We loved it
May 2017 - We loved it. We had a great stay. Everything was very good. We would recommend it to our friends for sure.
The driveway is a bit treacherous and the car rental place upgraded us to a massive car that was difficult to negotiate, but honestly, that was all part of the charm.
Everyone was kind and welcoming, and they dealt well with my rudimentary Italian language skills.
Summer In Italy made booking very easy. It was a great experience.
Travel tips
- We walked to Amalfi and visited the paper museum, which was fantastic.
- I definitely recommend renting a compact-size car if you're going to drive. The streets are daunting and the traffic is insane. Once you park your car, leave it there and walk everywhere.
- We also walked to the beach just up the road from Atrani, Castiglione. We recommend it. It was much quieter than the other spots we tried out.

September 2013 - I really enjoyed my stay at Casa Sesta. The pictures that you posted online don't even do it justice. If I ever plan to visit the Amalfi Coast again, I will plan my stay at either Casa Sesta or one of the other villa's on the property.
Everything was absolutely wonderful and I couldn't have asked for anything more. The view was breathtaking, the rooms were comfortable, the place was quiet and peaceful.
The caretaker of the property is lovely as well. He didn't speak English at all but he was very accommodating and understanding when my husband and I had to leave really early on our check out day to catch our flight in Naples. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Everything was wonderful.
Thank you Summer in Italy for being so helpful and wonderful. We had planned a trip to Italy on 2 previous and had booked with you both times. You were very understanding and helpful each time we cancelled and still honoured our voucher credit. We are excited that we finally made it to Italy after all this time. Thank you!
Travel tips
- Atrani and Amalfi are really easy to get to.
- We didn't spend too much time in Atrani and mostly walked to Amalfi. Amalfi is about a 25 minute walk from the villa and really easy to get to.
- We didn't attempt to walk to Ravello as it seemed farther to walk to but it is a quick drive away.
- We rented a car and it was really easy to get to each town with a car. I didn't want to rely on public transportation although it seemed to run quite frequently.
- We enjoyed our day trip to Pompeii but plan a full day for it and don't rush it.

July 2013 - Beautiful location, overlooking the bay of Atrani. Apartment spacious and really clean with everything you need. Pool lovely and plenty of space.
Spent 8 nights there visiting around the area, so much to see, as well as chilling locally and at the villa.
Car really beneficial to visit Ravello and further (there is a bus service however). Atrani (quieter beach and cute little square with local life -- restaurant Mistral has delicious food and friendly service) and Amalfi are walkable but there are lots of steps! Makes the gorgeous food a bit more guilt free though.
Travel tips
- Car really beneficial to visit Ravello and further.
- Atrani lovely and more local - restaurant Mistral in Atrani square had friendly service and great food, especially seafood.

July 2013 - Casa Sesta exceeded our expectations. Don't consider anywhere else, you have found the best! The perfect setting for a romantic getaway!
Our apartment tucked in the cliffs of "Valley of the Dragons" provided us with the most exceptional view of Atrani and the ocean. The pool is wonderful, and the property is maintained so well - flowers blooming everywhere! The whole experience was out of a dream. We are already in the process of planning our return.
Travel tips
- On the website, Casa Sesta is said to be located in Ravello. In fact, it is located in Atrani, a smaller seaside village. Ravello is in walking distance, I suppose, if you're in the mood for a SERIOUS walk. (we only drove to Ravello - it was about a 5 minute drive). [thanks for this opportunity for a clarification: the property is actually in an area that is part of the territory of Ravello, which extends from the top of the hill down to the water. The center of Atrani is actually closer than the center of Ravello. Our advice to prospective travellers is to take advantage of the map feature, to see for themselves where the property is placed on a map.]
- Atrani is located 350 stairs from your front door, down toward the ocean. The town is quite small, which we loved. Beach access in Atrani was the easiest we found on the Amalfi Coast. Another heads up, you will need to be prepared to do a minimum of 700 stairs a day - 350 down and 350 back up. It can be quite a strenuous workout if you have any handicaps or are out of shape! It does help to keep off the pounds which you are sure to acquire with all the phenomenal food in Atrani! Lastly, Casa Sesta has a wonderful kitchen, but it does not have the basics. Don't expect spices/seasonings or dish soap. There is a grocery store where you can get all of that just beyond Casa Sesta on the road, about 1 km, on the way to Ravello.

