PHENOMENAL stay!
June 2024 - The hosts were so very gracious and hospitable... The villa was immaculate. The space was PERFECT for our needs - family of 5 with adult children - 3 full bathrooms - fantastic water pressure and comfortable beds!!!
The location SUPERB - about 30 steps up to one street and more down to next, but that's how the entire town is - just be ready for MANY steps throughout but then you can eat what you want! Overall, this location was walk-able to everything we wanted to do within Positano like shopping and restaurants and beach. The VIEWS... Were absolutely breathtaking - 4 terraces that we couldn't get enough of! Even one of the bathrooms had a view to die for! HIGHLY recommend - we cannot wait to go back!
Yes, I will book again! Not cheap, but for our needs this vacation where we pulled out all the stops, it was well worth it!
Travel tips
- Restaurants we loved: Restaurant Mediterraneo, Restaurant Next2, Casa e Bottega for breakfast was AMAZING, Café Posides - incredible for breakfast too, Restaurant Il Ritrovo for cooking class.

It was everything we were looking for and more!
September 2023 - We loved our stay at Villa Giancarlo - it was everything we were looking for and more! The location was great and it was perfect for our group of 6 people.
The host was available for any questions or needs we had.
I highly recommend Summer In Italy for anyone planning a vacation - They were extremely helpful, provide amazing properties and answered all of my questions or concerns. They also referred me to an amazing travel agent who helped me to coordinate all of our excursions including transportation - everything went extremely smooth and exceeded our expectations!! Luca and his staff are wonderful to work with!! Can’t say enough about them - I could not have planned this trip without their expertise!! I have stayed at 2 of their properties in Positano and both were amazing!! I will definitely be using them again in the future!!
Travel tips
- There were several nearby shops and excellent restaurants!
- We did day trips everyday including Capri, Pompeii, Amalfi, Ravello, Tramonti and Sorrento.
- Also recommend going in September - not as crowded and weather was great.

We loved the villa and the amenities offered
July 2023 - The kitchen was well stocked with what we needed to make our breakfasts and our afternoon charcuterie and cheese plates. The villa is closely located to a number of small stores and restaurants. Having 3 full baths was an added benefit for our larger party.
Travel tips
- Really enjoyed going on great walks and yes, even the steps/stairs!
- There's plenty of restaurants in the area and great wine stores as well as a grocery store within a 5 minute walk.
- We enjoyed visiting these locations and made our own breakfast and lunches often sitting on the terrace to eat and enjoy the view.

Just perfect
June 2023 - Villa Giancarlo was GORGEOUS! Lots of space for 7 of us. Beautifully appointed with all the modern conveniences we needed.
The manager (during our stay) and Summer in Italy (before our stay) were both fantastic for information and if we had any questions during our stay. We will stay at Villa Giancarlo again without question.
Summer in Italy had a wonderful selection of villas to choose from. Super responsive and answered all questions imaginable. Great service! Thank you!
Travel tips
- There are restaurants/grocery close to the villa so there is no need to go all the way to the main beach below if you don't want to.
- The local bus will run the one-way loop but can vary with time/schedule. If you are on a time schedule then take a taxi.
- The views are beautiful from everywhere and the larger outdoor space is fantastic.

The villa and location were perfect!
April 2023 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The villa and location were perfect! Just wish we could have stayed longer! The villa had very easy access (not too many steps).
Working with Summer In Italy was a wonderful experience, they were so helpful and responded very quickly to all of my questions and gave superior support. Summer In Italy could not have been better to work with. We had rented a villa from them during COVID and they were so nice and easy to work with in getting us booked back into a villa once it was over. They went above and beyond helping with questions such as directions, buses, car service, etc. I would definitely use them again.
Travel tips
- The buses are the best for getting around and easy to use. There are local buses for Positano and "big" buses for trips to other parts of the coast.

We would highly recommend others to stay.

Perfect location in Positano
August 2022 - This villa was the perfect location. Newly updated and handled the summer heat beautifully. All the other spaces were beautiful for our family of 7 to include 2 children.
Pricing with Summer in Italy was better than going with places like AirBNB and VRBO. It was very easy to book and communicate with. Check-in and information leading up to the visit was great. Would use this site again and recommend it for future travelers.

If you do any type of aerial/drone photography the large deck provides a great take off and landing zone.

We would definitely recommend the villa and hope to come back again one day
July 2022 - Our family of 5 had a wonderful time at the villa. The space was great to stretch out and relax when we needed it too. The views and several different balcony's was beautiful. The kitchen was a great size to prepare meals, but we just used it for quick breakfasts and snacking.
In order to get to everything in Positano, be prepared to climb. In the evenings on our way back from dinner, we would walk up the road versus the stairs due to the extreme July heat. It was a lovely way to look around and see the shops, cafes and restaurants.
We would definitely recommend the villa and hope to come back again one day.
Thank you again and Maria was great to work with at check in.
Summer In Italy was wonderful to work with and Luca was very helpful. They provided a great list of vendors to use in the area as well.
Travel tips
- There is a washing machine and drying rack in the unit. There was also a hand written sheet with the translation of certain washing machine words. It would have been helpful to have a cheat sheet in English of what to press or move the dials to for a basic load of laundry. When we were in a different city, they had the guide book, so it was a bit easier to translate which symbol on the machine meant what function. Regardless, this was minor and we managed to get a few loads washed without any problems. [Yes, indeed -- future guests, at the check-in, if you have any doubts, feel free to ask how appliances work. Your questions are more than welcome!]

Wow! It takes your breath away as soon as you walk in. Stunning villa...
June 2022 - Stunning villa... We were lucky to call home for a week.
Perfectly located only 15 or so steps from a main road. Bus stop at the top of those steps to take you down to the beach and shops if you don't want to walk to the stairs. Minutes from great restaurants overlooking the beautiful sea.
We loved the terraces, where we would hang out, enjoy a cocktail and take in the beautiful views. Great views from every terrace, big size, great AC units and the best view from any master bathroom I've ever seen! Grazie Mille... You exceeded all expectations!
Maria checked us in and was VERY helpful in suggesting restaurants, booking us car service back to Naples airport and anything else we needed. Top notch service by Maria and Giancarlo. Thank you! Wonderful vacation. Beautiful home, 5 stars!
Summer In Italy is a great company, great communication and no surprises. Flawless execution!

