The provincial museum Castromediano in Lecce is a treasure trove of archeological artifacts and of beautiful artwork, a place that will take you by surprise.

With an impressive collection and well laid-out displays and exhibition space, this museum-which offers free entry- gives a great glimpse of Puglia's history through several millennia. There are pieces from the Messapi people, from the Roman domination and more.

The art gallery section displays paintings from the 1400s through the 1700s, with an array of styles and artists.

The museum is free, and is a recommended stop while in Lecce.

The Lecce Provincial Museum Sigismondo Castromediano is open daily from 9:00 AM til 1:30 PM and from 2:30 PM til 7:30 PM. Sundays open only in the morning.
