The symbol of Capo Palinuro is the Grotta Azzurra, the Blue Grotto, which like the famous one on Capri enjoys an ethereal blue color inside. The refracted light and intensity of the color is similar, but it’s less crowded.

Enchanting and magical it is 85 meters long and 90 meters wide. Located at the Cala Guarracini by Punta della Quaglia, at the northern part of the cape, it is the most spectacular of the many marine caves that dot this coast. The light dances and intensifies, and is best in mid- to late-afternoon. The refracted light that causes the phenomenon comes through an internal cavity. There are also hydro-thermal fonts and columns of alabaster-like stalactites. One playful calcium formation resembles a dolphin, while another looks like a shell. There are various boat excursions that will bring you to the grotto; for scuba enthusiasts you can join a tour that lets you immerse here.
