A wonderful apartment in a beautiful location

May 2019 - Apartment Magnolia is a wonderful apartment in a beautiful location. It is spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. It has a spacious terrace and also a designated area beside the pool. We were extremely happy with this apartment and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We were extremely happy with the apartment and I cannot think of anything that needed improvement.

I am very happy with the service from Summer In Italy. You provided us with all the necessary information to help us enjoy our stay. We booked with you because of your very competitive price. I would be very happy to book with you again.

Travel tips

  • We found the local shops quite satisfactory. There is a small delicatessen and a fruit/vegetable store in Atrani, which are easily accessed on foot down the steps from the apartment, approx 5 mins away. The Spar supermarket is a 10-15 min walk up the steps from the apartment. We tended to eat out so didn't need to buy large supplies and managed to get what we needed from these shops.
  • The walk to Amalfi is 10-15 mins from Atrani and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from.
  • We were glad we didn't hire a car as the driveway to the apartments is very narrow and we wouldn't have made use of it during our week.
  • We took boat trips to Positano, Capri and Sorrento which were really enjoyable and meant we didn't need a designated driver!
  • We took the bus to Ravello from Amalfi, tickets cannot be purchased on the bus and are sold in the ticket office in Amalfi. In May the last bus from Ravello was at 9.30 which we missed and a taxi was approx €20.

Outstanding views

July 2018 - Spacious airy apartment, with outstanding views.

Summer in Italy is a fabulous company. Your service is second to none. I would use you again and highly recommend you to family and friends. Many thanks for your great customer service.

Travel tips

  • If you plan to use a large vehicle on your stay, find somewhere else! The drive from the road to the apartment is hideous and not for the fainthearted.
  • Locals very friendly.
  • Food at Atrani very good value for money, especially Mistral.
  • Very unspoiled uncommercialised area of the Amalfi Coast.

Beautiful location with great views

September 2017 - Apartment Magnolia is in a beautiful location with great views. Although the apartment is fairly basic, it has everything you need and is reasonably priced for the general area it is in. The only thing you do need to be aware of is that there are a lot of stairs you need to negotiate to walk anywhere from the complex. The amazing view comes at a cost of these stairs which can be exhausting to navigate if you're not in the best of health. The pool is perfect, set again in a beautiful ridge but again those steps feature in getting to and from this. Personally I would stay here again, but some of the group did struggle with the steps.

The experience of using Summer In Italy company has been great, have no issues and would use you again when I next visit the amazing Amalfi Coast.

Travel tips

  • The area is beautiful, so just enjoy the many wonderful places to visit in the local area being close to Amalfi.
  • The network of local Sita buses is great if you want to travel the coast at a very low cost.

Fantastic

August 2015 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Apartment Magnolia was very good with lots of space, a lovely pool, gardens and the most spectacular view. We enjoyed the walk down to Atrani which is a gorgeous small town with places to eat and a small beach. The location was ideal and I’d definitely recommend staying here.

A few things left in the kitchen by previous guests such as salt, coffee or washing up liquid would be handy as navigating the steep hill and road to Ravello to get to the supermarket is a challenge on first arrival.

Thank you for our stay, it was such a beautiful place, very clean and with well tended grounds. Would recommend to others.

The customer service from Summer In Italy is the best I've ever had. Your communication, information and prompt replies to queries has been greatly appreciated and I would recommend you company to others. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • Get some shopping supplies on route as you won't want to head back up the extremely steep hill in the car to the supermarket when you first arrive. There is no basic supplies on arrival.
  • The gate to the apartment is in the middle of a section of road where there are lights about 3k apart to allow one way traffic as the road is winding and narrow.
  • On leaving the apartment, wait to see which way the traffic flows before joining.

Fantastic

September 2013 - The location is beautiful. Although there are 10 apartments in total there is sufficient space for everyone to have privacy and use the facilities (pool etc).

The view is amazing and the town of Atrani is pleasantly quiet compared to the more busy Amalfi around the corner.

The walks around here are great. We really enjoyed our stay.

July 2013 - We loved Casa Tertulla. It was a beautiful apartment and you could sit out on the huge balcony all day it was such an amazing view.

The grounds were lovely and the pool area very relaxing. We enjoyed every minute there.

Great communication and very helpful. Excellent company and if I return to the Amalfi Coast would definitely use again.

Travel tips

  • It is a very easy walk to Atrani and it is such a lovely village and piazza. Walking back up takes a little more stamina.

Very good

June 2013 - We had a wonderful time at Casa Tertulla.