If you want the best place in town, you can’t beat this villa!
May 2022 - We have loved this villa for a long time. The villa is absolutely beautiful inside and outside with the terraces with sweeping views of the sea.
Positano is a loud, crowded town due to so many things like the beauty and the food. This area is away from the busiest part of town and has access to a less crowded, nicer beach (although it’s still about a half mile of steps… Which is good for you if you can do it).
The owner is very attentive to every need and even calls on friends to make sure you have the best time at one of his favorite restaurants.
Summer In Italy has been professional in every way since we first used them 10 years ago.
Travel tips
- There are several very good restaurants on the street just below the villa, one with a Michelin star.
- There is the “Interno Positano” bus, which you can catch just a few steps from the villa. Buy tickets in the tabacchini shops or pay a little more on the bus. This will take you into the main part of town and back. It runs every half hour.
- The only complaint is that Positano is a loud, crowded town, even now in the “shoulder” season. If you’ve never been there, go and if you want the best place in town, you can’t beat this villa!

The house is like new, and spotless. The views are simply spectacular
September 2019 - We were a group of 6 that had the pleasure of staying at Villa Giancarlo for 5 nights in mid-September.
The house is like new, and spotless. The views are simply spectacular and we enjoyed sitting out on the terrace every morning with our coffee. It was quite warm while we were there, but there was AC, so we stayed nice and cool. The beds were very comfortable, and my son, who slept on the pull-out couch had no complaints! Everyone had their own bathroom, which was ideal.
We ate out for all our meals, but the kitchen seemed to have everything you might need to prepare your own meals. We usually ran out to get a cappuccino up the street. We stayed nearby for dinner and there are lots of great restaurants to choose from within walking distance. After hiking up and down the streets and stairs of Positano all day, we didn't feel like venturing back down to the beach-side restaurants!
The house is fairly high up on the hill from the beach area, but we liked being away from the crowds. It seemed like the closer you got to the beach, the more touristy things became, with crowds to match.
This has to be one of the nicest rentals in Positano. There are many beautiful hotels, too, but if you are traveling with a group, don't hesitate to book Villa Giancarlo. We had such a wonderful time; it was hard to leave those amazing views!
We were greeted by Giancarlo's mother, Rosetta, who was so sweet and welcoming after a long day of traveling. We would definitely book again if we ever return to Positano. Thanks!
I was very impressed with Summer In Italy service and would highly recommend them. Their service was top-notch. Luca and the whole staff were so helpful, friendly and accommodating. They always responded quickly to whatever question I might have, before and during our trip (taking into account the time difference, of course). We hope to travel to Italy again someday, so now that I have your number, I will be sure to contact you! :) Thanks again! You're the best!
Travel tips
- We used the limo service that many previous reviewers recommended: Renato Cuomo. Their driver "Peppe" picked us up at the Naples train station. He was great and pointed out interesting sights along the way. We took a little side tour, on the way from Naples, to visit Herculaneum on the way south. Peppe stayed with the van to be sure our luggage would be safe. We were anxious to get to Positano, so we didn't stay at Herculaneum as long as we would have liked, but it was well worth the stop, and not that crowded (compared to what we have heard of Pompeii.) Once we were back on the road, Peppe called Giancarlo to let him know our arrival time.
- Be prepared to walk up and down lots, and lots of stairs. And then some more! Even though there are "shortcut" stairways up and down, we found it easier to walk along the roadway. That way, you can always stop into a shop for a little bit of AC along the way!
- We ate dinner at Restaurant Villa Gabrisa two times, because it is literally just above the house: walk up your stairs, and you're there! They have lovely outdoor seating, and the food was delicious. The waiters were all very friendly.
- It was my son's birthday while we were there, so we had a celebration dinner at a very unique and beautiful restaurant: Luna at Villa Magia. If you have a special occasion, or want a romantic dinner for two, check into this restaurant. It was a night we'll always remember.
- We also had a wonderful lunch at Restaurant Al Palazzo, which is a beautiful garden restaurant outside the Palazzo Murat Hotel, and took a shuttle over to the Treville Beach Club for lunch one day. It sits right next to Da Adolfo, another famous beach club restaurant.
- We had plans to go to Restaurant Next2 for dinner, but we had such a big lunch that day, that we couldn't manage another meal.
- All the beach club shuttles and ferries (to other towns along the Amalfi Coast and to Capri) leave from one main pier in Positano. It can be very busy and crowded with people coming and going from the boats.
- We took an afternoon ferry to Amalfi one day, and from there, took a taxi up to Ravello. Such a beautiful town! Worth a visit.
- We also rented a boat for the day for a tour around Capri. We booked through Lucibello and had a wonderful day out on the water. Our captain was Giovanni, whom we would highly recommend. He took us directly to Capri, where we spent a couple hours in town, then came back to the boat for a tour around the island. We stopped for two swims off the boat, had snacks and drinks, and he even extended our tour a little longer, so we would be sure to see all there was to see. Giovanni had also offered a chance for a late lunch in the seaside town of Nerano, on the way back, but we stayed a little too long in town on Capri, so didn't have time. This was such a relaxing day, after all the sightseeing we had been doing the previous week. I would highly recommend, if you can.
- We booked the same limo company to pick us up for our return to Naples, and had another driver who was equally nice. We had an early morning departure and he was there right on time and helped us with our luggage.

We had a glorious stay
August 2019 - We had a glorious stay at the villa. It had everything we wanted - including the luxury of air conditioning! Everything was spotlessly clean.
The kitchen and bathrooms had all of the conveniences. The third bedroom is very small and the only one without a balcony but it worked out ok. The views from the terraces were awesome.
We would recommend this to friends without hesitation. It was perfect!

Travel tips

- We enjoyed Restaurant La Tagliata - family restaurant up the hill in next village. They collect you on their bus and return you. We didn't catch the shuttle bus up/down the hill. Travel tips
- There are several shops and cafes within walking distance.
- We did frequently visit hotel across the street for breakfast, buffet 14 euro.
- If you not want to climb stairs to and from main beach area, the bus is right outside your house for 1.80 euro.

The owner and staff met us on arrival, even arranged a pick up at the airport in Naples, they went beyond normal and helped us with our luggage. The staff made a reservation in one of the best restaurants in Positano for our family the day of our arrival.
The villa worked perfect for my wife and me and our two children . They even arranged through their contacts boat tours, just call the number left by the owner and mention where your staying, the red carpet is rolled out for you with champagne. Highly recommend this villa.

