Every year the town of Sarnano recalls its medieval past with the historic re-enactment of the palio events that once pitted the districts against each other. A competition between Sarnano's ancient districts had evolved into an annual battle for bragging rights to the painted Palio. The tradition was revived in the 1960s with some adaptations for modernity.

Every August you can enjoy the crafts, foods, and games of the Middle Ages. There is an elaborate costumed parade that is a real sight to see. The medieval games include flag throwing, archery, pole climbing and more.

There are booths that demonstrate authentic crafts from that bygone era, street performers and plenty of food and wine!
