Fantastic
May 2014 - Villa Arcanda A, part of a four unit building, is perched high on a hill surrounded by olive trees. It has a wonderful, Western facing view of the valley. You could see off in the distance the high speed commuter trains that traveled North and South. We stayed there a week and were blessed with beautiful sunsets and weather.
Our apartment was nicely equipped with the essentials to cook there when desired. The fireplace was nice to use on a couple chilly nights. Also the veranda was a great place for morning coffee and afternoon antipasti with wine. It was a little too chilly to swim in the nice pool so we enjoyed some relax time in their lounge chairs when we weren't town and village hopping.
The owners were very gracious and were helpful for advice.
Thanks for all the advice and references for our two stays.
Travel tips
- We ate all our breakfasts in and lunches out since we were driving every day to different towns. This was a good idea since you're perched about a mile up from the nearest town.
- When we did eat out we went to Restaurant Antica Pieve (3 times for dinner), a great Tuscan restaurant about 5 miles away.
- Cortona, Perugia, Montepulciano and, of course, Florence are must see's.
- When you go to Florence take the local train instead of driving. Also pick up some local olive oil, bread and parma ham for a picnic lunch.
- One of our favorite foods was proscuitto wrapped melon with a good Brunello wine.
- Tuscany is dotted with towns, wineries and lovely countryside.
