Perfect for a couple looking to explore Praiano and the Amalfi Coast

June 2022 - Casa Chicca is perfect for a couple looking to explore Praiano and the Amalfi Coast. The apartment is nestled under the church at St Luca Piazza and the views from the terrace are spectacular, perfect for a glass of wine at the end of a day sight seeing or hiking. We woke in the mornings to church bells and the thud of lemons falling from the lemon tree.

The apartment is equipped for basic cooking but there are lovely restaurants close by. We would recommend La Posteria, Restaurant Franchino and Kasai Restaurant. Restaurant La Moressa is close by but we found the food mediocre and over priced (it seemed popular for take away pizza).

Paola [the owner] was very friendly, she met us from the square and brought us to the apartment, although it is easy to find as long as you can make your way to the church. Paola also helped us arrange transportation back to Naples airport.

This was our second holiday to Praiano and we will definitely return to Casa Chicca.

Perfect location to explore

July 2021 - Perfect stay if you want to explore the Amalfi Coast but don’t want to stay in a overcrowded Positano.

This accommodation offers everything you need. It is close to the center street and has an amazing view over the sea where you can have your romantic dinner. The accommodation also provides all the essentials for a pleasant stay. A fully equipped kitchen and even a washing machine. Definitely would book this again.

Travel tips

  • Praiano is perfectly located between Amalfi and Positano on the most beautiful cost of Italy. Praiano is called the hidden gem, and they live up to the expectation. I would advice to stay in Praiano and explore the coast from here.

September 2020 - It is a lovely apartment and we enjoyed our stay very much.

Travel tips

  • There are three grocery stores in walking distance from Casa Chicca.
  • The bus stop of the line towards Sorrento and Amalfi is only a 10 min walk away from Casa Chicca.
  • Also both of Praiano's beaches (Marina di Praia Beach and Gavitella Beach) are in walking distance.
  • So, Casa Chicca is perfectly situated for a stay without a car. A lot of the roads in Praiano and the rest of the Amalfi Coast are narrow and with stairs. Parking lots are rare and expensive. Better try travelling by train and bus.

Everything was perfect, highly recommended!!!

August 2020 - Fantastic apartment, we were a couple and it was perfect for us.

The location is convenient, very close to the square and to the local minibus stop (if you know the Amalfi Coast you know that you can only move by public transportation there... Comfortable and cheap!).

The owner is a real gem, very kind and helpful!

Everything was perfect, highly recommended!!! A place where come back! Truly a great vacation!

Summer In Italy is a truly amazing company! We have traveled a lot and have had the opportunity to try different booking agencies, and I must say with no doubt that Summer In Italy is truly above average both in terms of availability and courtesy - always present and available! Excellent and highly recommended.

October 2019 - This apartment was exactly as advertised, and a spectacularly located retreat away from the hordes of people in the bigger towns on the coast.

We enjoyed our stay here so much, especially the view!

August 2019 - We enjoyed our stay here so much, especially the view! The house was so clean and comfortable.

It was such a nice touch that the hosts left fresh fruit and coffee in the kitchen for us. We really appreciated.

Summer In Italy was great, super helpful and answering all of our questions!

Travel tips

  • Be prepared to walk a lot - there's a small market just a couple minutes from the house but has a very limited selection. The bigger store is down a bit and requires more of a walk.
  • The local buses have a schedule but don't stick to it so you could wait a very long time! On the coast, schedules meant very little (usually not the driver's fault, just traffic), but also the fact that it was August apparently makes everything more unreliable because of local holidays.
  • The art gallery in the 800 year old tower by the beach was great. Paolo, the artist, knows everything about Praiano.
  • The Path of the Gods is totally worth it. And there's an info center right across from the church on the main road, with maps and very helpful information (like when the main road was closed by a rockslide).

Nice little house with a great terrace and fantastic views of the sea

July 2019 - Nice little house with a great terrace and fantastic views of the sea. For a summer holiday with 2 people the size was perfect. Nice bedroom with comfortable bed.

The house is located on a slope so there are many stairs to deal with. It was a bit tiring, especially in the heat.

Summer In Italy is great. Everything went very well and we will book again with you.

Travel tips

  • There is a small supermarket nearby, next to the little piazza, where we always went to. They have fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh white bread and delicious Parma ham.
  • We went twice to the Restaurant La Moressa. The pizzas there were the best we have ever tasted.
  • Restaurant Kasai was not to our liking.
  • You can easily go around by public buses.
  • Parking is difficult and almost impossible to find.

We first visited four years ago, and fell in love with the terrace and view

October 2018 - We first visited four years ago, and fell in love with the terrace and view. It is as lovely now as it was then. It is quite a climb from the town, but you can take the bus. If visiting in cold weather - the living/eating area is small, but the terrace is a joy.

