Vin Brule' is the Italian version of warm mulled wine, especially welcome in the northern mountains. This recipe hails from the Lake Maggiore area, where it's really nice to sip in front of a fire while admiring the views of the lake!

Vin Brule' - Mulled Wine

A bottle of dry red wine
8 cloves
Pinch of nutmeg
2 sticks of cinnamon
1 lemon
1 orange
2-3 tablespoons sugar or honey

Either peel or slice the citrus. Some people like just a little flavor, others prefer the whole fruit with the juice be added.

In a saucepan, place the spices and sugar or honey, and the citrus peels or slices. Pour in some of the wine, stir to dissolve the sugar, then add the rest.

Heat over medium and simmer for five minutes. Let cool a few minutes, then serve warm.