October 2012 - We loved Casa Sesta. It was the perfect place for our trip. Located a short walk up the valley it was nice and quiet. The views are spectacular and there are lots of great hiking trails to be explored right from the property.
The setting was even more beautiful than the online photos appeared and the property was kept in top notch condition at all times.
Summer in Italy was great. I would definitely use it again and recommend it to friends and family. Thanks Luca!
Travel tips
- Between Atrani, Ravello and Amalfi there were more than enough restaurants and interesting sights. Mr. Nicola (the property manager) is a really nice man. He speaks no English but all of the info you need is in the binder provided in your room.
- There is a good little grocery store on the way up the road to Ravello (take the car - it is quite a hike on foot).
- You must be fit! The walk to and from Atrani is short but is mainly stairs.
- Get some hiking trail info before you go (we used the sunflower guide) and especially check out the hike to Torre Dello Ziro, it has the most incredible views in the area.
- The trip to Capri is outstanding (you can get ferries from Amalfi).
- Our favorite restaurant was in Ravello and was at the Hotel Villa Maria. It has spectacular views from the patio overlooking the coast, the food was superb and the prices surprisingly reasonable.
- There is no WiFi at the property but the cafe/restaurant (Bar Birecto) in the square in Atrani has free WiFi and really great prices for food.
- Go to Amalfi and try the bakery/cafe "Andrea Pansa" - certainly the best bakery I have ever been to.

October 2012 - Spectacular views and very spacious in Casa Sesta.
Just a 10 minute walk to the small, quaint piazza and beach in Atrani. Only drawback is the parking which was a challenge.
From start to finish, Summer in Italy helped make our trip very smooth and enjoyable. I will highly recommend your web site to friends/family. Mille grazie!
Travel tips
- Property manager is very nice but he only speaks italian, so bring your translator.
- Be sure to walk through the allies to appreciate the local culture.

June 2011 - It was a beautiful place to stay! We had a wonderful visit.
We loved the decorations (tiled floors, spiral staircase especially). The views out the windows were lovely. A very relaxing place. We enjoyed the balcony and pool.
The location was great, right off the walking path and close to Atrani for going to dinner. We liked that it was much quieter than staying right in a town. It is nestled in the rock cliff, so nice and cool.
We hope to visit again one day!
We were so happy with our booking. We were just browsing and found the site. We would definitely use Summer in Italy again if we get a chance!
Travel tips
- Our favorite restaurant was Mistral in Atrani. We loved the family run friendliness.
- Booking a boat tour of the coast was wonderful - highly recommended (out of Amalfi).
- We enjoyed all the walking paths and hiking, but you need to be in shape for a lot of stair climbing. Go to a deli to get a sandwich for a picnic -- incredibly good and inexpensive treat for your hike...
- Don't miss going up to Ravello and visiting the shops. It definitely wasn't as crowded as Positano or Amalfi and it was so quaint and beautiful, especially to see the panoramic view from Villa Cimbrone.

August 2010 - Words can not express how wonderful Casa Sesta is.
My husband and I returned this summer after spending the summer of our engagement here. We had worried it would not be the same. However, it was just as unspoilt and beautiful as we remembered.
We particularly like the natural beauty of the surrounding area and the uniqueness of the terrace built amongst the cliffs. The views are spectacular and we would not want to stay anywhere else when visiting the Amalfi Coast.
Travel tips
- Bring plenty of mosquito spray in the summer.
- Be prepared to walk up lots of steps.
- The Despar supermarket closes between 2-4 pm daily but reopens 4-8 pm for provisions.
- There is a lovely pizzeria/fish restaurant in Atrani by the harbour.

June 2010 - The house was more than we imagined. Tucked way up above the town of Atrani with a breathtaking view.
As in previous reviews the walk into Atrani was a real adventure. You must be in shape. I lost some weight so I'm not complaining and there is a bus you can catch at the end of the winding driveway.
The host was great and we enjoyed our stay in Atrani very much. We loved the town and bar owned by Luigi and Luigi. Although we didn't eat there everyday, we went and sat in the piazza and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
Thanks Summer In Italy we were very pleased with this villa.
The Summer In Italy site is great. This villa was everything we expected by what we had read and more.
Travel tips
- If you plan on doing the boat trip to Capri or touring the Amalfi Coast book the day before or go prior to 9:00. The boat leaves at 9:30 and that's the only trip of the day.
- Atrani is a small village with all the amenities and if you're looking for a busy town Amalfi is about a 20 minute walk from Atrani.

October 2009 - Staying for a week at Casa Sesta was like living in a fairy tale.
There are absolutely fabulous views across the Valley of the Dragon of the incredible terracing and cliff-hanging buildings from all 3 rooms, including the glass-enclosed shower! There is a view of the sea from all windows and the terrace, which is kept shaded or out of the rain by an overhanging part of the cliff.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended the place to several friends.
You did a great job; my credit card was billed at the intervals you specified, and your directions to the apartment were quite clear. Signor Nicola [the caretaker] picked us--and our wheeled bags--up at the bus stop at the top of the hill and drove us down to the parking lot. From there, it was a short walk to Casa Sesta.
Travel tips
- The Mistral restaurant in the piazza of Atrani serves an excellent mussel soup and delicious fried seaweed.
- There is an excellent fruit and vegetable store about 2 blocks up the one road leading out of the piazza.
- We did a lot of hiking in the hills. There is a set of guide maps (areas 2 and 3 covered everything in the immediate area) available at many of the bookstores that give details on the footpaths and trails in the area.