Paola the owner is delightful.

Excellent service and advice from Summer In Italy, everything worked well.

Travel tips

  • Get your mind around the local and other bus timetables quickly, as the climb up from the town centre is not pleasant on a hot day.
  • Check out the water taxis too - the climb up and down to some beaches is daunting at some 300 steps! For example, Marina di Praia Beach has a water taxi service.
  • Excellent fishmonger and butcher in town, and several grocery shops - who will deliver to Casa Chicca. Also a good grocery close to Piazza San Luca near the house.
  • Several good restaurants, including Kasai, an easy walk away.

It became our home away from home!

October 2017 - We really liked Casa Chicca. At first we thought we were a bit far from the hot-spots of the Amalfi Coast but then, after a few days, we loved that we were in this smaller village among more of the locals and not so many tourists! It became our home away from home!

We were welcomed with a bowl of fruit and a few necessary items in the fridge. Everything was lovely.

We booked on the recommendation of friends who stayed there a few years ago. I felt everything was great.

A wonderful month

August 2017 - I spent a wonderful month in Casa Chicca and once I had worked out where I was and how transport worked found it very easy to get around. The steps will not be for everyone but it helped me keep fit while I enjoyed the local food. It is not in the busiest part of Praiano but nothing is too far. I enjoyed coming back to Casa Chicca especially after a hectic day in Amalfi or Positano.

Casa Chicca was immaculate! not an overly large living space but I didn't plan to be there much. The terrace was very sunny and with a lemon tree providing shade.

I've had a great experience with Summer In Italy. I came across the web site accidently but will certainly use it again if planning another Italian stay. Having local knowledge of areas was invaluable for me as I was travelling to places I'd never been. Their photos and comments of the property were spot on. They were able to help me decide if I needed a car for the area or what the climate is often like etc etc.

Travel tips

  • This is perfect if you are wanting to stay somewhere a bit removed from the heavy tourist areas and want to soak up a bit of the Italian way of life.
  • Markets are nearby but make note of their opening times as unlike the larger towns and cities they close for lunch often between 1 and 4pm.
  • Positano and Amalfi are a 20 min bus ride away this has to be the easiest way to travel, plus thrilling in its own right. Watching cars, buses and motor scooters jockeying for position on the road is frustration and hilarious.
  • Be prepared for a lot of walking.
  • I would suggest you would need to be reasonably fit.

Fantastic

September 2016 - We loved our time at Casa Chicca.

It is small but the location, the view, the terrace with barbeque, ensured that we had a truly peaceful and relaxed holiday. The kitchen is small but well equipped. We generally ate out at lunchtimes and returned to Casa Chicca for the evening meal on the BBQ - delicious fish or meat bought at the village shops. Delivery of ordered supplies of general foodstuffs and drink to the door from Angela Alimentari's excellent shop, was also a huge plus no having to carry heavy wine and water bottles up the hill!!

Paola the owner was charming and had put together a helpful guide to Casa Chicca including bus timetables, garbage collection times and several cultural suggestions for whilst we were there. There is an extensive selection of guides, maps and suggested restaurants on the bookshelf in the bedroom.

We fully expect to return to the Amalfi Coast, and would hope to stay again at Casa Chicca.

Travel tips

  • The local tourist office (Ufficio del Turismo) in Praiano is extremely helpful. They speak English, French and German and can organize tours for you to the top tourist destinations.
  • Use Angela Alimentari and their delivery service.
  • There is an excellent butcher near the tourist office and a fish shop further along the same road.
  • Walk down the hill to the center of Praiano and try to time your return to coincide with the local bus.
  • Eat outside and get great no fuss food at Pizzeria Jolly, one road down from Casa Chicca.
  • Use the BBQ and enjoy a view that you'd have to pay for in a restaurant!
  • Go to Ravello, it is beautiful!

May 2016 - My wife and I stayed for a week at Casa Chicca. It was a delightful experience, one we'll never forget.

The kitchen allows you to prepare meals at home, especially nice for breakfast when you can enjoy morning coffee on the terrace. It's nice to have the use of a washing machine so you can pack lighter.

We came to Praiano and the Amalfi Coast expecting to walk hills and steps and weren't disappointed. The scenery and views from the terrace and surrounding areas was very impressive, stunning actually.

We planned our trip wanting to avoid the tour groups and stay with "the locals" and we were able to do this at Casa Chicca. The pictures and description are spot on. We would be glad to return here.

Thanks for all your advice and travel suggestions for us.

