Italy I'd plan with this company, without a doubt!

Travel tips

  • A car is a must-have!
  • Try Anna's food, especially pizza and "Parmigiana di melanzane" - really delicious!
  • The nearest food-store is a 3 km away from the house, good restaurants you may find in town, almost all of them serve pretty good inexpensive food.
  • If you wish to spend a nice evening viewing the port sights and the sunset, visit La Sciabica - a very beautiful restaurant in the Agropoli port area. They serve fresh fish and seafood. The staff is very suave, otherwise they don't speak English you won't feel awkward to express yourself and they meet all your wishes in seconds.
  • Places to see: the old town of Agropoli, the port area, beaches (we've visited Trentova, Castellabate, Raggio Verde) are all picturesque, you just choose where more convenient to stay.
  • Paestum - historic sight, and a nice restaurant Nettuno.

September 2011 - Overall we had a wonderful experience at Villa Gioconda.

I must make special recognition regarding Anna, the caretaker. She was very accommodating and went "the extra mile" as far as helping us out with getting settled in. More specifically, our car rental did not go smoothly and we eventually had to take a taxi to the villa. Upon arrival, we were very tired and without any means to go food shopping. Without hesitation, Anna brought us bottles of cold water and graciously prepared us dinner that evening. In addition, her son, Enzo, took us food shopping the next day and also drove me to the bank to exchange dollars for Euros as well as driving me to the train station in Agropoli for my trip to Salerno to pick up my rental car.

Also, throughout our 3-week stay, Anna would ask us if we needed anything and was very thorough in her daily caretaking duties as well as the night we hired her to prepare us dinner. The meal was wonderful from appetizers (including pizza from the wood-burning oven)to the dessert course, and home-made wine as well.

We did not have time to express this in the house guestbook, so I would appreciate it if you would please forward these comments. Anna is truly a very special hard-working and caring lady and should be recognized as such to her employer.

We were very happy with our experience with your company and will definitely recommend you to any of our friends who are interested in traveling to Italy. We plan to return to Italy in the next year or two and will again be looking forward to using your services.

July 2011 - The trip to Italy was a celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary and our total family was present. Everyone loved it. The Villa was all that it was represented to be, very comfortable. The pool and the view of the Med. were wonderful and met all of our expectations.

Anna was wonderful and very attentive to us. Although she spoke very little English we were able to communicate. We had her make us pizza one night and it was a feast. She brought a huge bottle of wine. We celebrated 2 birthdays and Anna provided a very delicious cream filled cake. She provided various goodies throughout the week.

Summer in Italy does a great job. We booked based on the computer pictures and write up. It was exactly as pictured.

October 2010 - Along with another couple from the States, we spent a great week at the villa. It is a spectacular three level private home that is largely built of granite and marble with three levels of beautiful terraces and a very nice pool on the ground level. The villa overlooks the city of Agropoli about two miles in the distance and is close to Paestum, Salerno, the Amalfi coast to the north and charming little fishing villages south of the town.

The villa kitchen is very well equipped with a large table that could accommodate ten or twelve people. A dining room that we didn't find the need to use and a very comfortable living room with satellite TV and Internet. The two of the four bedrooms we used are large and have good baths.

The bottom floor has a large taverna with an even larger table and a wood burning oven that Anna, the caretaker, uses to make the best pizza, stuffed breads and tiramisu you'll ever have. Anna's husband shared our pizza party with us and provided the homemade wine made with grapes from ancient vineyards.

We made day trips to the above mentioned sights and usually cooked breakfast and dinner at the villa.

Just down the steep, curving road from the villa is a little square with a couple of grocery stores and a meat market. We found everything we needed there and we were treated like family at the markets.

We were traveling in late October and didn't expect warm weather so we didn't have the opportunity to use the pool but we had a wonderful time there and the off season rates were very affordable.

