One of the best views you can get from a property in Tuscany

September 2020 - This has to be one of the best views you can get from a property in Tuscany. Beautiful rolling Tuscan hillside view from the terrace or the good sized pool.

The grounds were very well maintained and well designed to be able to stroll around complete with fruit and olive trees (shame the pomegranates weren’t fully rip but enjoyed the fresh lemons with our GandT).

With Casa Gelso A as opposed to the other apartments you get more outdoor space and is more private as it has its own terrace and other space at the side. The full size parasol for all the properties means you can get full shade when it gets hot.

The pool was immaculate and the owners came down every night and put the pool robot to work so the pool was super clean. Each apartment had (COVID) designated sunbeds and enough for everyone. Parking was safe and secure with a gated entrance.

The apartment itself was well proportioned and in the Tuscan style (aka basic) but as expected. There was aircon in the lounge and whilst it did take the temperature down a bit it didn’t cool the bedroom as much as we would have hoped. The apartment was very clean and the cleanliness you expect for this standard of property was good - clean bathroom tiles and quality bedding.

Previous reviews suggested the kitchen equipment was lacking but we found there was plenty for what we needed - all very clean. A microwave would have helped. The kitchen had a full width window which meant when you did need to be inside preparing food you still had a fab view.

Overall the stay was fab and I would not hesitate in recommending this as a place to stay.

The owners were very attentive when needed and checked in throughout the holiday to see how we were getting on. With COVID it was clear they had done everything needed to make the property safe for guests - taking our temperature, providing sanitiser, notes on how to stay safe and dedicated sun beds.

As for Summer In Italy, where to start other than to say we had amazing customer support from Luca and the team. We stumbled across this site whilst looking for somewhere to stay and I was a bit hesitant. I needn’t have worried. They were superb from start to finish. If they can continue to offer this level of customer support then they will have a fantastic future in a crowded market. The documentation we got with the booking was detailed and clear and very helpful for our stay. We used them on a couple of occasions when we needed help contacting the property as they could translate for us.

I was so impressed with their customer service that I will be an ambassador for them if my friends are looking to travel to Italy and when I next book they will be my first stop. Thank you Luca.

Travel tips

  • The location is in a small hamlet with no shops or restaurants nearby. That didn’t bother us because we tend to self cater and you won’t find a better view to have your evening meal.
  • If you like to go out in the evening for a meal then you will need to factor in travel to the nearest town Colle di Val d’Elsa.
  • I like to go for an early morning walk but other than the short road through the hamlet it was difficult as the main road is at the end (although not overly busy in the morning). The barking dogs at every turn keep you alert!

Excellent

July 2008 - Casa Gelso A was an absolutely wonderful place to spend two weeks in late June and early July. The air conditioning and the pool made warm sunny Tuscan days very pleasant, and the furniture and facilities were lovely.

We were new to travel in Italy and don't speak Italian, but our hosts Alessandra and Mauro welcomed us warmly and helped us navigate around the local area with maps and good advice about restaurants and markets.

The location was just right -- Florence less than an hour's drive to the north, and Siena less than thirty minutes to the south, and we made several easy day trips to both, in addition to San Gimignano, Volterra, and Monteriggioni.

After days spent sightseeing in the historic cities or hiking in the hills around Siena, we could always look forward to returning to the lovely refuge of Casa Gelso A and its spectacular view of mountains and fields every evening.