Beautiful property, well appointed with all the basic items you need for a comfortable stay
May 2019 - We very much enjoyed our stay in Villa Giancarlo... It is a beautiful property, well appointed with all the basic items you need for a comfortable stay. It is very clean and spacious and all the furnishings are modern and up to date. The view from the villa is amazing and breathtaking...
There are separate balconies, each accessible from different rooms in the house which made the space feel a little choppy but the largest terrace off the second living room is spacious with table and chairs, perfect for aperitivo while watching the beautiful sea.
One thing to be aware is that the house is on the west side of Positano bay so you will not see the full span of Positano coast. There are 20 steps from the upper road to the front door of the villa. 100+ if you take the shortcut to the lower side of that same road to walk into town, so be prepared to do some stair climbing.
Summer In Italy was easy to work with, communication was smooth and prompt and provided us with helpful tips.
Travel tips

- - Nanà for custom made sandals. Great selection, customization and customer service.

The house was absolutely spectacular and very clean
May 2019 - The house was absolutely spectacular and very clean. There were four of us, adults traveling together, and we all had our own bedrooms, bathrooms and terraces, with plenty of room to spread out.
The kitchen was well stocked and the water pressure in the bathrooms was perfect. The beds were extremely comfortable and lots of towels and linens were available to us. This home was top notch and so convenient to restaurants and bakeries.
We appreciated the owner's welcome basket of fruit which came in handy after a long 24 hours of travel.
The staff of Summer In Italy are amazing and attentive. They were easy to communicate with and I really enjoyed receiving their newsletters each month prior to our trip. A glorious respite in Positano
April 2019 - Villa Giancarlo is a glorious respite in Positano. There is ample space and the different terraces allow for both group gatherings and private moments. The villa is beautifully decorated with stylish and comfortable furniture, original artwork, and fragrant plants (jasmine!). There were lemon trees with ripe fruit for the picking.
Our stay was easeful and enjoyable thanks to them. Next time, I'll stay for longer!
Giancarlo and Rosetta [the owner] were attentive and responsive hosts.
Summer In Italy did an excellent job. They were in communication with us often prior to the trip and followed up afterward. They instilled confidence that our stay would go smoothly. And it did.
Travel tips

What a spectacular place to call home for a visit to Positano!
April 2019 - What a spectacular place to call home for a visit to Positano! The home is very well appointed, lacking nearly nothing and if you needed it, all you had to do was ask and it would appear!
All of the furnishings are comfortable and clean and there was plenty of space for the 7 of us to enjoy each other’s company or find a quiet place to retreat. Although the villa’s location involves lots of stairs to the beach and main shopping areas, we viewed that was a good thing because we walked off our pasta and other delicious foods.
It was very easy to book Villa Giancarlo, the follow-up prior to arrival was outstanding, and to be greeted by Giancarlo himself [the owner] was very comforting as you knew you were in great hands.
Summer In Italy will be my “go to” site for booking villas and places to stay in Italy. My contact Luca made it very easy and worked with me the entire way. He not only helped me pick the best villa for my family, he also gave me wonderful advice on things to do in the area and where we might like to spend our time since we were coming early in the season (April - which is nice and quiet and beautiful).
Travel tips
- There are wonderful stores, restaurants, coffee shops and bakeries right near the villa.
- We visited Restaurant Villa Gabrisa for wine and a wonderful shop nearby for the best homemade meatballs, cheese and bread.
- We really enjoyed dinner just down from the villa at Restaurant Da Vincenzo, and they have a beautiful linen shop!
- The pretty hotel across from the villa has the nicest people! We did a pizza making experience (fantastic!) with Positano Pizza in Montepertuso and the hotel staff kindly directed us to the local bus stop and saved us lots of euros in taxi fare. The elderly gentleman nearly walked us the entire way to make sure we knew where to go and he made it soo easy.
- Public bus transportation is wonderful.
- We hiked the Path of the Gods, starting from the bottom just outside of Positano. Would recommend starting from the top near Montepertuso instead.

Exceeded our expectations and more than met our requirements
October 2018 - Villa Giancarlo exceeded our expectations and more than met our requirements. On the other hand, considering the cost, we would have been disappointed if it was not so. Overall we are glad we stayed there.
Summer In Italy's service was very efficient and they were always ready and available to answer any questions in a friendly manner. I would definitely recommend them as a holiday rental agency.
Travel tips
- We primarily self-catered and it was easier than we had anticipated to buy suitable supplies, though the actual shops buying them were not large. There was one such shop a few minutes further up the main road from the house, and one larger one down in the town centre, near the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
- The choice of restaurants was very good and, though we did not often eat out, we liked the Restaurant Saraceno d'Oro, which is a few minutes walk further down the main road towards the town.
- The local bus that regularly does a circuit, beginning at the Piazza dei Mulini, at the town centre, was excellent for the uphill journey back to the house and there is a stop right outside.

August 2018 - Exceptional! This property is the perfect stay in Positano. Very clean and the private patio with outside table is unbeatable.
The owners were very nice and there to answer any questions you may have to help you explore Positano.
Only about a dozen steps down from street level which for Positano is great when it comes to getting your luggage in and out with ease.

Our family very much enjoyed our stay
August 2018 - Our family very much enjoyed our stay at beautiful Villa Giancarlo. The view from the terrace and balconies was spectacular and the location was excellent — close to small neighborhood shops and restaurants and walking distance to the heart of Positano. Villa Giancarlo is very well-maintained and the recent renovations to the property are impressive.
We booked Villa Giancarlo through Summer In Italy. Luca was our Summer In Italy contact. He was exceptionally helpful and provided much useful information regarding our stay.

July 2018 - We had a wonderful visit to Villa Giancarlo! It is a beautiful house, and my family of 6 found it to be very roomy and comfortable. The views are simply awesome, and we found the location to be perfect.
Giancarlo and his mom [the owners] made sure that our stay was memorable, and we can't wait to return someday! Everything was great!
Summer In Italy was so responsive to any questions we had, We used them based on our friends recommendation a few years ago, and they definitely lived up to our expectations! Wonderful service and communication. Thank you for helping to make our first trip to Italy so memorable!

The perfect home base for our time on the Amalfi Coast!
July 2018 - Located in a tranquil part of Positano, near grocery, restaurants and with easy access to the beach, Villa Giancarlo is an oasis in an already idyllic town. Spacious enough to welcome a family, with enough separation of space to allow individuals to pursue different activities, it was the perfect home base for our time on the Amalfi Coast!
Very convenient, a wonderful property, and very service-oriented.
Travel tips
- Definitely dine at the Restaurant Villa Gabrisa. It’s location just above the villa may make you feel like you aren’t trying hard enough to explore - this is a gem worthy of a destination and serendipitously it’s at your door!
- I would also venture up to the Sentieri (paths) to climb high above Positano. You will get more of a local feel and be rewarded with an incredible vista over the sea.
- Don’t miss Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, an easy day trip from the villa.