This agency did a wonderful job and kept in constant contact during and even after our rental business was complete making sure we evaluated our stay at the villa. We will use them when we take our next trip to Italy. With all the email correspondence between Luca and me I feel like we're old friends. They also have a nice web page and an informational letter about traveling through Italy.

Travel tips

  • Stay out of Salerno unless you really need to see this congested little city's sights (we got tied up there trying to get to Positano, Ravello. etc. and didn't see anything worth going into town for). Stay on the main highway to the Amalfi coast and forget about taking any back roads.
  • Paestum is definitely worth seeing and there is a good restaurant on site for lunch.
  • Driving the Amalfi coast can be a challenge
  • we've done it about five times and we're getting too old to do it again.
  • Go to Ravello and eat at Cumpa' Cosimo, a little local eatery off the back street left of the church. Netta is the owner and a real kick. She'll give you half of what's on the menu for free. She remembered us from a stop with our son four years ago.
  • Beware of the many small and half steps leading up and down the floors of the villa. They are all granite and not fully lit so they can be dangerous.

September 2010 - Our stay was fantastic. Anna (caretaker) was wonderful and was a great help. She was there every morning to clean the pool and arrange the loungers... Also cooked up a scoff of pizza on Wednesday evening in the large pizza oven on the bottom floor of the villa.

The villa was as much and more than we expected. Very clean and well appointed.

We would highly recommend this Villa, second to none!!!

Travel tips

  • The Villa was beautiful but take care going up the narrow road to get there. If you have been to Italy this is normal but if not approach the turns with caution could meet other vehicles.
  • The Villa as mentioned is wonderful but be very careful going up and down both sets of stairs. Go barefoot all times or shoes, not socks. The stairs would be very unforgiving.
  • We shopped at the large grocery outskirts of Agropoli. All you need is there.
  • Agropoli is not a bad little town... Find the square in the downtown area and you will have many shops to choose from. You know you have found it when you look to the Mediterranean Sea from the square and you will see steps which take you to a church and on to the castle which is visible from the villa.

July 2010 - Villa Gioconda was absolutely wonderful.

We had 10 people there (all adults) and had more than enough room. We never even used the first floor. It was a family reunion and we had a ball.

The pool and deck area were great. We were always outside.

We loved Agropoli and would come back to Villa Gioconda if we ever get the chance. The view is amazing and we would just sit outside and drink wine and soak in the view. We used the Villa as a base and we went and visited where our ancestors were from. The Villa was a little hard to find at first, but once we did then it was an easy way in and out.

Anna, the caretaker, is one of the most wonderful people we have ever met. She doesn't speak English but we had absolutely no problem communicating with her. She made us dinner the first night we were there and it was fabulous. She also helps in a pizzeria right up the hill and we ate there a couple of times and that was fabulous, too. July 2010 - Our family had a lovely time at Villa Gioconda. The location was great for visiting Paestum.

There were only seven of us in our party. The Villa had plenty of room for spreading out. The pool and outdoor areas were fabulous. The wi-fi worked great. We used the pizza oven one night. It took longer to heat up than we expected so we didn't eat until almost midnight, but it worked great (no smokiness even for the person sleeping downstairs).

The only thing to know about Villa Gioconda is that it is about a ten minute, windy drive above Agropoli. This isn't a bother most of the time (except when I forgot my sunglasses and we had to wind our way back up) and we didn't eat out in the evening (except at the pizza place in walking distance).

Summer in Italy was very professional. Everything was handled well. I am especially grateful for the help on our arrival date when we lost my elderly father at the Rome airport. The Summer In Italy staff and the owner of the villa were the only phone numbers that he had and they helped three anxious adults to locate him again.

Travel tips

  • I highly recommend a stop at Tenuta Vannulo for mozzarella. They sell out, so it is worth going earlier in the day (we got some at 10 am, but missed it when we arrived at 2 pm). The gelato there is to die for.

