La Playa di Catania

The Playa di Catania beach is one of the closest and easiest to reach from the city, sign-posted and reached from the SS114 road. The street is also called Viale Kennedy, south of Catania. The long, golden sand stretch fronts to clean blue water, while the peak of Mt. Etna looms large in the distance. The bottom is gradual so it doesn't get deep immediately, so is favored by families with small children. There are some free areas administered by the city, and lots of concessions that rent umbrellas and sun beds, along with snack bars and restaurants. There are beach discos for night-time dancing.