Pure pleasure!
April 2018 - Staying at Villa Giancarlo was pure pleasure! Everything in the house — decor, electrical, lighting, bathroom fixtures — is only roughly a year old, so plenty of outlets, excellent condition (very modern), great beds and nice linens, and spotlessly clean. The main terrace (there are four!) was the perfect place to relax together before and after some very active days, with its breathtaking view of the town below and the sea beyond. We would most definitely stay at Villa Giancarlo again and will recommend it to all of our traveling friends.
Our host, Giancarlo, could not have been more helpful, welcoming, and responsive, even to assisting us with getting heavy bags down (and up) the 30 stairs between the street and the house. Requests for help with the coffeemaker and, later, the WI-FI, were dealt with immediately and smilingly.
It was a pleasure doing business with Summer In Italy. Very organized, excellent communication, and lots of helpful information provided.
Travel tips
- The local bus stopped right at the top of the stairs, and two markets within a couple of blocks made it easy to pick up essentials.
- Bring your own toiletries (soap/shower gel, shampoo, etc.) or buy them there.
- When using the Italian coffeemaker on the stove top, make sure it’s centered on the burner or it won’t work (it’s a little small for the induction thingies to make full contact).

I found Summer In Italy on line... Your service has been outstanding. I will definitely recommend and book with you again. You made me feel comfortable and answered every email promptly.
Travel tips
- We hired Cuomo Limo to pick us up in Rome and drive us to Villa Giancarlo and they were excellent. We hired them again for a day trip to Pompeii and Naples. Our driver Peppe was great and made us feel relaxed. We hired him again to take us to the Naples train station upon check out.
- There is a little deli/shop just up Via Pasitea where we purchased charcuterie, cheese, bread, wine, olive oil and balsamic. The owner was very helpful.
- We enjoyed dinners down by the beach at Le Tre Sorelle, La Cambusa, Chez Black and just down the steps from the villa and to the right was Ristorante Mediterraneo. All were delicious and offered great service!

Very beautiful terraces with plenty of seating
July 2017 - The villa itself was beautiful, as shown in the pictures, however it was the attention and service provided by Giancarlo and his mother [the owners] that made our stay 5+ stars. For example, Giancarlo was able to book some transportation around the coast for us. The washer was broken and Giancarlo mother offered to do our wash for us until a brand new machine was installed (the next day) just a few examples. The walk to the beach was long and up many stairs, but this is Positano!! Very beautiful terraces with plenty of seating.
I really had a great experience dealing with Sumner In Italy and with the villa owners. The recommendations I have are trivial when compared to our entire experience and vacation. Could not have been easier or more pleasant!! Thank you for an unforgettable vacation.
Travel tips
- A day trip to Capri was wonderful. We hired a private boat before our trip.
- The Amalfi Musical was fantastic and not to be missed. We took the SITA bus to Amalfi and a private car back.
- Try to barter with shop owners and vendors. Often a deal can be struck.
- Gargiulo wine and cheese shop great for breakfast pastry and a nice sandwich for lunch. Also good for very limited groceries - go up the stairs to the road, turn right and a 3 minute walk. It is on the left side of the road.
- Our favorite restaurant: Saraceno d'Oro. Good inexpensive (by Positano standards) food. Great service and involved owners. Go down the stairs to the street and take a right. It is about a 3 minute walk and the restaurant is on the right, seating is on both sides of the road. We ate there 3 times during our week in Positano.

I would definitely recommend Villa Giancarlo without hesitation
May 2017 - I would definitely recommend Villa Giancarlo without hesitation. The accommodation has been recently updated to a very high standard and is extremely comfortable with everything you could wish for. We enjoyed using the four (yes 4!) separate balconies all with fantastic sea views. The villa is at the higher end of Positano so you need to put your walking shoes on to go down into the lower end of the town, but its great exercise with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants on the way down the hill.
We found Summer In Italy by browsing the Internet and as they had such great reviews we decided to book with them. Luca and his team are fantastic and keep you informed every step of the way, even sending regular newsletters with lots of useful information. We hope to visit Italy again and will definitely book with Summer In Italy.
Travel tips
- If you don't fancy walking into town there is a bus stop directly outside the house.
- There are lots of lovely restaurants close by and we particularly enjoyed eating at Hotel Villa Gabrisa (just across the road), the staff were so welcoming and friendly.

The location is very good as well, central but not in the very busy tourist area down near the beach. We personally loved being there for 2 weeks and meeting all the locals.
Giancarlo [the owner] made us feel welcome upon arrival and even helped us to set up dinner reservations for our first night. Well done Giancarlo, and thank you for letting out your lovely villa.
I would highly recommend Villa Giancarlo, the owner and Summer In Italy! Thank you so very, much!
I give Summer In Italy my highest recommendation. Great communication from Luca and all. Very smooth transaction. Everything was as represented. Would use again in a heart beat. Thanks!
Travel tips
- Bus down to the beach is super convenient at the top of the steps (buy tickets from the driver). When returning back from the beach avoid peak times... Bus is not fun at all when too busy.
- Local market, go down the stairs and walk the main road for quite a bit. It's on the right. They also deliver if you buy enough.
- Next 2 is the best closest restaurant. Make a reservation.
- Restaurant Mediterraneo is very fun too!
- You can buy wine and spirits from Enzo at Art and Wine next door.
- Restaurant at Hotel Franca - up the stairs and up the hill - is great, fine dining with views.
- Down near the beach, Restaurant Max one of the best we ate at.
- At the Marina Grande Beach, Chez Black, service is a bit flip but the food is great. Muscles, clams and pizza. :)
- Restaurant Da Vincenzo is also a great restaurant down the steps from the villa on the main road to the beach.
- This is a MUST - from the Molo Grande in Positano take the water taxi with the red fish to Restaurant Da Adolfo. It was surprising fabulous right on the beach. Make a reservation for lunch and a lounge chair.
- Try Blue Star at the main beach for a 12 people boat trip with captain to Capri.
- Ferry over to Amalfi... well worth it.
- Definitely a ton of stairs and a lot of walking in Positano, so be prepared for that.
- We flew into Naples and took a transfer to the villa by Amalfi Car. They did a great job with all transfers - 90 EUR each way.
- We also went to Florence and Rome afterwards by train.
- Best vacation we ever had!!! You will love it if you are not sure.