Travel tips

  • Don't bother renting a car, local transport is the way to go.
  • Positano and Ravello are must see's.
  • You can be serendipitous and choose to visit your towns according to weather, events, etc.
  • Restaurant La Strada and Pizzeria Jolly were great places to eat out.
  • The Walk of the Gods was an awesome hike.

Travel tips

  • Best advice from an old man sitting in the square - take the steps slowly!! We did and got a lot fitter during our week long stay.

Very good

April 2016 - For us the stay at Casa Chicca was perfect - the description was accurate, so it was just as we expected and just what we wanted: small, simple, quiet, clean and comfortable, with a beautiful terrace and view.

Fantastic

October 2015 - Casa Chicca was fantastico! My purpose was to spend 3 nights alone in a peaceful, quiet villiage on the Amalfi Coast that I could use as a base from which to walk, take photographs, interract with local residents (and practice my incipient Italian), take in the beauty and just "be".

Location "up the hill" and away from the more commercial hotels and BandBs was perfect for me. Local grocery stores were a huge bonus. I hadn't planned on doing my own cooking, but when I visited the grocers and saw the accommodations I realized the ability to prepare my own Italian meals from local spices and vegetables, produce, prosciutto, cheeses, olive oil, meats and wines was a special added bonus.

Signora Paola was a delightful and gracious host. So warm and friendly. Between her "little English" and my "little Italian", communication was just fine. She even brought me a basil plant and peperoncino (chilli pepper) for my cooking. The single cup espresso maker was another huge bonus.

The views from the terrace were breathtakingly astonishing. I loved everything about Casa Chicca. It was truly one of the greatest pleasures of my life.

Your company is extraordinary! Everyone I dealt with was professional, knowledgeable, helpful, quick to respond, warm and friendly. Your website is superb. Everything you promised was delivered, and more. Keep up the good work. My strong advice to Summer in Italy is to keep doing what you are doing and expand your business to the USA!!

Travel tips

  • Though not necessary, I would recommend having a driver bring you to the base of Duomo street if you have any significant luggage. I traveled light, so carrying luggage from the drop point to the access stairs and descending to Casa Chicca was not a problem. I believe the walk from the bus stop would be more troublesome if one were to have significant luggage. Also, I am in very good physical condition, so walking and navigating stairs was not a problem. If a guest has any limitations with walking, or handicap, this is not an advisable location.
  • I would recommend travelling with "light luggage" (shoulder bag and a carry or wheeled duffel).
  • The literature indicates 3 km to beach. Praiano is situated on the side of a mountain with a grade of 55-60 degrees. It is quite steep and the roads are parallel and serpentine down to the bottom. There are shortcuts through neighborhood staircases but it takes a while to figure that out, so initially, visitors acclimating themselves with the town will find themselves taking long winding (and beautiful) walks down the mountain.
  • I have vertigo, and often experience irrational fear of heights. Casa Chicca was not a problem for me in that regard, but there were some walking areas of Praiano that gave me some trepidation.
  • I would remind guests about bringing paper towels for the kitchen, toilet paper and soaps.
  • The bathroom and shower area was quite spacious for a 1 bedroom villa, and comfortable. The bathroom towels are very large and "thirsty".
  • Bedroom was adequate for 2 people (even though I was alone) and includes a clothes closet and chest of drawers. Bed was a little firm, but fine for me. Was also a nice little "library" of books in the bedroom on the Amalfi Coast.
  • Kitchen space was adequate for all cooking (nice gas stove and small refrigerator, with a washing machine, although I did not use washing machine), and a table for taking meals if the weather turns cold. My weather was perfect and I took my meals outside on a nice sized circular table on the wonderful terrace.
  • There is a beatiful lemon tree growing up through the terrace floor that actually sheds lemons. Also, 2 'dining" chairs at the table on the terrace, and two "sunning" or relaxation chairs.
  • There was a television in the small living area, but I never turned it on, so I can't comment about that.

April 2015 - You will love Casa Chicca if you want a relaxing holiday, a great view to wake up to, access to some wonderful steps, paths and walkways - although certainly strenuous in some areas - a place that feels less 'touristy' than some other parts of the coast, and to be able to 'eat in' with dinner on the deck, but still be within walking distance of a number of good restaurants.

The description of Casa Chicca on the Summer in Italy website is accurate and the house is very clean. It is compact but does not feel cramped.

The owner, who lives next door is friendly and helpful.

Note that the house does not have WiFi and the internet cafe in the village was not particularly reliable when we were there - it may however have been a temporary glitch.

Summer in Italy is to be commended for its professional management of the booking, and also for its friendly and helpful emails.

