Established by the last count of the noble Querini Stampalia family, this "casa-museo" shows off the princely residence as well as an impressive art collection. Located in the Castello district, it is, like most museums and attractions in Venice, housed in an historic palace. The foundation was established in 1869 when the last count gifted it to the city, along with his notable archives and library, making them available to the masses. The museum portion is in the salons of the ducal apartments and the residence itself is part of the display. The furnishings and tapestries maintain a living chronicle of 18th century taste and decor.

There are hundred of paintings that include baroque, rococo and contemporary styles, and include works by Bellini, Pietro Longhi, Tiepolo and post-impressionist Venetian artists. Don't miss the modern garden created by Carlo Scarpa, and the cafe is a special place to enjoy an aperitivo. The foundation hosts chamber music evenings on weekends in the summer months.

The Querini Stampalia Museum is open from 10:00 AM til 7:00 PM; closed Mondays.