April 2014 - Villa Giancarlo was excellent. It is so spacious, clean and has everything we needed during our week long stay. The veranda is wonderful and the view spectacular.
Very quiet location, with restaurants, grocery stores, bus stop etc. All very close. Even better, there is only about 20 steps down from road to the entrance of the Villa.
Giancarlo [the owner] and his lovely mother were very helpful and available to answer any questions we had.
I wish we could have stayed longer, I rate this accommodation very highly. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

April 2014 - Loved Villa Giancarlo. Not too many stairs to get into town. Central to the main shopping area and restaurants. Close to bus stops to go to Amalfi and Sorento.
Views were priceless, even on a rainy day.
The villa was extremely clean, spacious, functional.
I would recommend this villa to families or small groups.
Thank you for being patient with all the questions and for guiding us with your professionalism.
Travel tips
- There is a supermarket at top shops near bus stop that sells loads of gluten free food for those seeking it. Restaurants cater to gluten free needs and meals overall were great. Lovely spot to eat, Saraceno D'Oro.
- If you get car sick on bendy roads I highly recommend travel sick tablets if you plan to go to either Amalfi or Sorrento.
- If you are traveling in a small group or family, it is easier to organize a maxi taxi to collect you from the airport and take you to the villa. Call Summer In Italy for suggestions.
- Vesuvio, Ercolano, Pompeii are all easy to get to as well as Ravello, Amalfi, etc.
- You will not be disappointed here.

September 2013 - We enjoyed our stay at Villa Giancarlo. Excellent view!!!
The Villa was roomy, clean and comfortable. I really did enjoy the place, but the kitchen needs some attention. It was very dark. Also, unfortunately, the dogs and garbage trucks were very loud, making sleep rather difficult.
The property owner was respectful and curteous. Thank you.
You guys rock!! Thanks for answering all my questions. I really appreciate your patience.
Travel tips
- Beware of steps. The description of the property says 12 steps to Villa that is true from above, which is helpful when arriving with luggage. As you walk through the town, you will encounter many steep steps. This was not a problem for me, but it may be for others.

Travel tips
- Just be aware there are a lot of stairs to get down to the beach but you can also follow the road down and it does not take that long plus you pass all the cute shops! The villa is not bad with luggage because there is only one set of stairs when you go up to the street where the bus stop is or where a taxi can drop you off.

June 2013 - This is a wonderful villa if you want to stay on the quiet side of town. If you want to go to town, you just need to master the internal bus, which is inexpensive and runs every half hour. Go to the street below and buy tickets from the tobacco shop.
It's a serious climb down and up steps to the beach (and again, it's not the central beach, but we prefer the quiet one west of town anyway). There are good casual restaurants there, and it's away from the crush of tourists in central Positano. There are some nice restaurants right near the villa, too. But nothing beats cooking with fresh ingredients bought up the street and eating outside on the main terrace.
Travel tips
- If you want to do the tourist sights, stay at a villa closer to the center of town. If you want to chill and feel like an Italian, stay here.
- The wine shop below the villa has a very nice and helpful owner. The grocery store uphill is well-stocked with everything you need.

June 2012 - We loved Villa Giancarlo.
It's a bit far from town, but we liked being out of the main crowd of tourists. And there is a bus stop just above the villa that you can ride into town and back. We also loved the smaller, less crowded beach down below our villa.
For those who want to be in the middle of Positano, this would not be your choice. For those who want to go in occasionally, but live more like a local, this place can't be beat.
The view is fantastic. The main terrace was where we spent all our team, even the meals we cooked we ate out here. The other four terraces are very small, and we only used one of them a couple of times. The four smaller terraces were the only thing I was disappointed in.
Everything was flawless. We would rent again and we would rent the same place. I'm afraid anything else would be disappointing.
Travel tips
- The "Next 2" restaurant on the street below the property was the best restaurant we ate at in Positano. It was so good, we went back on our last night. The owners are related to the owner of the villa, so be sure to mention that, and they will give you first class service.
- I strongly recommend you take the tour with Christine Ornelas ([email protected]) on your first day. You'll get a great overview of the history, shops and the highlights of Positano. She will also introduce you to her husband, Vincenzo, whose family owns the best meet, cheese and wine shop in town. Tell Vincenzo the kind of wine you like, and he will sell you some of the best wines you've ever had. Then when you run out, email Christine, and Vincenzo will bring you more, right to the villa. It's like having local friends.

June 2011 - Our two adult sons, my husband, and I stayed at Villa Giancarlo for a week in June. It was just perfect for us. We enjoyed the large terrace off the dining room together and everyone had plenty of privacy when they wanted it.
The villa is below the main road, so it is quiet and very private, yet close to the bus to take us to the town center and the beach.
The owners are lovely people and were extremely helpful. They were very complimentary about Summer in Italy, too.
The furnishings are lovely, and the owner's garden below is also very pretty.
Travel tips
- The steps or the road down to the beach were not too bad for us, and we mostly took the bus back up. It was very easy.
- There's a little shop just up the main road where we went almost everyday for mozzarella fresca, cherry tomato, fresh basil, and other things.
- The views from the villa were so spectacular, that we spent a lot of our time just enjoying the sea from there.

Travel tips
- You definitely need to hire a taxi to bring your luggage initially to the villa as it is a long way up from the beach and shops.
- Hiring a car with a driver was an excellent way to travel to sights like Pompeii, Vesuvius etc. if you have a family group.

We could not have asked for a more gorgeous view, and there are 4 of them.
We will be back.
Summer in Italy was very responsive, professional, useful and helpful and we would certainly use them again.
Travel tips
- Plan on getting to a negozio to buy extra bathroom tissue, coffee, milk, breakfast items and whatever else you might need on a daily basis. Bring Kleenex. We brought from Starbucks our own ground espresso coffee because we NEED coffee the very next day, it's not negotiable. These items are not included in any kind of "welcome" or "starter" kit that we have experienced in other houses in Italy. There's a small shop for alimentari just prior to the house and another down the steps and down towards the beach that has more selection.
- The restaurant Saraceno d'Oro is terrific, with great food, appears to be family-run.
- Take the walking tour with Christine Ornelas, it made a huge difference for us in getting to know the town, the shops, history, what was going on, etc. She also had great advice for transportation around the area.
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Ask Giancarlo [the owner] how to work the dishwasher because it is not self-evident.
- Be prepared to study the garbage schedule. No joke. We're lawyers and it wasn't easy.

April 2011 - The villa was perfect. Spacious, clean and well furnished, it provided everything we needed. We slept well and the view from the terrace was fantastic. A lovely retreat after a busy day.

