Principina a Mare

The seaside village of Principina a Mare is at the Mediterranean shoreline that is part of the city of Grosseto in Tuscany. It is beach oasis backed by pine woods.

Principina was planned as tranquil summer community, with the homes and shops ensconced among the trees. This isn't a "party beach" but a relaxing and quiet destination. The beach has been awarded the coveted Bandiera Blu for its cleanliness. There are spots where you'll find concessions that rent umbrellas and chairs along with refreshments and services, as well as long stretches of natural beach.

The wide sand beach to the north is left in its natural state. With the driftwood that accumulates and the dunes and Mediterranean scrub and trees behind it, it feels like being on a tropical island. To the south is the Parco Regionale della Maremma, a protected nature preserve, so you'll find plenty of places to enjoy the sea in relative privacy and tranquility.

There are shops and services in Principina, and the city of Grosseto is just a few minutes away. Beyond Grosseto is the road that leads to Siena. To the south of Principina you'll find the beautiful "island" promontory of Monte Argentario. To the north is Punta Ala. The island of Elba is visible off the coast. Don't miss nearby Massa Marittima, an Etruscan jewel with a gorgeous cathedral and other monuments. Principina a Mare is in the Maremma region of Tuscany, a wild and natural place of low hills and wide sandy beaches.