April 2015 - Casa Chicca was quite adequate. However, living areas were rather small. The 65 steps down and up were a bit of a challenge, as well as the long walk up and down to the bus stop. We cannot fault Summer in Italy customer service. Thank you for your attention to detail.

March 2015 - Casa Chicca was absolutely wonderful! It had everything we needed to enjoy a very relaxing and peaceful stay on the Amalfi Coast. It is a small place, but simply perfect for a couple. The terrace was a real highlight, with a perfect view of the sunrise over the Gulf of Salerno.

Because it was still March, the local bus was not running. However, the is a 10-20 minute walk down to the main road (and the SITA bus stop) is not bad, and provides beautiful views along the coast in both directions.

Overall, the ambiance and relatively private location made for an ideal romantic getaway. Casa Chicca was our little slice of paradise and we will definitely return! Thank you Signora Paola!!

Travel tips

  • Take advantage of the small shop up on Via Antico Seggio, just up the steps from the apartment. It has everything you need, without you having to go down to the main road.
  • Definitely go to Che Bonta! It is a small pizzeria/restaurant on the corner of Via Guglielmo Marconi and the main road/highway. Super-friendly staff, and great affordable pizza. We came here for half our meals out!

March 2014 - My husband and I loved Casa Chicca. We stayed there for our honeymoon. It was the perfect getaway.

We went at the end of March just before high season and it was so peaceful and quiet. The house is tiny and had everything we needed.

The view is impeccable and the owner was so helpful. We have no complaints about Casa Chicca and we'd recommend it to anyone.

Summer In Italy was very efficient. Keep up the good work!

Travel tips

  • The SITA buses are easy to use. You can get on and off on the main road in town.
  • There is a market nearby where we bought groceries.
  • There's a tiny pizzeria near Casa Chicca that is not on the main road. It's delicious and we ate there every day it was open. They are open late, which is helpful. Everything between Salerno and Sorrento is an easy day trip and very affordable.

May 2013 - This was our 3rd time at Casa Chicca.

Excellent, highly recommend, a real home from home, I hate leaving it and cant wait to return. Paola is a lovely lady, so friendly and makes you feel so much at home. I arrived alone, husband followed 3 days later, and did not feel at all nervous staying in the house or in Praiano. Its such a warm and cosy place. Didn't care if hubbie turned up or not!!!

Summer In Italy is a brilliant web site, never let us down, keep in touch, give great advice on area, would use any time we travel to Italy. Don't think to use any other site for Italian Accommodation.

Travel tips

  • Relax and make most of your stay, enjoy the excellent views and if able walk the Path of the Gods from Nocelle to Praiano, I managed it and it was excellent, what a view!!
  • ùMust go on ferry to/from Amalfi/Positano, brilliant.
  • Local shops are great, everything you need, lady in shop at St Luca is brilliant, had a laugh over burgers!!!
  • Local bus service is excellent and so much cheaper than SITA bus 1.50 euro to Positano from St Luca.

Travel tips

April 2013 - We has a great time at Casa Chicca.

I was hoping that there would be more bars or restaurants a bit nearer... the walk into the village was fine, but the walk back up hill was a little more demanding! The apartment itself was more than adequate for our needs. We ate a breakfast of bread and fruit on the terrace each morning and had a picnic tea one night of bread, ham, cheese and olives etc, other than that we ate out every night.

There isn't really anywhere to park so we tended to go out for the day and not come back until we were ready to finish the day with a beer on the terrace. All in all a lovely holiday and we would love to go back one day.

I would definitely use Summer in Italy again. The service felt very personal. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • Very quiet... other than the famous church bells which really do chime every 15 mins day and night, but we got used to it very quickly and they didn't bother us at all.

Excellent service, great communication and helpful information from yourselves, regarding travel from Napoli to Praiano. Couldn't fault you on anything, so glad we found your web site. Thanks.

August 2012 - Had a great time at Casa Chicca. Ideal place to laze or explore the Amalfi coast. Small but more than adequate for two people, great terrace and stunning views. Exactly as depicted by Summer in Italy and all went according to plan. Great service and Mrs Paola [the owner] pleasant but unobtrusive.

All was as you said it would be. Very pleased. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • The orange local bus is a great service but the timetable is confusing first off. Basically the bus starts in Positano and travels to Praiano stopping in San Luca square before descending the hill by another route and going to the Marina. It then returns to San Luca (Praiano) before going back to Positano. This is why San Luca appears twice on the timetable. So first on timetable goes to Marina and second is service returning from Marina to Positano.
  • You must visit Restaurant Mare Petit at the Marina, sample Mama's cooking and Salvatore's hospitality... outstanding!