October 2009 - We had a fantastic time at Casa Sesta.
It is in an unbelievable location with a fantastic view.
Atrani is a lovely village which is not too touristy but has sufficient shops and restaurants.
We were delighted with everything.
Travel tips
- You need to be fairly fit to manage the walk up and down the steps into Atrani itself.
- You may find some earplugs useful if you're a light sleeper. Noise from dogs and chickens echoes up the valley and can wake you early in the morning.
- The pool terrace only gets the sun for around 4 or 5 hours a day due to the cliffs. This was in October so it may well be longer in the summer.
- Our favourite restaurant in Atrani was Osteria da Luisella in the main piazza. It is recommended in the Lonely Planet guide and lived up to the billing. The fish ravioli is excellent.

November 2008 - When I arrived I text all my friends to let them know I had found heaven!
Make sure you are fit and have flat shoes. The 450 steps down to the village are a real test of your stamina. However the two restaurants and small bars, especially the one on the beach were well worth the climb [and bus service is available for those who don't feel to do the steps].
Just keep it a secret as it would be spoilt if too many people were there.

October 2008 - We would recommend it to anyone who enjoys walking and being close to the Italian coast. You need to be prepared for lots and lots and lots of steps but that only adds to its charm, as it is hidden away in the old alleyways of Atrani.
We went for our honeymoon and couldn't have been happier, we would love to go back again.
We had a good experience with Summer in Italy and would definitely look to them again.
Travel tips
- Do visit Ravello and Villa Cimbrone whether by foot or by car it is a fabulous day out.
- Pogerola by foot or by bus is also worth a visit.
- Do get a small car as the roads are narrow and the Italian drivers scary.
- Get your fruit and veg from the shop at the bottom of the hill as you walk into Atrani. He is very friendly.
- Always try to speak the language when ever you can. The locals will love you for it and it adds so much to the whole experience.

July 2007 - What a fabulous holiday at Casa Sesta! We loved our villa and would most definitely suggest it to other travellers.
The steps were a lot of work, however allowed you to eat more pasta and gelato!
I loved our villa, but found the terrace a challenge if you were tall. My husband and I had to be careful with the low overhang of the rocks when using the table/hanging laundry.
Great location to the pool and fabulous views of the water.
The Summer in Italy site represented the property very accurately and was so easy to use. Nicola & Tania [the caretaker] were extremely friendly and helpful on site at Casa Sesta.
Thank you for a fabulous vacation!

June 2007 - We had a great time here: great views, nice and quiet and very well presented accommodation.
Not close enough to Ravello for easy access in the evening but Amalfi is, and an easier walk and more enjoyable location overall.
Excellent service, many thanks.
Travel tips
- Beware the drive down the very narrow and twisty private road, avoid large cars.
- Casa Sesta was shaded until noon and then shaded after 6 pm so there is no need for air conditioning in the evening and it was 38-40 C during our stay!
- Terrace fine, but not that user friendly, the pool is very close and much better to sit around, eat lunch whether under the vine covered terrace or the pool side.
- Walking to Ravello: it took about ninety minutes leaving at 3 pm so avoid if very hot or not fit! Buses stop just to right of entrance and are cheapest way up and down (25-30 mins journey), taxis expensive (30 euro back from Ravello at 2 am) but only 15 mins.
- Atrani has a nice small seaside port, beach, a few bars and restaurants and a couple of small stores for basics. Walk down the path at the base of property - easy.
- There is a Despar supermarket on way up to Ravello - if you have a car and need supplies.

June 2007 - Our week's holiday in Casa Sesta was simply fantastic - the property is very charming and tranquil with gardens to match!
We will definitely come back.
The secure parking is really useful given the expensive car park charges around the coast.
The village of Atrani is really friendly with great restaurants.
Summer In Italy is a very helpful and consumer focused organisation. We will definitely recommend you to our friends.
Travel tips
- The restaurants in Atrani (Restaurant Le Palme and Restaurant A Paranza) are fantastic - great service and value for money.
- Don't eat at Restaurant Cumpa Cosimo in Ravello - the standards & service have really slipped since we first went in 2001.
- Hire a small boat from Amalfi and see the coastline and villages from the sea. It was a great day out.

