The young people that run this lovely restaurant in the very centre of Volterra, with two roomy locals, have spiced up the Tuscan menu with international touches and made it a moderately priced and friendly neighbourhood hangout.

The polenta served with wild boar and porcini al ragù is excellent, as is the odd "tagliatelle de sacco", fresh pasta enveloped in saffron-chicken sauce studded with fresh vegetables. For a secondo, try "costolette d'agnello gratinate con carciofi" (broiled lamb chops with artichokes).