August 2012 - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Chicca and were happy with our accommodation. The terrace was an area we used quite extensively and were pleased at the amount of space it gave us which compensated for the limited space indoors.

Travel tips

  • Be aware that the distance to the beach areas is quite a trek and the climb back up does take it out of you. You can take public transport for part of the journey. It may not suit people who have any difficulties getting around.

June 2012 - We enjoyed our week in Casa Chicca. It could have been better if the weather had not been so wet and gloomy on the first two days! I did not expect it to last for that long, nor for the temperature to drop that much in mid June. The interesting thing was that the view from the terrace changed every day, according to the weather. Out of seven days, we could see there was a nice hilly coast across the water on only one clear morning. The following day, we could hardly make out the outline of the hills we had seen the previous day!

We definitely enjoyed our stay in Casa Chicca and would recommend it without hesitation.

We were very impressed with the friendly and prompt advice we received to our queries.

May 2012 - Casa Chicca was marvelous. My husband and myself had a very comfortable relaxing holiday.

The accommodation was perfect. Very clean and tidy, bedroom was beautiful with doors opening onto the terrace, a perfect sized kitchen/dining/living area, actually everything you need for a perfect holiday.

Sit back, relax, enjoy the splendid views while listening to the tranquil chimes of the local church (this made my holiday, when I got home I really missed the chimes). At Casa Chicca you forget what time it is and what day it is. A very short walk to town, shop and bar very nearby. Praiano is a delightful town so close to Amalfi and Sorrento. Transport very frequent. Loved the little secluded beach short walk towards Amalfi, few excellent bars there, quiet beach but not deserted, perfect.

We didn't want to leave.

By chance we came across Summer in Italy. Excellent service, would highly recommend and will definitely book again with yourselves. Made our whole experience relaxing, why bother with package tours. April 2012 - We very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Chicca. It is quite small, but adequate for two people.

Unfortunately we did have some rain and could not always sit outside. Then the living room is a little small. The owner was very friendly but unobtrusive. We were able to park for free on a nearby street.

The view was beautiful but unfortunately, you don't get sun in the evenings and see the sunset from the terrace as it faces East. Instead it was nice and sunny in the mornings at breakfast.

The bed was comfortable and the bedroom was a good size. The kitchen is well-equipped. The bathroom is large enough and plenty of hot water. The washing machine was a great asset as we had been travelling a long time.

We were there in April and the weather was not always good, and it was cold at nights. A small heater would have been an advantage.

We found your service excellent.

Paola [the owner] was friendly, helpful and not at all intrusive but lives right next door so available if you do need help.

Overall found you informative, reliable and accurate in your property description. We will definitely use you again. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • We chose to arrive by boat from Naples rather than the train and bus route. It's a bit more expensive, 15 euros, but a lovely introduction to the Sorrento peninsula with Capri looming up impressively.
  • You will probably think of going to Pompeii but do go to Paesteum, south of Salerno, to see the most extraordinary Greek temples, well worth the trip. Ignore the guide books and get the train from Salerno to Paesteum, its much quicker than the bus.
  • Praia beach is the most easily accessible local beach. You can walk down past Tutto per Tutti and then get the local bus back up.
  • We enjoyed meeting Sandulli, the artist in the Torre - worth a visit.

August 2011 - We booked Casa Chicca as our honeymoon accommodation and were really, really pleased! Signora Paola is really lovely, but very hands off unless you need her. The apartment is located a few steps down the hill from her house and next to another apartment, but it felt very secluded and private. The terrace was quite big with a beautiful lemon tree outside the French windows from the bedroom, plus a little table and chairs, 2 loungers and a rack to hang your washing (the house had a washing machine which is very handy...) and sun or shade to sit in.

The living room is only little, but I don't think anyone would want to sit inside anyway with such a beautiful view! We happily sat for hours just looking at the sea and had to drag ourselves away to go to the beach or explore the town.

Praiano itself was lovely. Much less touristic than the other towns along the coast, and Casa Chicca seemed to be in a very residential area. To get there you go down a flight of steps from the piazza where all the local families congregate in the evenings. The only reason I could not rate Casa Chicca as excellent for peace and quiet was because the bells from the church above chime all night. However, I am a very light sleeper and it really didn't bother me. After a day or 2 I had to listen out for the chimes as I'd stopped noticing them. In fact I found it quite comforting and loved not needing a watch!

I cannot recommend Casa Chicca enough and we will definitely be returning and sending friends!