June 2010 - Super views in a location which i enjoyed. Everybody I met was really friendly and helpful (even though my Italian is rudimentary at best) and Anna the manageress was great.

The television didn't work very well (despite Anna's best efforts); some proper instructions would have helped. Instruction for the oven would also have helped (it seemed to take a long time to heat up), including a warning as to how hot the outside of the oven door gets!

The bathroom showers were ok but not great (lacking pressure)

These are minor issues however - I would love to return!

Travel tips

December 2009 - We had an incredible time at Villa Gioconda.

Anna [the caretaker] is a darling, generous lady and is there to make sure your needs and questions are dealt with.

The views are spectacular from every window, we got up every morning to watch the sunrise.

There's plenty of room for lounging, reading, napping and just hanging out.

Definitely a car is required. We traveled around to the surrounding towns and historical sites, and would come back to our little haven... and recalled our travels of the day.

Great kitchen for cooking and hanging around chatting while we all cooked the nights meal together. We used the fireplace in the kitchen to roast our pork loin, w/EVO and fresh rosemary, homemade gnocchi and marinara sauce, homemade Christmas pastries all prepared by Mrs. Anna. Careful for what you ask... I mentioned how nice it would be to have wood to make a fire, WHA LA, 8:00 a.m. there was Mrs. Anna with a wheel barrel filled with chopped wood.

There's a Supermercato down by the rotary as you are entering the town before Agropoli that has all you need and a wonderful cheese store on the right side about 1 mile before you enter town of Agropoli (there's a little section of stores and a cafe to the left of the cheese store). Fabulous provolone, buffalo mozzarella and pecorino, soooo worth the stop.

Thank you Andrea and staff for a lifetime memorable experience, I will certainly use Summer In Italy again. All you said was true in regards to the area, the villa and you were accessible while we were vacationing there. Summer in Italy is certainly a business to be proud of, thank you.

  • Ladies at the local grocery/supermarket were very friendly and helpful. The local produces ham where great! You should try it! The DESPAR supermarket has a better selection and is a bit cheaper, but longer drive.
  • Going to Pompeii on a hot day with children is a risk - but we did it, and survived! Very much worth the visit. We strongly reccomend to spend money on a guide. Since we have small children we avoided the weekend, and went early in the morning. We also made a special deal with the guide for an hour long guided tour (normally it takes 2 hours). Just perfect lenght for us with small children, and the parents got to see the most important parts...
  • The villa is located outside the town, and you need a car to get around. If you have a rental, it might be worth the money to pay for an extra driver - so that you don't have to depend on only one driver to get to e.g. the supermarket...

July 2009 - We all loved our stay at the villa. The views and the pool were extraordinary and we would definitely come back.

The bedrooms were very nice too and everything was neat and clean. We did have trouble with the coffee pot though. It was real slow.

Anna was gracious and very helpful. She made us a wonderful dinner one night.

Travel tips

  • Agropoli was delightful, the people treated us like royalty when they found out we were Americans. The castle at the top of Agropoli was enchanting and fun to hike up to.
  • We loved Paestum the ruins and the restaurant nearby was great.
  • We found a nice beach near the villa, Trentova beach, only about 3 miles. You don't have to drive through town to get there.

June 2009 - How do you describe heaven? Now I know why F Scott Fitzgerald said the rich are different than you and I. There is no way I could have envisioned how spectacular it really is.

I thought this was a "once in a lifetime" experience but I am so in love with this place that I have to come back.

5 stars and 2 thumbs up.

May 2009 - Excellent, beautiful surroundings, exactly as pictured.

A lovely place, thank you

Travel tips

  • Pompeii is two hours away, best to leave really early, we got there at nine.
  • Worth getting Anna to cook you pizzas -- very good!
  • Pizzeria up the road was only open on the Saturday during our stay, we went on our arrival - wonderful! [Yes, the pizzeria up the road is open every night in July and August, and only on Saturday and Sunday during the other months.]