Very comfortable and facilities very good, lots of hot water for bath and shower. Lots of steps but we were ready for this: we carried our 16 month old granddaughter in a backpack. Pillows were rather old and need replacement but other bedding fine. We were bad at recycling which seemed to annoy caretaker but there was insufficient bins in the apartment to divide all rubbish into the six different types.

We will definitely visit again, Atrani was a delight. Summer in Italy could not have been more helpful and we will use them again.

Travel tips

  • Recycle as requested.
  • Don't bring a car - use Claudio as recommended by Summer in Italy, very efficient and always arrived on time.

August 2012 - Casa Tertulla was perfect for our party of seven as it was spacious, light filled, and cool with the breeze that was always blowing through the valley.

The location was ideal as it was an easy walk to Amalfi and we even walked to Ravello once. The pathway from Atrani to Ravello runs right by the main entrance to the house. The walk down to Atrani and the beach is about 400 steps but we took our time and admired the views along the way.

The view from the villa's terrace is amazing. The pool area was very beautiful and the gardens well kept. We enjoyed many evenings there after returning from the beach and before heading down to Atrani for dinner.

Atrani was a wonderful escape from the crowds in Amalfi and Positano. The Piazza Umberto I in the village looks like an opera set. We spent many mornings there having cappuccinos and drinks in the evening before dinner. There were several good restaurants in Atrani as well.

We found the caretaker to be pleasant and although he speaks no English he always had someone to translate whenever we had any interaction.

The drive down to the villa from the main road is unbelievable at first but after a few times it was not a problem. This place is worth the trouble. Just make sure you hire a small car!

This was the second time we've used Summer in Italy and both times have had a hassle-free experience.

August 2011 - The villa is in a beautiful position, perched on the cliff side overlooking Altrani and the sea below. It's a bit of a harrowing narrow snake drive down to the parking space but very much worth it for the villa and view.

We loved the pool which was large and clean with surrounding sun loungers, there were more people sharing the pool than we had anticipated but it was still fine. We had a wonderful time and were glad we had chosen the villa with a terrace.

Travel tips

  • The whole complex is on a steep hill, so I would think twice if you are disabled or infirm and its over 350 steps up from the village to the villa [walk or use the bus].
  • We didn't go on the beach as it was very crowded and busy, but we enjoyed the bars and restaurants and often walked around to Amalfi in the evenings.
  • There were some lovely walks and amazing views and Ravello was just beautiful.
  • You can drive on the windy road, but its not for the faint-hearted!

April 2011 - Spectacular location - great views.

Quite a hairy drive up to the entrance and then down the very steep twisting drive.

Plenty of room inside the apartment.

Lovely walking down into Atrani and across to Amalfi - and up to Ravello.

I think you described this property very well - it is in a spectacular spot and we had a good time. Thanks.

Travel tips

  • Remember to take at least a sweater if you're going early or late season - this villa faces due south and so is in shade early morning and from 4-5 pm - and it gets quite cold then.
  • Sensible shoes/trainers for all those steps.

September 2009 - Lovely Villa with an amazing view and grounds. The grounds has a variety of trees and vegetables which allows you to go and pick your own fresh fruit and vegetables as you wish and for us that was an added value to this villa.

My only criticism of this Villa is the housekeeper. he was very unpleasant and unhelpful. I did not expect him to speak fluent English but he did not even try to cooperate with our broken Italian - so a warning to all the future guests. Make sure you know your essential Italian words otherwise you are TRAPPED!

Thank you so much, Atoussa, for giving us the opportunity to highlight one of the services we offer to guests who book with us: free 24/7 telephone interpretation. Some of the finest Italian vacation homes are owned and/or managed by Italians who do not speak English. We are proud to be able to assist our guests with a bilingual staff to help them overcome any difficulty. All it takes is a quick phone call to let us know what you need -- no sooner said than done!

Travel tips

  • Be aware that the house keeper can not speak a word of English so you better know the basics so that you can communicate with him.
  • Secondly, while the Villa is absolutely gorgeous it is not close to any nearby shops, so depending on your arrival time make sure you have some food with you.
  • Lastly, the Villa involves taking many steps to get to Amalfi Coast. of course you can always take the bus, but if you decide to take the steps, expect to take about 300+ steps: easy steps and excellent exercises. Other than that a gorgeous getaway!
  • Oh one other thing, Italian take their recycling very seriously, so make sure you trash your papers, bottles, recyclable and non-recyclable trash into appropriate bins.

August 2009 - The house is lovely... The driveway is hellish. Unbelievably narrow, with 8 hairpin turns, and only a small rock wall between you and the cliff. I would not bring a car here again. We drove for a week in the Amalfi Coast and ended up with three major dents in the rental car all sustained in the driveway. Thank goodness we had collision coverage.