Travel tips

  • We had a great boat trip to Capri. If you book at the tourist office it was cheaper, I think. The boat was great and our capitano was lovely. I had been worried about getting seasick but there was shade and as the boat was quite fast the breeze kept us cool and there was no rocking! The boat took us to Capri (via the Li Galli islands) and we were shown main features and looked at the grotte. Then we were dropped at the port and had about 5 hours to look around. On the way back we stopped to have a swim and then went back along the coast past Positano. A really great day!
  • We also took a boat to Naples at the end of our trip. We took the bus to Amalfi, then got the ferry from there. If you're not good on windy roads then I'd recommend it, as on the way there we took the slow train from Naples to Sorrento, then the bus. It takes a long time and though the view is amazing, it's awful if you get carsick.

May 2011 - Casa Chicca is an enjoyable small house for 1 or 2 persons. Next to owners' house who are welcoming but discrete. The view is the most spectacular from the large and isolated terrace.

The house is equipped enough to prepare food almost like at home, and its washing machine is very appreciated.

The bathroom is large and convenient, but the bedroom has not much space left since the bed is very large. Overall, I can say: small but convenient house. Furnitures are modern, practical and big enough for two people.

Very efficient service from Summer in Italy. No surprise vacation, everything was exactly like described in advertisement on web site. Thank you so much again.

Travel tips

  • Between five and ten minutes walk from 2 grocery stores and 2 minutes walk from bus stop. But for workout enthusiasts, there are lots of long stairs between main slope streets in Praiano, just like in all other cities.
  • Beginning of May is quiet and warm in Praiano, with not many tourists.
  • Praiano offers all services for no worry vacation (bank, restos, stores, Internet cafe, etc.) and is situated half way to more touristic cities like Amalfi and Positano.
  • No need of a car or scooter to travel around the coast, daily buses and frequent trains serve it very well.
  • Overall, wonderful 2 week vacation I spent in Praiano and around the coast, from Sorrento to Amalfi. Unforgettable and unique places I had the privilege to visit. Italians' way of life is highly enviable, especially on the Amalfitan Coast. April 2011 - We enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment was perfect for our needs and in a very beautiful, quiet location. There was a great sense of being made welcome by the village community.

Travel tips

  • There are some very lovely restaurants on the main road, in particular, we had a very special meal at Hotel Il Pino with an amazing view of the sunset.
  • The little local bus is very useful but the route and timetable takes a little getting used to. The local bus fares (€1.50 single) are not included in the 3T tourist ticket which mainly covers SITA buses and trains (though at €20 for 3 days is excellent value).
  • There is a great little provisions shop very near the apartment, just on the way down the hill (the lady who runs it speaks no English but with a few words of basic Italian, some mutual good will and well chosen gesticulations you'll get all the basics) and a bigger (tardis-like) shop in the centre of the village with an amazing wine cellar and selling everything you could want.
  • One of the highlights of our trip was taking a small RIB tour to Capri along the coast, exploring the islands and caves on the way, from the little marina of Praia (at the other end of the local bus route to Positano).

I appreciated that the house was located in a pedestrian part of the village.

The living room was small, but ok for two persons.

I think your information was outstanding, and all contacts were smooth and rapid, thank you!

Travel tips

  • I would prefer to go by bus to see the Amalfi coast stretch. It is more relaxing than try to fit into the traffic in the small and winding roads.
  • I could recommend long walks in the area. I especially appreciated Fiordo di Furore and the mountain mule tracks. One should not go for walks in the mountains without good fitness status, appropriate clothing/sun shield, and carry water and food supplies. Don't have the ambition to walk many miles per hour. You will (or should) spend much time to admire the fantastic views and catch your breath after walking uphill. Never forget that all steps you descend are steps you need to climb!

October 2010 - I liked staying there - absolutely. Of course, it,s a matter of personal taste. I especially liked the nearby church, its piazza and atmosphere. I also enjoyed having a look into the neighbouring garden and the sea view is wonderful.

The apartment is ideal for one person or a couple. It is also very handy for people who enjoy walking as you can start off for walks right at the church.

Travel tips

  • If you like walking - go past the church, turn left at the next flight of stairs(it's long...) and climb up to the top (have a break in between). On the top turn right and walk along a small paved street that turns into a path leading you out of the village and into a beautiful, lovely forest. Just follow the path and it will lead up. There are some signposts giving you different options. If you keep on climbing, you will get close to a village and the "Sentiero degli Dei",which you can walk till Positano - if you want to (if not, turn downwards at the monastery). The walk upwards is about 1 hour, to Positano about 2-3 hours.

  • If you're coming from Rome it's quite a hike to get there. Two hours on a train to Naples, 1 hour train to Sorrento, 50 min bus to Praiano, then a 10 minute (vertical!) walk up to the Casa or a 5 minute local bus/10 Euro cab. So be prepared for it taking most of your day.
  • The Open Gate is an amazing restaurant nearby literally on the edge of the cliff.
  • Plan to do a lot of walking or organise your day with the bus schedule in mind. The buses are great, always on time, but with a 1-2 hour gap between each one.

