A grand event of historic traditions and modern fun takes place every May in Jesi. The city returns to its medieval roots when it celebrates the feast day of its patron saint, San Floriano. The festa started as a religious observation in honor of the martyrdom of San Floriano, with delegates on horseback bringing candles and materials to create draperies for the church each year. It became a more elaborate affair through the years, culminating in the communal authorities and dignitaries arriving in procession to present the offerings to the saint in the church. After the solemn religious observances, the nobility sponsored dances and games, with the winner receiving a silver ring.

Today's celebrations bring those traditions into play, with an elaborate parade in costume, of nobles and commoners alike, accompanied by games of skill and parties in the piazza. It's a sight to behold, and a fun event to partake of if you find yourself around Jesi the second week of May.