Mr. Nicola, the caretaker, does not speak English and was only slightly helpful - he only gave us one set of keys to our unit, which was really difficult for our group of 8, and he did not explain to us how to exchange the dirty linens, so we didn't get clean towels midweek.

Summer In Italy were quite helpful and efficient. The process of renting was very easy. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • This is a beautiful place to relax and soak up the sun, but think again if you are going to make it the base for outings throughout the Amalfi coast. If your goal is to see the entire Amalfi Coast, I would try to stay closer to Sorrento, so you have easier access to the Circumvesuviana train which will take you to Ercolano, Pompeii, and Naples.
  • Casa Tertulla offers a communal clothes washing machine, although it is not listed on the profile. There is also an iron above the pool, but no dryer, only a clothes rack.
  • Bring your own beach towels.
  • The best thing that we did here was to take hike over a mountain path to Ravello through lemon groves and grape vines. It was just breathtaking.

April 2009 - We really enjoyed Casa Tertulla.

Summer in Italy was very helpful during our stay. The caretaker indicated that we would be charged extras for garbage and linens so that was kind of a surprise but you were able to sort it out.

Here is something important: guests who book with us are always entitled to better conditions, such as lower rates or free extras. Caretakers who handle many apartments on rare occasion might get confused. In that case, feel free to show them the page of your travel documents which clearly enumerates what local expenses you have to pay (if any). If any doubt arises the caretaker knows that we are available over the phone to clarify. We have a promise for you: you will never pay more than what is written on your travel documents, which is exactly what is shown on our web site at the time of booking.

Travel tips

  • Anyone staying at Casa Tertulla should be in reasonably good shape as there are many stairs involved to get up and down to the village of Atrani. The villa was very well kept and had gorgeous views down to Atrani. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was unseasonably cold while we were there in April and there is no central heating which we never considered at the time of booking. The caretaker does not speak any English but any questions were efficiently dealt with by Summer in Italy. Our stay was great and we would go back again in the future.

October 2008 - We really enjoyed our week at Casa Tertulla. It was for our anniversary and our eldest sons birthday. The time of year meant there were not so many tourists, so you could feel the real atmosphere of Italy and the locals were very friendly and could not do enough for you.

If you stay here you need to be fairly fit. The local town of Atrani is at the bottom of 390 or so steps. If you want to drive there, you can, it would take about 10 minutes. The driveway down to the villa from the main road is narrow steep and zig zags sharply so the use of a smaller car would be better than say an estate car. The driveway is well maintained though.

If you are in a group it would be advisable to ask for more than one set of keys as it could affect your holiday if you were waiting for other members of your party to arrive with the keys to let you in, especially if you had been out in another vehicle and you could not get through the electronically operated gates with your car.

We would definitely recommend staying here as the villa is well maintained, clean and has gorgeous views down to the town of Atrani and above to Ravello. The swimming pool was a little cold for this time of year but it was still pleasant enough to sit and sunbathe by.

We found summer in Italy to be a very friendly and helpful organisation who kept us in the picture about anything that needed doing.

August 2008 - Lovely comfortable villa with brilliant views over the bay and good rooms.

This villa is built into a cliff so tackling the drive by car takes nerve but you get used to it, the 340 steps down to the town are fine so long as you have comfortable shoes. My 6 year old managed it (and counted) but I wouldn't bring anyone younger and certainly no pushchairs.

Great location for visiting Amalfi, Pompeii, Sorrento, etc.

Really peaceful and quiet unless you have neighbours who stay out late and come back noisy.

I found you through Internet search and would look for you again - perfectly helpful - thank you!

Travel tips

  • A great day out is the boat trip from Amalfi to Sorrento and Positano, but start early - it takes a while to walk up through Sorrento and see it all.
  • Buy food etc on your way in so that you don't have the get the car out more than you want to or carry.
  • Pompeii is best done early when its cool, so get there for 8.30 am when it opens, hit the sights and then chill!

June 2008 - The pool area was magnificent.

The apartment was in an ideal location for walking down to the village of Atrani, be prepared to walk down many steps but it was always an enjoyable trek. The way back up to the apartment by foot was also reasonable if you took your time!!

A bus was also regular to get off at the gate of the villa.

All information was excellent - directions were perfect.

Travel tips

August 2006 - The views were fantastic. The distance to Ravello town without a car is very very far so it is expensive in taxi cabs. However, for those that are fit you are walk down to Atrani (10 mins) and then onto Amalfi (further 10 mins) but be prepared to have to walk back up the steps...!!

Pool was lovely and never packed and the villa itself was fine.

The gentleman in charge of the upkeep is nice but speaks no English so be prepared to communicate the best you can!
