Grottaglie has a long history as a center of ceramic-making, so a trip to the museum dedicated to the craft is the perfect introduction to the town. Situated inside the history Castello Episcopio, which was once the regal residence of the archibishop of Taranto, the museum items are displayed in the space once occupied by the palace stables. It's a charmingly restored space.

There are 400 manufacturers spanning ten centuries represented. Objects from private and public collections that recount the history of the role of ceramics in daily life, its roles and artistry through the ages. The museum is divided into five sections: Traditional; Archeology; Maiolica style; contemporary ceramics; Nativity scenes.