August 2010 - Our family of 6 (3 teens and an elderly grandparent), found the villa to be perfect for our needs. The best thing about the villa is the 4 terraces!! It's hard to choose which terrace had the best view.
Giancarlo is a very warm, personable young man. He was there upon arrival and always available to help us with any information (ie. restaurants, boat tours, location of grocery store, etc). He actually lives next door so you definitely don't feel like he's not around.
The actual villa is clean, however there is a lot of paint chipping off the walls (and stains on them) which gives it an older, not so clean feeling. Everything was clean, however, including the linens. The only other problem was an infestation of ants. We were warned, and left with ant powder to get rid of them. After awhile, you just learn to accept them!!
The location was perfect for us. at the top of the steps as you exit the villa is an inn with a wonderful owner (Robin) - every morning we got our croissants and cappuccino from her. The grocery store is also a 5 minute walk up the hill.
The location was ideal because it's set in the middle of the mountain where the view of the sea is spectacular.
The bus stop is also right outside the door if you don't feel like walking.
Summer In Italy were incredible. I found you thru a search online. You spent hours with me figuring out the right location (esp. since I had a dad with me who didn't do steps very well and needed to be by the bus)- you helped me chose the perfect place.
In addition, you helped me understand Positano with regard to my dad getting around and offered up great resources with the process.
I only hope I can get back to Italy in the near future so I can use you guys again. Ive been spreading the word in the States about you!
Thank you.

May 2010 - The villa was great and the layout suited our needs (3 couples) well. The bedrooms are separated by enough space to give adequate privacy. We flipped a coin to see which couple used the living room hide-a-bed along with the single bedroom and bath.
After spending a full week in Positano I can't imagine a better location. Critical to our enjoyment was the fact that the villa was only about 20 steps down from Via Pasitea (the main one-way road up and down town).
Although the weather was unusually cool for mid-May the views from the 4 separate terraces were spectacular.
Summer In Italy.... you really have this villa rental thing down. Great job! You were recommended to me by my travel consultant, Bob Little (Bob the Navigator) and the website Slow Travel. We hope to see you again.
Travel tips
- The villa is located between 2 segments of Via Pasitea (the one-way street up and down town). Up 20 steps on the upper segment are two convenient Hotels. The Hotel Pasitea is a great drop-off and pick-up point for luggage-drivers-taxis-etc.... although the hotel staff are not very villa friendly. The Hotel Villa Gabrisa, on the other hand, was an unexpected find. The family run hotel was very accommodating to us non-guests. We had 3 of our best dining experiences with Isabella and her mom, dad and brother. Everything from leaving postcards to be mailed to catching an early morning roll and espresso was gratefully accomplished by the Villa Gabrisa staff.
- I would say that a don't miss experience would be a Tuesday night dinner at Restaurant La Tagliata up in Nocelle. They pick you up and deliver you safely back. The menu is "whatever Mamma is cooking" and it was all great. They make it a fun night. Make a reservation in advance.
- We also had great meals at Restaurant Da Vincenzo and Restaurant Next2.
- We did the Capri trip with Gennaro and Salvatore and enjoyed the day. If the sea is rough I would recommend taking the ferry service to and from the island for a smoother ride and a less queasy day.
- Anyone interested in hiking a portion of the Path of the Gods... it is easily reached by taking a taxi or bus to Nocelle and hiking back down to town. At age 62 it took me about 6 hrs... with frequent stops for photos and rest.
- All in all the villa is well situated for a fun filled stay in one of the most spectacular places on earth.

October 2009 - Yes, we loved staying there! It was a much larger villa than we expected! More space than we even needed, and that was good for "alone time" and peace & quiet.
The views were wonderful! It was so bright as we first entered the villa and you could immediately see the views as you walked in!
The terrace off the dining room was a very good size and it was nice having small terraces off the two bedrooms and living room, too. Also great having 3 full bathrooms.
The owners were extremely friendly, helpful, and checked in a few times to make sure everything was OK.
We loved the location and enjoyed the walk down to the beach and back.
Summer in Italy was great and I will definitely use it again for a vacation in Italy. All our reservations went through without a hitch. The people at Summer in Italy were responsive and friendly. The information provided for our arrival (directions, other instructions, etc.) was very helpful.
Travel tips
- Restaurant Next2 has excellent service, nice atmosphere (less touristy feel than near the beach), and delicious food.
- The restaurant on the patio at the Hotel/Albergo Montemare (it's either the pizzeria or Capitano restaurant) has a great view and good food.
- Must go to Restaurant Da Vincenzo - very authentic family-run restaurant. We were in Positano in October when many of the restaurants were slow during the weeknights, but not Da Vincenzo - busy every night!
- My favorite caprese salad and limoncello was from Buca di Bacco (restaurant at the hotel right on the Spiaggia Grande).
- We highly recommend a semi-private boat tour to Capri through Cassiopea - you can find them in the "orange" booth on the Spiaggia Grande. Capri is loaded with tourists, so enjoying the cozy boat ride around the island before and after you navigate the crowds the island is ideal. Definitely try the chairlift to Monte Solaro.
- Reserve a cooking class (more like an eating class) at Mamma Agata's in Ravello. Chiara (Mamma's daughter) is a gem at entertaining. The lemon cake and eggplant parmigiana are both mouth-watering. The walk through the garden overlooking the cliffs and the Mediterranean was divine! And Ravello is a must-see.
- Amalfi was a bit touristy and over-crowded.
- Do the Path of the Gods hike - probably our favorite experience.
- Bus schedules are a bit sketchy and overcrowded (we were turned down after waiting for 30 minutes in the rain in Praiano), but taxis are a very expensive option. Ferries would be best.
- Hotel Villa Gabrisa - just across the street at the top of the steps, is an easy place for breakfast to get a yummy cappuccino and a fresh croissant. I wish I could remember the woman's name that worked the front desk (she has reddish hair and is from New Zealand). She was very friendly and helped us reserve a taxi among a few other things, even though we were not guests of the hotel.

September 2009 - We were a little apprehensive about what our villa was going to be like, as we had booked everything over the Internet. We had never been to Italy before so we really did not know what it was going to be like.
When we first got to the villa we were amazed by how beautiful it was, we didn't want to go out, we could have spent the whole holiday in the villa. It is really spacious and nicely decorated.
It was a wonderful experience, waking up in the morning and walking straight out onto our sun terrace.
I have already recommended summer in Italy to friends. We received good communication from you which is really important. I had one amendment to make with the booking and it got dealt with instantly.
Travel tips
- The villa was so fantastic, that we chose to stay in and cook one night.
- If you go up the flight of stairs outside the villa and turn right at the top, along the street you will find a butchers shop, the butcher was very helpful to us and suggested an Italian recipe for us to try that evening.
- If you go down the steps outside the villa, at the bottom turn right and you will come to a restaurant that has seating on the street, it has great food, friendly staff at a reasonable price.