June 2010 - We loved Casa Chicca!

Its location was right in the middle of the two main areas for dining and the 2 beaches in Praiano. It is a good walk in either direction to get to restaurants or the beach, but that means that Casa Chicca is very peaceful and quiet.

The terrace and view are absolutely fantastic.

Inside, the "size small" version of everything you need is there, and we enjoyed cooking in and watching TV on quiet days.

Everything was clean and neat.

The owner lives right next door and was a very gracious host, though she was careful to allow us plenty of privacy.

We were given the recommendation for Summer In Italy by a friend who uses it. We were pleased with every aspect of the service, from selection to booking to the information we were given and the apartment itself. We will definitely recommend Summer In Italy to others... we already have!

Travel tips

  • The best market for food and wine is on the walk down to the marina where the larger beach is, but be careful how much you buy because you have to walk it all back up the steps!
  • There is a closer but smaller market just outside the tunnel leading into the Chiesa San Luca square, near the bus stop, if you need something fast.

May 2010 - Lovely terrace with a very nice view, little alimentari and similar shops within 5-10 minutes walk of the apartment.

Kitchen was well-stocked with various utensils, pots, pans, etc.

The church bell chimes every 15 minutes 24 hours/day. It's actually quite charming, and after a few days we didn't notice it most of the time. We had no trouble sleeping, but extremely light sleepers may benefit from earplugs.

Travel tips

  • The directions are a bit confusing after you're on foot as the "streets" are not labeled with traditional logic. Once you go under the arch, just go down the last stairway on your right before the church, on the edge of the piazza. The apartment is all the way at the bottom through a greenish metal gate.
  • Also, you may need to purchase toilet paper, paper towels, and hand/dish soap unless a previous guest has left some behind.

October 2009 - We enjoyed it immensely. It is not spacious but is perfect for a couple and, as we spent most of the time on the lovely terrace, it never felt too small. One day when the Siberian wind blew through (with rain) we spent most of the day reading and watching TV and still it just felt cozy and warm.

We were pleasantly surprised to be there for the feast of San Luca; there was procession, fireworks, a carnival and other activities so the townspeople had the day off from work and school. Everyone was happy and it was very festive.

I would caution anyone who has difficulty with stairs that this is probably not the place for you. Actually, that could be said for much of the Amalfi Coast, given the terrain. There is little flat area so one is nearly always going uphill or down. People with limited stamina should probably go elsewhere.

This was our first trip using your service and we will definitely return and recommend you. From the friendly, helpful emails before the trip to the thorough information about the property and the area, I could not have asked for anything else. Hanno fatti una bella figura, tutti! I hope that is close to correct ;-)

Travel tips

  • While the local (orange) bus runs frequently during some times of day, there is a nearly 2-hour gap in the evening (4:45 - 6:30 I believe). We found several agreeable places to have a drink and wait for the next bus. Also, Casa Chicca is at the last bus stop but it is not obvious that it is the last until the bus goes in reverse to turn around. We were in the back of the bus the first time and Sra. Paola had to yell "Casa Chicca" onto the bus as we could not see that we had arrived at a dead-end square.
  • The shops in Praiano Alto are small but surprisingly well-stocked. The women in the grocery and butcher shop were incredibly sweet and helpful.
  • We were very fortunate to be there as the figs were ripening. I have to confess we "borrowed" a few off of the tree in front of our terrace: delicious with prosciutto!

  • Easy place to get around and also access to main bus route to travel out of the area.
  • Lots of great hiking in the area above town, recommend the old Monastery of San Domenico.
  • Good restaurant in town is Restaurant La Strada, they have a terrace on the roof.
  • There is an artist's studio (Paolo Sandulli) in one of the old towers - Torre a Mare - sculpture and paintings - which was really fun.

September 2009 - It was perfect for our holiday, small but with everything we needed.

The terrace was the icing on the cake, waking up and sitting on the terrace with a cup of tea was fantastic.

Travel tips

  • Bring your walking shoes, there are shops close by but you'll need to pick up a bus timetable for the local bus service or face a big hill on your way back home!

July 2009 - My wife and I had a fantastic time at Casa Chicca in Praiano.

We were fortunate enough to witness a festival of Saint Luca which is held on the first Sunday in July.

Mrs Paola and her family were very welcoming and a special thanks to "mamma".

We would definitely recommend this to our friends.

Cost was of consideration when I first began my search. I did not even know where Praiano was!

The credit card payments were correct and timely. Your web site is very informative.