May 2007 - Being at Casa Sesta was the best vacation we have every had. We are only sorry that we only stayed for one week.
Everything was much more than we expected, Casa Sesta was lovely and the grounds were beautiful. The views from our windows and balcony were spectacular. We can't wait to come back.
Everyone was very helpful and accommodating. The people that we dealt with could not be more helpful and made us feel really at home. Thank you for a wonderful vacation. I am already planning out next stay in 2009 for at least 2 weeks, maybe more. I will keep checking your site for updates, although we definitely want to come back to this villa for at least a week or more.
Travel tips
- It is a quiet peaceful place with spectacular views over Atrani and the sea. You do however, need to be able to walk up and down the steps, which we had no problem with. Other than that, just enjoy.

August 2006 - We spent a week at Casa Sesta in August 2006, and it was one of our best holidays ever!
Although every villa on the development was occupied, we never felt crowded. There were even times every day when you could have the swimming pool to yourself! The views from the spacious and secluded roof terrace (and indeed from all other rooms) are breathtaking, and it is hard to imagine a more soothing sound at night than the waterfall in the valley.
There is no television in the house, but we brought a portable CD player, which provided a much better backdrop to sunny breakfasts and candlelit dinners on the terrace.
The rooms are a good size and the kitchen is well supplied with cooking utensils. There is a supermarket a short car journey away, but we decided to live like the locals, so walked the 300 steps down into the village of Atrani and up again every day. It was worth it: the ancient path is varied and picturesque, the walk burns up all those excess calories from the night before(especially when you are carrying a huge watermelon!), and local produce is delightful. Our favourite was the fishmonger right at the bottom of the steps; the shop often looks empty, but they have amazing freshly caught fish and seafood in the cool back room - just walk in and ask, and the friendly staff will even clean the fish for you. Local mozzarella is also superb.
This is not a location for a beach holiday lover. The beaches, although clean, tend to be small, rather pebbly and very busy. Sports facilities are extremely limited. However, there is so much else to do that the beach becomes almost irrelevant. Casa Sesta is very conveniently located for Atrani, Amalfi and Ravello - you can actually walk to all three, which is useful as local buses are often packed and taxi drivers extortionist. We also travelled further afield to see Salerno and the magnificent temples of Paestum.
Many thanks to the caretaker, Signor Nicola, and his wife. They worked quietly in the background to make our stay comfortable, plied us with figs and lemons, and taught us lots of Italian words!
You provided an excellent service. Your descriptions of holiday properties were detailed and honest. You responded promptly and efficiently to our inquiries. We would certainly use Summer in Italy again. Many thanks!

June 2006 - My husband and I went to Casa Sesta the first week of June on our honeymoon and we loved it! The pictures do not do it justice!
The views were spectacular and Casa Sesta itself was incredible. It is the perfect romantic retreat for honeymooners or anyone wanting a quiet week, weekend or longer away.
The only drawback of our stay was the bus routes to Ravello, if taking the bus, expect a long ride, or hire a taxi, which is what we did on our way to the airport and it is money well spent.
We are already trying to plan our next trip to Casa Sesta, or perhaps one of the larger apartments inside the small complex.

We felt we were living in a different world! All the stresses and worries from home melted away every time we looked out the window at our breathtaking view.

September 2005 - We had an amazing fortnight at Casa Sesta - the house is beautiful, the views and locations are stunning, the pool is lovely, and Signor Nicola the caretaker is very kind and hospitable.
Physical fitness is a must if you want to stay here - the climb from the village and beach up to the house is about 500 meters and very steep - we lost a few pounds despite the gorgeous Italian food!
Casa Sesta is a very unusual property - it is set into a cliff and the roof terrace is overhung by the clifftop, meaning it is sheltered from even the heaviest rain (we had hot sunshine every day and thunderstorms at night).
The kitchen is very well equipped and the local food is a joy to cook.
The house is very cool and we didn't need the air conditioning.
We will always remember sitting on the roof terrace at night by candlelight, barbequeing fish, drinking local wine, and watching the fireworks over Atrani. If you are a couple looking for the perfect private romantic hideaway in the most beautiful surroundings, I would thoroughly recommend this property. Watch out for the mozzies though!
We had a very good experience booking with you and would certainly do so again.

July 2005 - We really loved the location of Casa Sesta because peace, quiet, and fantastic views are what we look for in our holiday accommodation. The setting is fabulous, but not for any one with small children or the elderly, due to the extremely steep entrance. The pool was really lovely, very clean and well kept by Senor Nicola [the caretaker].
We preferred Atrani to Amalfi (though most people probably wouldn't). I thought the tiny square opening on to the beach was gorgeous.
Please think very carefully about driving on this coast though, you need nerves of steel, we have driven in many places around the world but this is seriously scary!! Local transport is very good.
The house is very unusual (its actually a cave!). It stayed very cool during the day, the views are unbelievable, I was totally captivated by the remains of medieval architecture everywhere you look on the on the opposite side of the valley!
If there are any negatives it would be the difficult access to the terrace from the kitchen particulary carrying drinks or food, but it did not spoil our stay in anyway.
All in all we had a great stay, I would definitely recommend it to friends.