August 2009 - Villa Giancarlo was perfect! The weather was so nice that we spent most of our time on the terrace - hardly used the living room or the other 3 balconies. The views were all stunning.
We didn't cook but kitchen was more than adequate for breakfast and nibbles.
Don't be put off by the stairs - do them down to Fornillo beach and then at end of day do gentle walk around to the main beach and get the bus back to the top of the stairs.
Travel tips
- Restaurant at the top of the stairs was very handy for breakfast and dinner. Also good cheap pizza place right at top of road into town away from the touristy places.
- Get the bus to Nocelle for the amazing ride and lovely village and then stop at Il Ritrovo in Montepertuso for lunch on the way back.

July 2009 - We had a fantastic time. The views were sensational, the location is great. Lots of steps but there are lots of steps in Positano. Restaurants great, the whole atmosphere of Positano is wonderful.
Would love to return.
Summer in Italy were great, I would not hesitate to use them again.
Travel tips
- There is a supermarket down the steps and to the right about 50 metres.
- The bus stops at the top of the stairs to go down to the village.
- We went to Pompeii which is easy to get to by train from Sorrento.: Also did a day trip of "swimming" with Gennaro and Salvatore - one of the best things we have ever done.
- Do visit Ravello.

July 2009 - Villa Giancarlo is a lovely apartment, with beautiful views of the sea from every room.
The largest balcony, off the kitchen, is a wonderful place to sit & watch the boats go back & forth.
It was also quiet, which was surprising as it is right below & right above two lively streets.
The website photographs are representative of what the actual villa looks like, and we would most definitely stay there again.
We used Summer in Italy last summer for a villa in Praiano, and then as now everything went smoothly and was as represented on your website. We definitely will use Summer in Italy again.
Travel tips
- Da Gabrisa (restaurant on the street just above Villa Giancarlo)is a very good restaurant, as is Bucca di Bacco (the beachside cafe -- not the restaurant proper), right down on the beach at the Marina Grande -- both are fine for children also.
- The Fornillo beach, which you can almost look down upon from Villa Giancarlo( and can walk to from the villa), is quieter than the main beach at Positano's Marina Grande, and every bit as much fun -- although it is rockier.
- Be sure and take the little orange bus that travels throughout Positano (bus stop right there at Villa Giancarlo), and also goes to the lovely little town of Praiano.
- Have dinner at La Strada in Praiano -- a terrific restaurant, and go see the absolutely beautiful Praiano cathedral -- the inside all inlaid with majolica tile -- just amazing.
- Either the larger Sita bus (bus stop down near the Grande Marina), or the many boats at the Marina Grande, can take you everywhere up & down the Amalfi Coast.
- The 9 am to 4 pm boat that goes to many of the natural grottos, lets you swim in some of them, and then drops you at Capri for several hours, was an especially lovely way to spend the day. This boat was the Lady Seas -- smaller, wood trim boat, and it was a lot of fun (enjoyed by the children & the adults).

July 2009 - Absolutely loved our week staying at this Villa in Positano.
The Villa is located mid way up/down the only road through the Positano town and whilst initially disappointed that we were not closer to the beach and action, after 24 hrs. we were realising the benefit of being close to everything. Only a short walk (5-10 mins to beach and centre, or up to the top), the bus stop was next to the villa and the steps up and down to the villa were fine. Positano is built on a very steep valley decline, so no one escapes steps.
The villa was beautifully appointed with 4 balconies and views to die for.
You won't be disappointed with this choice -- we certainly would return to this one.

May 2009 - My Family and I had a wonderful time at Villa Giancarlo.
The position and the view were spectacular. We really enjoyed the balconies, 4 in total and all with magic views. The villa was well furnished and had everything we needed.
Some minor negatives included cleaning, generally the apartment was clean but inside wardrobes and drawers and cupboards needed a good clean.
My kids counted 450 steps down to the beach which was ok going down and we did manage to come back up on a few occasions.
The bus stop was very close to the villa and nice restaurants near by. Found coming back on the bus would get quite congested particularly in the evening. However we thought if we were in accommodation by the beach we would miss out on the magic views which this villa certainly did have.

September 2008 - Villa Giancarlo is lovely: spacious, nicely furnished, spectacular views - we spent most of our time, and ate all our meals, on the biggest balcony. I think it is even nicer than it looks on the website, particularly the two main bathrooms. The kitchen has yet to receive the same attention as the rest of the house, but was adequate for the four of us.
We wanted to be in the centre of things; the downside to this is that Positano is very noisy at night. Restaurants are open late with live music, dogs bark, scooters roar, fireworks are let off, and everything echoes off the cliffs. We valued our central position, and soon got used to it, but it wouldn't suit a family seeking peace and quiet!
Travel tips
- You don't need a car. Public transport by bus or boat is excellent, and we got everywhere we wanted to go this way, including a visit to Pompeii.
- Take one of the 'semi private' boat trips to Capri rather than the ferry. After a morning on the island, we got taken round the island by boat to explore the coves and grottoes, swim from the boat, and sip Prosecco!

June 2008 - We loved it! The house was tastefully furnished but not over the top. It was comfortable without being stuffy and the space was large.
The bedrooms all had their own bath and shower and the two main bedrooms also had their own private terrace. Everything was well maintained, clean, and professionally prepared for our stay.
Giancarlo was a wonderful host and was easy to contact if you needed something. He also speaks very good English.
Views from all the terraces, needless to say, were spectacular, day or night.
We never used the air conditioning as it cooled off nicely in the evening and slept with all the terrace doors open. Some noise was present in the evening but never enough to disturb our sleep. Usually after midnight it became very quiet.
The steps down to the house from the main road are pretty steep and deep but there are only about 23 so it's not so bad. If you stay a week in Positano, your legs will be in great shape by the time you leave.
There are three or four grocery stores within a 5-10 minute walk. The one we like the best was about a 10 minute walk up the main road.
The house is centrally located and about half way up the mountain and about a 10-15 minute casual stroll down into the main center of town.
I really can't think of a better place to stay in Positano for the value. Bravo Villa Giancarlo!!

May 2008 - We enjoyed our stay at Villa Giancarlo. The location was wonderful and the view fantastic.
The kitchen is small and not well appointed however. If you plan on doing any cooking while you are there you may have some difficulties.
Excellent experience dealing with Summer in Italy. Most of the people we met that were staying in a Villa had gone through Summer in Italy. We didn't have any problems at all.
“Ooops! Time for Giancarlo to have a look at the kitchen and make sure that all the original equipment is still there. We'll see that it happens. A word of general advice: if you need any piece of equipment that is not available, please do not hesitate and ask either the owners or our help center, we all will do our best to help.„
Travel tips
- Wear comfortable shoes. There are 22 steps to get down to the villa from one street and 100 steps up from the lower street. Lots of exercise and fresh air... it was great.
- Street noise on the weekend, you do get used to it though. The majority of people we met were from the US.
- Read up on transportation in the area. The buses are easy to use and inexpensive. No need for a car other than for a trip to the sites around Naples and you can use a car hire for that.

