Below the city and its castle, but before you reach the mile-long lungomare, there are some beaches tucked away that you might enjoy. They are on the city side of the man-made rock reef that stretches into the sea and can be reach on the narrow street called Via Kennedy. (There is a parking lot at the end of Via Testene and along Via Kennedy, but also is reachable by foot if you are staying in town.)

There are a couple of free and open beaches, and a few lidos - concessions with umbrella and sun bed rentals, services ,changing rooms, and snack bars.

Stone break walls help keep the water calm, and the city rises on the hill to the left, making it a nice backdrop. The beach is mostly sandy here -a fine gray sand- until you get closer to the town, where it becomes rocky.

If you opt for the free beaches, bring your own beach blankets and towels and an umbrella, or go to one of the lidos for a ready-made day with umbrella and services.

There are three lidos.

Mappatella Beach offers a bar, umbrellas and chairs or sun beds, showers, and a gazebo.

Lido Azzurro also provides umbrellas, chairs and sunbeds with perhaps a big more space between them, along with a bar and restaurant that serves seafood dishes as well as pizza.

Lido Oasi likewise provides the usual services and also has a waterfront restaurant serving pizza, seafood and steaks, and an upper deck bar for sunset drinks (or anytime lounging with a drink)

Directly below town and around the way (not on Via Kennedy but on Corso Arnaldo DIaz is the little known Lido Paradiso, with a small beach, an upper level sun deck, direct views towards the Amalfi Coast, pedal boats, and fun and games for the kids.