May 2009 - Villa Gioconda is a beautiful villa. It has everything you need for a perfect holiday. Very spacious and clean.

We booked it for my husbands 60th birthday and had a fabulous time with all the family. There were eight adults and 3 small children and we had plenty of room, the bedroom are large and the living area inside is spacious also the area outside and around the pool is plenty.

Travel tips

  • The local bakers is very good and there is a fresh fruit and veg market in the town everyday except Monday. The weekly market comes to town on a Thursday and is good fun!
  • The Qui supermarket just on the way out of town to the south is very reasonable to stock up on essentials and the Eurospar is excellent although rather more expensive.
  • We loved the beach at Santa Maria Castellabate, really safe and clean. Paestum is worth a visit.
  • Anna, who looks after the property will cook pizza for you in the special oven in the tavernetta below... fantastic!

Travel tips

  • A day-trip to Pompeii is a must!
  • The Amalfi coast is beautiful but very expensive. We enjoyed several fantastic meals at local restaurants, but the lunch in Amalfi was poor quality and extremely expensive. The local buffalo mozzarella is fantastic!
  • The beach in Agropoli was not very nice, but a few kilometers north it was much better.

October 2008 - Villa Gioconda is excellent in all areas and very spacious.

The hot water pressure is bit low, but then I am rating the Villa Gioconda as a 3/4 star hotel. Which in most aspects it is maintained and the facilities are kept to this standard.

I would definitely book another holiday villa via Summer in Italy and have already recommended Villa Gioconda to friends.

  • Having a car is imperative.

July 2008 - Our stay at Villa Gioconda was a memorable experience that we will never forget. There were eight in our party and we were all impressed with the beauty of the Villa.

The interior of the Villa was furnished in good taste. Everyone was more than satisfied with their bedroom and bath. The kitchen was spacious and efficient for cooking. When we ate at the Villa we had breakfast in the kitchen and dined al fresco for lunch and dinner.

The views from the terraces were breathtaking. We could see Agropoli, the Tyrrhenian Sea, grape vineyards, olive groves and fig trees.

The pool was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Anna, the caretaker of the Villa, was available at our beckoned call. We hired her to cook dinner for us one night and she provided an excellent meal.

We would recommend Villa Gioconda to anyone that wants to embrace the culture of Italy in such beautiful surroundings.

Your staff was very accommodating answering all of our e-mails. While at the villa our phone calls to you with questions were all answered. We would recommend Summer in Italy to anyone.

Travel tips

  • Night life at Agropoli
  • Take train from Agropoli to Salerno
  • Ferry to Positano and Amalfi
  • Take train from Agropoli to Pompeii.

June 2008 - We had a wonderful time with our family from Australia and England at Villa Gioconda in June 2008 for our Ruby wedding.

The pool was wonderful and the whole villa was delightful. Only very small niggle and it was very minor, the shower heads didn't stay up on the poles but I think that was the only minor fault in a wonderful week. The terrace was wonderful and it was great to have bar-b-ques on the lovely balmy evenings.

Anna, the caretaker, was very helpful and even provided toys for our grandchildren.

I was congratulated over and over again for finding the villa. The 4 bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent as we were 8 adults and 3 very small children.

Great help and everything worked very well.

If we are returning to Italy we would certainly look at your website. Everything was as described on your website. Shame you can't run Naples airport, the only downside in the whole trip.

Travel tips

  • Although this villa is about 15 mins outside Agropoli it is Italy where the Italians go on holiday. Unlike Sorrento and Amalfi the prices are reasonable and we never felt anyone was trying to rip us off.
  • The restauranteers and shopkeepers were very helpful, but we never fund the tourist information, does it exist?
  • Local produce great from the morning market.
  • Santa Maria di Castellabate was close over the back roads and we had great evening meals there.
  • Paestum was well worth a visit with great hotels where some of our party stayed for a couple of days after leaving the villa.