April 2008 - We loved our stay at Villa Giancarlo. There was plenty of room for 5 adults and the 3 bedroom 3 bathroom configuration suited us very well.
We were very close to the bus stop and we enjoyed being away from the hustle bustle. Plenty of restaurants and delicatessens close by.
The views were fabulous. Giancarlo was very helpful and made sure we were happy with everything.
If we ever come back to Positano we would love to stay here again.

Travel tips
- Wear comfortable and sturdy shoes.
- Take advantage of the local grocery store(s). It made breakfast easy and a whole lot cheaper than eating out everyday. We were two married couples, and we liked that both bedrooms were large, and at opposite ends of the villa, making for comfort and privacy.

August 2007 - Villa Giancarlo is a remarkable place to spend a relaxing time in Positano. The site is spectacular and the house such a pleasure to stay that one can easily pass many hours without leaving. We had no intention of cooking or taking any meals at the house, but decided that it was such a pleasant site that we chose to do so almost once a day.
Our one complaint would not be about Villa Giancarlo, but about Positano. The entire town is sufficiently vertical that it is next to impossible to go anywhere without walking up or down hundreds of steps. We counted fifty steps to the street below the house and some 600 steps to the beach. The hikes in the hills were magnificent, but all entailed three to four times the number of steps than the trip to the beach.

July 2007 - We absolutely loved it and will definitely rent it again.
The three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and multiple terraces gave our family of 5 more space than we even needed!
It was very clean with beautiful plants throughout which gave the apartment a very "homey" feel. The view was fabulous... from every room and terrace.
There are many steps to get down to the beach and the center of town... 474 to be exact. It was not a problem for us... even our 4 year old managed the steps every day for 2 weeks! I actually enjoyed the exercise and found a nice jogging route down the steps, across the path along the sea which connects the beaches and back up again. But, future renters should be prepared. There is a bus which you could catch just steps away from the apartment, but we preferred the beautiful walk down the tight staircases, squeezed between the old buildings... what an experience!
Everything went very smoothly! You did a great job coordinating everything for us! Thanks.

July 2007 - Villa Giancarlo provided our family with the setting for our most amazing vacation in Italy.
Every room was beautifully decorated with everything we needed to relax and enjoy our stay. We decided to try our hand at cooking an Italian dinner one night and found that the kitchen was nicely stocked.
The view was breathtaking. In fact, I'd brought along a stack of books which I never did read, because the view was too good to miss.
We loved the location; not too close to the market center with it's noise, but halfway up the hill in a mostly residential area that still had stores, groceries and restaurants. It was an easy walk to most places we wanted to explore.
In our opinion Positano is the perfect Italian city to visit: not hot and crowded like Rome or Venice. It retains it's Italian charm yet is very welcoming to American tourists.
I have already recommended Summer In Italy and the Villa Giancarlo to my traveling friends back home in the US. We are all getting ready to retire and are all looking for dependable travel services as we look forward to more time and expendable income with which to travel.
Since we were not traveling on a tour there were times when I asked the Summer In Italy staff general questions about other hotels for our commute from Rome and other travel issues with which we needed help. The staff always came through with a quick phone call or e-mail to guide our planning.
In sum we couldn't have been more pleased with Villa Giancarlo and the Summer In Italy experience.
Travel tips
- A dinner at Trattoria La Tagliata is not to be missed. Call 39-089-875-872 for reservations. They provide the transportation and the trip is beautiful. But the food and the owners are the real treat!

- Walk to the smaller beach - the view is worth the walk. Take the bus back up the hill.

June 2007 - Villa Giancarlo is a great place to stay. The view from the terraces are great. It's air conditioned but we only needed it one night (in the last week of June).

September 2006 - The villa exceeded our expectations. It was a healthy walk from town and the beaches, but the internal "orange" bus stopped just in front of the villa's steps. We loved the outdoor spaces and spent a great deal of time on the terrace just off the dinning room. I would suggest adding another lounge chair to the terrace for.
The large open space in the living room and sitting area was a pleasant surprise. We never felt we did not have enough individual space.
All the terraces were a delight for additional space and enjoyment of the Mediterranean views.
I would highly recommend Villa Giancarlo and my friend expressed an interest in returning to the villa for another vacation.
The only shortcoming I found was at night. It seems the automobiles drive over some sort of metal plate in the road and you can hear the pounding sound during the stillness of the night.

May 2006 - Our family of 5 loved staying at the Villa Giancarlo. There was plenty of space for all of us and the view is amazing.
The location is great. Though more towards the top of the hill, the local bus stops right at the stairs to go down to the Villa. Our children are older, all in their twenties, so we needed a place which could accommodate 5 adults. By the week's end we had figured out the quickest way down to the beach via the stairs.

March 2006 - Our stay was in March so the weather was variable.
Our stay at the Villa Giancarlo was enjoyed by all of our party. The furnishings and bedrooms met our expectation of a clean, comfortably suited accommodation.
The view, as always, is spectacular, even when the storm of the century (it seemed like that) made the shutters bang all night. Actually, that was great fun.
The owner was attentive and thorough in demonstrating the appliances and explaining how to reset the circuit breaker after a fuse blew. The heaters were very efficient in taking the chill off in each room.
We met the owner while he was chatting with friends in the town and he took the time to speak with us. Very friendly.
Then the weather changed back to sunny and comfortable for walking for the rest of our stay. We are looking forward to booking again.

The villa is honestly described and the views are great. The villa is lovely with beautiful antique furniture.
There is a local bustop at the top of your 20 step "street" which is very convenient. It takes you right down to the center of town and the beach. We would usually walk down to the beach/center of town and then take the bus back (up). It is about a 10-15 minute walk down to the main beach. It is probably a bit more than 200 meters (unless you have a hang-glider. There are small grocery stores, newspaper shops, and restaurants all within easy walking distance to the villa.
We would definately return to Villa Giancarlo especially now that we know how to get around Positano and enjoy all it has to offer.
We never needed to use the air-conditioning because of the beautiful breezes. There is a charge for electricity if you use over 100kw. We used about 70 or 80 kw for the week without using any air conditioners.