You are very welcome to give my email address as a reference for Summer in Italy.

Travel tips

  • It is easier to park the car around the bend from the San Domenico convent entrance. It is a good 7-8 mins walk. But at least you know it is safe there.
  • Park the car and take the bus into Positano. It saves on the parking hassles and the bus ride is great!

July 2009 - The website showed a very clean, pretty, fresh, bright cottage and I can tell you it was even better than expected.

The terrace is so private, shaded with a great view and many hours were spent relaxing.

I look forward to returning to Casa Chicca, hopefully next year.

Your service is first class, so quick to respond to any request, even at weekends. Directions and information was totally correct.

Travel tips

  • Perfect for one or two people, with the main emphasis on the terrace. You need to be fit however, to climb the stairs each day.

April 2009 - We did enjoy our stay at Casa Chicca.

The owner was very helpful.

The parking was difficult but not impossible.

The view was wonderful and it was a great value for the price.

We enjoyed the Summer In Italy newsletters as did our entire Italian classmates.

November 2008 - We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Chicca - the owner was very helpful and the house was really well equipped.

If you are a very light sleeper bring earplugs - the bells of Saint Luca seem to be rung at very strange times - typically at around 20 past the hour from 7 am and winding up around 11 pm - there is also the possibility that novice bell ringers may be charged with this responsibility as at times it sounded quite chaotic.

The view was amazing and the house was well positioned for exploring the hills or working up an appetite by walking down to the beach.

Travel tips

  • We caught the train from Naples to Salerno arriving at approximately 8 pm to discover the buses to Praiano had stopped running - we caught a taxi but at 50 Euros its not the most cost effective means - following the travel advice provided by "Summer in Italy" is probably best.
  • Take your own sturdy shopping bags for getting groceries - we found prices are actually cheaper at the small store at the top of the hill (you pass it on your left just before the start of the 'pedestrian only' section) but for variety head down Via Domas to the larger supermarket Tutto per Tutti. Be prepared for fresh fruit and veg to look a little bedraggled and also buy your milk the night before as often the milk truck doesn't make its deliveries to the shops till around 8 am - a painful wait if you're hanging for a morning coffee.

July 2008 - This was a wonderful property, in a delightful location. The property was as described, pretty and compact, and pleasantly simple. All the important things were there: a good bed, a refreshing shower, and an effective fridge.

The terrace is the jewel in the crown, however. We enjoyed a few lovely meals and glasses of Chianti outdoors, with either the shimmer of the sun, or the romantic sparkle of moonlight. Despite being on the world-famous Amalfi coast, Praiano has a lovely, non-touristy feel about it.

It was a very memorable honeymoon, set in a lovely little apartment in a special little town.

I have already recommended Summer In Italy to many of my friends. A good website, friendly, quick and professional communication, and comprehensive information. Well done, and a big thanks from me and my new wife!

Travel tips

  • Public transport is great. We used the Sorrento-Positano-Praiano-Amalfi service (run by SITA) for arrival/departure, and for visits.
  • There's also a very handy little bus run by the Flavio Gioia company, which goes from Positano-Praiano-Upper-Praiano, Upper Praiano being very near the apartment.
  • All the bus services ran until late (midnight-ish), so there was no need to rush back, nor book taxis for a night out.
  • We visited Positano twice (very easy, as you can just take the Flavio Gioia bus), Amalfi, Herculaneum and Sorrento. I found Sorrento a bit too touristy, but Positano and Amalfi surpassed expectations. Herculaneum involved an early start (to get there at opening time to avoid the midday sun and the crowds), but was fascinating.
  • In Praiano itself we had a lovely meal at the La Brace restaurant, with a gorgeous view.
  • The Bar Del Sole is a lively, friendly bar. And when I was charged 8 euros for four wines, I thought they'd forgotten to charge me for two of them (they hadn't!). On another visit, my 3 euro whisky must have been a triple if not quadruple in size. Very nice, and very generous.
  • For food, we used three shops. Near where the little bus drops off is a little cold meat and grocery shop. It's handy because it's on the same level as the apartment. On a street further down (via Umberto I), there were two mini-markets. Reasonably well stocked, but about 100 steps down (and back with the groceries!). If you timed it right, you could use the small bus, however.
  • A few tips about the apartment - all as advised in the description (so no surprise). First, it's down about 30-35 steep steps, so exercise those thigh muscles before you arrive! Second, it's going to be warm at night during the summer. The owner provided an electric fan, which was very useful in getting a comfortable temperature. Third, it's near the clock tower, which chimes every quarter hour, even through the night. I liked it - it gave a sense of community. But if you sleep light, you might not be so taken by it.
