The humble hammer isn't something many people reflect on, but it's the object of a museum that is more interesting than you may think. The history of the useful item is displayed and documented, as it has been utilizzed in daily life for household, crafts and industrial uses.

There are more than 500 examples exhibited coming from 40 countries and representing 100 trades. You'll see hammers in bronze, stone, steel, suede, copper and even crystal. There is also a reproduction of the hammer used by Pople Paul VI during the holy year of 1975 to open the Holy Door for the jubilee. Hammers for agriculture, shoes, jewelry and other trades are displayed.

The museum is housed in the Palazzo Comunale, the former Franciscan monastery that dates to 1328.