April 2008 - Villa Gioconda was much more than we had even imagined. It is a beautiful villa with an outstanding view of the Gulf of Salerno and the city of Agropoli.

There were 8 in our party and we were all very comfortable and had plenty of room for privacy. We didn't even use the rooms that were pool level. The pool was lovely and clean.

Anna, who takes care of the villa, was very nice and accommodating. She brought fresh eggs and lemons, and also clean towels. She did not speak English, but somehow we were able to communicate with her.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Gioconda, and would love to stay there again if we had the opportunity.

Travel tips

  • We really enjoyed the short drive into Agropoli for shopping. It is a much larger city than we expected. There was a farmers market open daily that had reasonable prices on fruits and vegetables. The marina and pier are a must to see as well as the old town.
  • We also enjoyed visiting the small coastal towns that were nearby.
  • The ruins of Paestum, Herculaneum, and Pompeii were an easy drive away.

October 2007 - This is a great Villa for family holidays.

We had a great holiday.

The service was very good. We booked with you because you appeared on our Google search, with many others, and we liked this property.

Travel tips

  • Make sure you get Anna [the caretaker] to cook you pizzas.
  • A car is essential! We had a car, but were still surprised how far out of Agropoli the villa was [5 km/3 miles]. It made for breathtaking views though. Well worth it.

March 2007 - We loved Villa Gioconda, the location is perfect with far reaching views across to Capri and the Amalfi Coastline.

The villa is in a peaceful location which is very private. It is a 5 minute walk from an excellent pizzeria/bar which opens weekends out of season and full time in the high season. The town of Agropoli is only a couple of miles away and the old town is a treat.

The villa is approx. 1 hour 30 mins from Naples airport and a good hour from the Amalfi coastline. It is such a beautiful part of Italy, there is so much to see.

The villa is finished to a very high standard and is a real gem. It is definitely a treat to spend a week at the Villa Gioconda.

Travel tips

  • If travelling out of season be sure to pack winter woollies!
  • Villa Gioconda is an ideal place to relax and unwind and truly sample the delights of Southern Italy.

October 2006 - Perched on a hill above Agropoli, we spent a week at Villa Gioconda entranced by the views from the many terraces. Each morning our merry party woke and wandered to the front patio with coffee where we woke slowly while looking at the Gulf of Salerno. Evenings we all again gathered together with glasses of wine to admire the sunset over the same Gulf. It was a calming spot and thoroughly pleasant.

We occupied three of the four bedrooms. Newly furnished and readied, this villa sparkled and the furnishings were all beautiful. A lot of detail was put into this house: good quality cookware and tableware in the kitchen; fluffy robes and high quality towels in all the bedrooms and baths; luxurious bedding. They provided us with a welcome basket of wine, olive oil, biscotti and other delectables, as well as a beautiful arrangement of fresh sweet basil. We felt very pampered.

The house is actually a villa and is large. A sizeable living room and separate dining room, a huge and functional kitchen with a fireplace, the four bedrooms and baths, and an enormous taverna downstairs with a table to seat about 20 people as well as a wood-burning pizza oven and full kitchen, this would be a great house for a family reunion or party. And the views, as already mentioned, made our stay here utterly fantastic!

There is a small pizzeria next door but no noise from it and the pizzas are not only delicious but very cheap. The house is reached in about 10 minutes from Agropoli on a narrow, winding road. A vineyard lies directly in front and an olive grove next to that, and there are also horses belonging to a neighbor that we were told we'd be able to arrange for rides if we'd desired. Paestum is easily seen from here, the resort towns of Santa Maria di Castellabate and other areas of the Cilento Park are easily accessible in this region.

Travel tips

  • Near Paestum are the many mozzarella di bufala producers where one can purchase the cheese as well as see it being made.
  • The nearby pizzeria is open on week-ends during the slow season, don't miss the pizza there on Saturday or Sunday night.
  • Restaurant King's, just a couple of minutes down the road, is good and inexpensive, too.
