The prominent feature in this pretty city is the covered wooden bridge that spans the Brenta River. Built and rebuilt in various versions through the centuries beginning in 1209, the current structure dates to 1569 and it is said that the design was done by Veneto architect Andrea Palladio. It is known as the Ponte Vecchio, but in recent years has been called Ponte degli Alpini, because it was rebuilt after WWII by the Associazione Nazionale dei Alpini.

The wooden bridge has a pointed roof over its stone and tile-paved floor. An elegant stone archways opens to it, and its a favorite spot for a stroll. It is very scenic - the bridge itself and the mountain views from its "windows". There is a museum dedicated to the beloved bridge right at its entrance.
