This beautiful village counting something more than four thousand souls, is located on the border between the Val di Chiana and the Chianti. It must be an obligatory tourist stop for those who want to breathe the atmosphere of the Crete Senesi and fortify their body with the waters of the San Giovanni Spa and the Antica Querciolaia Spa.

Rapolano historically belonged to the Counts Scialenghi since the twelfth century, under the protection of Siena. The membership to the city of Siena was the cause of many incursions and destruction by the enemies of Siena, especially from Arezzo, which culminated in the complete destruction of the castle of Rapolano and the Castle di Armaiolo by the Spaniards and the Florentines, in 1554.

Since then Rapolano lived primarily with thanks to its travertine quarries and hot thermal springs which were also visited by our national hero, Giuseppe Garibaldi to heal the wounds he got in Aspromonte.
